  1. I used to be against any antler restrictions....Now if they happen I wouldn't be too upset I guess. I guess what I am saying is I am starting to see both sides of the argument...
  2. That looks really nice, I wish it was closer to me. If you don't mind me asking, what is the annual cost?
  3. Welcome to the forum.....Always interested in Hunting Clubs so I would love to hear about it...
  4. My Aunt and Uncle live on Lake Champlain not far from Burlington. It is beautiful and the fishing for an species of fish you would want to catch in a Northern Lake is great. I don't think the whitetail hunting is what it used to be but I don't know for sure. I used to be up there all the time when I was younger but very rarely talk to them now. Kinda sad really
  5. I was under the impression that NY got rid of the backtag rule a few years ago (I was wrong). That's what you get for listening to your hunting buddies instead of looking up the regs yourself. Only reason I found out was DEC ticketed a few of my hunting buddies one day. I wasn't there but I would have gotten a ticket too. Now I just put my Back tag on my back pack so it is with me no matter what coat I am wearing or what I have on for an outter layer. If they are going to bust my balls over that I guess I will take the ticket and like it...
  6. I go on lots of other sites.....Bowsite, Archerytalk, crossbow nation, dootalk just to name a few. I post on this one most often. It def happens on other sites. I don't understand why people get their panties in a wad over what someone they don't know says on the internet. I agree that its just immature but I just ignore them and never respond.
  7. Whenever I go to Walmart (as inoften as possible) I buy a bag full of matchbox/hotwheels and give one to my nephew every time I see him. Now whenever I see him he comes running and give me a big hug followed by...Uncle Chris...do you have anything for me?
  8. I wasn't talking about the ghost hunter shows. I was talking about the shows where the family basically tells their story like a documentary (just sitting in a chair recounting the story) while actors do a reenactment of the story. I will record ghost hunters sometimes and fastforward to the end to see their evidence and if they caught anything. I can't watch an hour of them walking around in the dark saying, did you hear that? What was that?
  9. Wow, I didn't know deer hunting went this late anywhere. Although I have never looked into either. That's a beautiful deer anytime of year in my book! Congrats and good luck with the doe!
  10. Does anybody watch any of the paranormal shows on the channel Destination America? I think they are called The Haunting and Paranormal Survivor. I have to say if any of those stories are true, it makes you rethink the world around you. I would be locked up with a straight jacket if I went through what some of those people on those shows have supposedly gone through. Really creepy...and not what you want to be thinking about while walking to your stand in the dark...
  11. I have to admit I am a closet bigfoot junky. My wife and daughter make fun of me for it. I have never seen anything that makes me believe it is real but I like the idea of it. That being said, that show is so ridiculous I don't know how people watch it. I was excited when it came on. I watch finding bigfoot (also ridiculous) but I like the stories that people tell when they go on an investigation. I was also very intrigued by survivor man bigfoot. I hope Les does more of those shows because they seemed very real although they had very little actual action. They were fact based and really made you wonder. I will admit that I watch any show I can find on television regarding bigfoot. Mountain monsters....no thank you....
  12. I was all in camo. It was bow season. I am sure the only thing it saw was my face or eyes like you said.
  13. I would say that wouldn't be ok. What would be ok is getting as many people together as possible and making a huge stink at every town meeting they have. Show them what they are doing doesn't make any sense.
  14. My buddy uses the "caulk gun" and ground venison. I don't care for it as much but maybe it is just the spices he uses and not the texture.
  15. Here is the recipe I used if anyone is interested. 1/2 cup brown sugar 1 tablespoon ground black pepper 1 tablespoon onion powder 1 tablespoon garlic salt 1 tablespoon lemon juice 3 tablespoons liquid smoke flavoring 1 teaspoon paprika 1 teaspoon hot pepper sauce 1/2 cup Worcestershire sauce 1/2 cup teriyaki sauce 1/3 cup soy sauce 1 pound venison, cut into 1/4 thick strips Add all ingredients to list Directions Prep 15 m Cook 4 h Ready In 1 d 4 h 15 m Whisk together the sugar, black pepper, onion powder, garlic salt, lemon juice, liquid smoke, paprika, hot pepper sauce, Worcestershire sauce, teriyaki sauce, and soy sauce in a large glass or ceramic bowl. Add the venison strips and toss to evenly coat. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and marinate in the refrigerator for 24 hours. Mix the venison a few times as it marinates to ensure even absorption of the marinade. Remove the venison strips from the marinade and squeeze off excess. Discard the remaining marinade. Arrange the venison on the racks of a food dehydrator so that it does not overlap. Dry the venison on High until dry but still pliable, about 4 hours. The jerky should bend without breaking. Store the jerky in an airtight container or in a resealable plastic bag.
  16. The recipe I used had all that, along with 1/2 cup of brown sugar, paprika, teriyaki and I think it was onion powder but I could be wrong.
  17. I have wanted to try and make Jerky for a long time. I am not at all a cook so I was scared to try. Well since I couldn't snowmobile this weekend and I wasn't doing anything I figured I would give it a shot. I borrowed a friends dehydrator and found a recipe for sweet and spicy jerky. I had my wife pick up what was need at the store. On Saturday I thawed 4 steaks out and cut them in as long of strips as possible about a 1/4 inch thick. I made the marinade and let them sit in it overnight. Yesterday I fired up the dehydrator and about 5 hours later I had some really good jerky. I was really impressed with how it came out. Anybody else have some good jerky recipes. Those 4 steaks worth aren't going to last very long. My daughter thought it was really good as well. My daughter asked if I could make BBQ jerky....
  18. I have not seen on of these in person but the idea is really cool to me. I enjoy all my hunting implements.
  19. I don't know what kind of hawk it was but a year ago deer season I got setup in the dark. Just as it was getting light enough to see shadows I had a hawk land in a tree about 30 feet from me at the same level I was at. It was from reading this forum that I learned he might come at me so it wasn't a complete surprise when he did. I threw my arms up in an x across my face and he peeled away at the last second. It scared me even though I was ready for it. If I hadn't read about that happening to people on here it would have never occurred to me that I could get attacked. Glad I read about it....
  20. Thank god the house and senate are of a R majority. Hopefully we can hold off and get a R president. Any of the people running R would pick a better justice than Obama will.....
  21. I am not good at telling age at all so I can't say age. I would take him if you get a chance though no matter the rack size. That is of course up to you as a hunter, tags are precious. He might make it this year but my guess is if makes it through this winter and next winter is like last winter he is going to become an easy meal for a hungry predator. You see him and you see how he is getting along. You are best to make to the call.
  22. Biz, that looks great and is just what I was thinking only a little bigger area. I will try the Private Bowstand and maybe I will get some of that throw and grow and try that as well and see what they like better. I am excited to try and see how it works out. If it doesn't, no harm no foul....
  23. Hey Grow, How long do I need before establishment? Where I hunt in 4K most of the leaves are on the trees 10/1....They fall pretty quickly after that though. If I was to plant 9/1 would a month not be enough?
  24. I am going to give it a shot. I figure it can't hurt. I sent an email to whitetail institute describing what I was looking for. They have a seed blend called private bow stand they said they developed just for this situation. I figure worst case scenario is I spend a day in the woods and it doesn't work. Best case scenario is it works great and I wonder why I didn't do it a long time ago. My plan is to try it maybe first week of Sept so it is hopefully established Oct. 1st
  25. Honestly much of that is still greek to me but I did learn something so thank you for posting that. I hunt with a .308 and use 165gr. So what you are saying is that yes you are using a 200gr bullet but that is not a big bullet for that round. Or are you saying yes I am using a 200gr bullet but that is the same as 165gr .308. I thought that a bullet grain was a bullet grain regardless of caliber. Sorry, am I saying that correct?
