Any one ever adjust Parallax in a non adjustable scope?
ApexerER replied to ApexerER's topic in General Hunting
Can anyone with an adjust parallax on the bell, tell me which way to turn the lens to lower the set parallax yardage. I read it is counter clockwise, I just want to be sure.... -
Any one ever adjust Parallax in a non adjustable scope?
ApexerER replied to ApexerER's topic in General Hunting
I have 3 of them and this one wasn't being used. I really liked the idea of a non cluttered reticle and with the HHA I can dial to any range I want. I did a lot of reading in the crossbow forum before I decided this. There are a lot of people that use this setup (although the go to scope seems to be Vortex for them) It isn't necessary for me to adjust the parallax but when I shoot at 20 yds I am having a hard time getting same hole accuracy this bow should be capable of....As I move out in range the 3/4 or so inch group does not expand ( maybe to an inch although I haven't shot past 40 yds) so I am thinking that maybe the parallax is effecting my accuracy at these close ranges....I would just like to rule it out. This is shooting off a Caldwell sled and my homemade bench.... -
I have never felt Parallax was an issue for me, so I have never purchased a parallax adjustable scope.... The Leupold 3x9-40 scope I put on my Scorpyd crossbow has a set parallax at 150 yds...I have noticed that the parallax is really bad at 20 yds. I sent an email to Leupold asking them if I could send the scope in and have the parallax readjusted. They got back to me and said that they are not doing any work on scopes at the moment and won't be until further notice. Their lab is being remodeled and they don't have a specific time frame of when it will be completed. So I googled adjusting parallax in a non adjustable scope and there were several videos and how too's….It sounds like if you remove the lock ring on the end of the bell you can refocus the parallax to any distance you want. It actually sound very simple....Has anyone done it? I would be sick if I ruined this scope...This also might be useful info to someone on here..... https://www.mcarbo.com/store/pg/33-adjusting-parallax-on-non-ao-scope.aspx

Thinking about building an AR 10
ApexerER replied to ApexerER's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Thanks guys, I think I am going to start reading more on this topic. I feel like I am not educated enough to make decisions at this moment. I will keep watching build threads and do some reading.... -

Thinking about building an AR 10
ApexerER replied to ApexerER's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Still thinking on the AR10. Maybe it is stupid but I have two other .308's and I really like the caliber. If I was to purchase an upper and a lower, I know this wouldn't technically be a build. Is there anything else I would need or do you just pin them together and you got your rifle? -

So Moog, could I get this upper and nothing else? Sorry for my ignorance and thanks for the help. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/861350531 -

I think he was saying an AR-10 is a harder platform to build. I am sure Moog knows a .308 is a perfectly good deer round... -

If I was able to find my AR15, would I be better off just getting a new upper for it in a different caliber? Would it require different magazines, buffer tube etc? I used to plink with my AR but I haven't seen it since the safe act and I don't hunt anything that the .223 is especially good for....I didn't build it, I just purchased it and it is completely stock Stag Arms.... -
If you are worried about warmth, I would go with the bigger size. If you aren't worried about cold feet because they are only going to be used for hiking, I would go with what fits the best and your foot won't slide around in. Generally your feet don't get cold walking...at least mine don't...

With all the builds going on it has got me thinking about trying my own. I am interested in building a NY compliant AR10. I am not really even sure where to start, where to look, how much to expect it to cost etc. I have been looking at parts on Gunbroker but I have no idea what is considered good and what is crap. I would be looking for MOA accuracy at 100 yds and its primary purpose would be a backup or maybe become my main deer rifle. I really like the .308 caliber. I would also consider 300 blackout, 450 Bushmaster or 458 Socom if that would be something I should consider. I know almost nothing about what direction to go so please excuse my ignorance. Other than I would like to shoot a bullet that will be a decent deer cartridge and I don't believe the .223 is that....

Copied and pasted out of the 2016 Gun Harvest thread.... Well...what a day...I am still on cloud 9..Got in my stand early. About 5:45. Heard the first shot at roughly 6:15..I can't imagine how they were shooting because I can't see squat. One of my Hunting buddies is across the ravine from me about 300 yds away. It doesn't take him long to text me that he saw 2 doe. Not long after sunrise two guys on the lease had deer down. A beautiful 6 with nubs for browtines and a nice 8 Pt. I see movement to the right behind me and get excited...then quickly realized they were turkey and watched 8 Longbeards slowly work through. At 8:34 am I text my buddy telling him I swore I heard a deer grunt. I can't hear or see anything. Just as I decide it must have been my imagination a doe rips in at full speed and stops 10 feet in front of me panting. I am scanning where she came from and catch movement. I shoulder my rifle...see a nice rack..settle the cross hair and tell myself to squeeze the trigger. The deer disappears and I don't see it. I am shaking like a leaf...see the deer again look...wait..it's another doe..another deer another doe..Bring the gun down and scan..see another deer at least 30 yds from where I first shot..shoulder the rifle..it's him...shaking like a leaf I try to settle myself down and breath..settle my crosshair..tell myself to squeeze the trigger..bang...shot two..the deer doesn't even flinch..again..shot 3..just behind the shoulder..the deer doesn't move...this is crazy...again time again...shot 4...the deer drops right where he is standing..but he is getting back up...shot 5...my gun is empty...I attach my rifle to my pull up rope and practically throw it out of the stand..down the ladder like a fireman pole..grab the rifle..throw 5 more rounds in the rifle...I can't see the deer from the ground. I head slowly toward the deer when blow blow blow...all the doe..I believe there were 6 book out of there. I close the distance and can see the deer trying to get up..I shoulder the rifle again..shot 6..I know I missed on this shot. I get up to the deer and I decide I am going to put him down when he expires...then I see just how big he is and I start shaking so bad I have to get down on one knee. I quickly thank God (even though I am not very religious) Then tears just stream down my face. I am overcome with emotion..I gather myself enough to see i hit him behind the shoulder 3 times and once was a spine shot. I look at my phone and my buddy sent like 10 texts along with other guys on the lease. My buddies texts from across the ravine were funny....what did you kill? Wtf? What are you doing? How can you miss that many times? What is it? Was it big? So I text him and a few other guys that I have a giant 9 down and just sit and take it all in while I wait for the two guys that already have their deer down and my buddy on the opposite ridge...lots of high fives and hugs...I still can't believe it...a deer of a lifetime...I am extremely disappointed with the Hornady ballistic tips I picked up..three shots through the lungs...three tiny entry holes and three just as tiny exits. Definitely going back to the fusion I was shooting...

Thanks, it shoots great at 20 yds. I can't shoot much farther in my yard and only when my wife isn't home. Haven't tried it yet but I made a quick shooting bench out of a foldable saw horse and a piece of plywood I had. I think it's going to work great and folds up to nothing.

Dicks closing hunting departments And pun intended
ApexerER replied to turkeyfeathers's topic in General Chit Chat
I live in Saratoga so Dicks in Wilton is a very short drive. It really sucks that I don't feel I can shop there. I have been getting my ammo at Zacks in Round Lake, I have picked up a few hunting items at Tractor Supply but I have been to Runnings several times now. It is probably a good thing Runnings is a 35-40 minute drive because I could go broke in that store..... I am not a CEO but I would think Dicks best option would be to expand their hunting and fishing section. All of their clothes, sneakers etc can be purchased online. You can purchase hunting supplies and even guns online if you have shipped to an FFL. I don't know about everyone else but I like to browse the hunting stuff. Feel the different things, Look through scopes, shoulder the firearms or handle the pistol. Half the hunting crap I own I wouldn't have if I wasn't browsing and just thought I needed that particular item on that particular day. Even fishing lurers. How many have grabbed a fishing lure they don't need because they were browsing and thought this one or that one looked good. I never go browse for a sweatshirt. If I am shopping for clothes I am already annoyed about it and I just get what I need and get the heck out....Now hunting clothes....that's different.... -
My buddy did add a leaf and airbags for his car trailer in his last truck. His new truck he just did add a leaf and said he wouldn't mess with the air bags again....

I would shoot either and be very happy. They look great!
