  1. Sorry you didn't bring that buck home Joe. I have heard that after about age 40 our eyes start to deteriorate.I know mine have.Scopes are great as long as they stay tight and are high quality. Red dots are nice and quick to get on target , no magnification on some.If you go with fiber optics make sure of the quality as well, I broke my front sight fiber last year while hunting but was still able to look through the empty hole and shoot a doe.I'm sure you will figure it out.Look on the bright side, you had a more entertaining day than a lot of us and you might still get that buck.Good luck !
  2. I did think about that happening, I was hoping the fox, coyotes, hawks etc. would keep the chipmunks controlled at the nature area I was releasing them.
  3. A few of my observations recently : I have been deer hunting in unit 8n, I have only seen 2 deer (running) out of 5 trips.I did have a coyote walking about 20 yds from me one morning. On cty rt 37 last weekend I noticed several apple trees with many uneaten apples on the ground and tree.Driving home on rt 65 in unit 8h I saw a doe feeding in a field at aprox 12:30 in the afternoon.(no pressure ?).Last night I was traveling in the village of Brockport when a young doe ran across the road, another was waiting to cross.I do not know what hunting is allowed in that area.I see plenty of deer in populated areas including my residential neighborhood, and not so many in "the sticks".Also I have never found any indication of malnourished or starved deer. Usually the deer I have taken have fat reserves on them.
  4. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. It's December and there were worms crawling across my driveway in the rain the other day.I don't mind my heat not coming on as much but I would like to hunt in a couple of inches of snow.
  5. Glad your feeling better G-man good luck with the late season.
  6. Geez I'm feeling very upper class reading this.
  7. Nice doe jimbodwb, I almost forgot what they look like.
  8. I saw that too and it has my support 100 %.
  9. This has been an enlightening thread for me.I learned some interesting facts. I appreciate everyone's opinion on this topic. I have to admit my opinion on these tree condos has changed somewhat. I understand that many people might benefit from one of these structures . Still not for me and I am in no way envious of having one but I am glad that almost everyone on this thread gave opinions without trying to change others beliefs.
  10. Toilet paper.I wouldn't wan't to be without my cell phone in case of emergency.
  11. Good question.I always thought it was illegal, however I can't find that it is.
  12. Now stop that, remember it's the season to be jolly !
  13. Maybe it is the part about having closed windows that bothers me the most. Without the glass windows it is more like a stand I guess.
  14. The season is long to some but it seems to go fast if weekends are your only time to hunt.
  15. http://www.democratandchronicle.com/article/20111204/SPORTS0103/112040357 The above story ran in the local paper yesterday.I am interested in reading your opinions on hunting from heated enclosed structures.I am not trying to bash other hunters or whine. Here is my opinion : I don't feel that able bodied individuals should be allowed to hunt from these mini camps on legs.I am not talking about anyone with a physical disability.Sitting in these heated structures watching television, cooking etc. and then opening a window to shoot at deer is not hunting. It is preying on deer but not hunting.I realize this is legal but why is this any different than shooting a deer from the window of a camp or even a parked vehicle ? Again I am not talking about disabled or elderly people using these I am talking about ANY hunter building these.I have my opinion, what is yours ?
  16. I respect you for trying to relay your feelings and beliefs to your friend like an adult. Now it is his turn to discuss or accept your message like an adult.Too many people these days cannot do this.I once told a friend that his shotgun muzzle was pointing at me as he was holding the gun.His snotty answer was that the safety was on. Don't hunt with him anymore.
  17. Wow my mouth started watering looking at that picture.
  18. Went out this morning on state land in 8n. Met my cousin. There were 7 other hunters there. No shots near us and no one saw anything. I walked at least a mile in . Not even a tail.I have had a lousy gun season seeing deer.
