Congratulations! Fencing is a very demanding art.

Other than the mice that occasionally take up residence in my tractor and mower I don't have any complaints with the wildlife around me.

Welcome to HNY! And welcome back to NY.

The bubbles were great! Never thought of that before. I like the quick-adjust tripod as well. Anyone familiar with that?

You're absolutely correct grampy. Silver is also the one who worked to put a stop to the "moreland commission" last spring. No surprise there really, as it turned out Silver was one of the primary targets. So far Albany Dems appear to be standing behind him though. http://www.newsmax.com/US/sheldon-silver-arrested-bribery/2015/01/22/id/620151/ It's bad enough that these people do this kind of thing, but that they have the arrogance to think that they'll get away with it and that we commoners won't notice or care is just an astounding level of moral corruption IMO.

The Pope went on vacation for a few days to visit the rugged mountains of Alaska. He was cruising along the campground in the 'Popemobile' when he heard a frantic commotion just at the edge of the woods. He found a helpless Democrat wearing shorts, sandals, a Vote for Obama hat and a Save the Trees shirt. The man was screaming and struggling frantically, thrashing all about and trying to free himself from the grasp of a 10-foot grizzly bear. As the Pope watched in horror, a group of Republican loggers wearing Go Sarah shirts came racing up. One quickly fired a .44 magnum slug right into the bear's chest. The two other men pulled the semiconscious Democrat from the bear's grasp. Then using baseball bats, the three loggers finished off the bear. Two of the men dragged the dead grizzly onto the bed of their pickup truck while the other tenderly placed the injured Democrat in the back seat. As they began to leave, the Pope summoned all of them over to him. "I give you my blessing for your brave actions!" he proudly proclaimed. "I have heard there was bitter hatred between Republican loggers and Democratic environmental activists, but now I've seen with my own eyes that this is not true." As the Pope drove off, one logger asked his buddies, "Who the #### was that guy ?" "Dude, that was the Pope," another replied. "He's in direct contact with Heaven and has access to all kinds of wisdom." "Well," the logger said, "he may have a lot of wisdom, but he doesn't know #### about bear hunting! By the way, is our bait still alive or do we need to go back to California and get another one...?"

Looking to get a shotgun barrel rifled.
philoshop replied to thunnus's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Rifling a standard shotgun barrel isn't going to happen. Way too much stress on a thin tube to even attempt it. A good 'smith could possibly put a rifled choke collar on the end, which can be reasonably accurate in some situations. You'll be way ahead in both $ and performance with a purpose-built slug barrel either way. -
From the trigger forward it looks like a gun, but from there back it looks like a poorly assembled DIY plumbing project.

Background Checks?
philoshop replied to Mr VJP's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
The US Constitution is nothing more than a nuisance to the current regime, and it's being upheld only by the slimmest of margins in the Supreme Court. -
A good start to the day is when I put my socks and shoes on, in that order. Thanks Doc!

If they stopped all Buck hunting.
philoshop replied to Four Season Whitetail's's topic in Deer Hunting
I've pretty much always hunted the does anyways, whether I'm actually looking to take a doe or not. This is especially true during the rut. So the only difference for me would be to take the doe rather than wait for the buck that's following her. -
"I am Charlie". The second part is "I will not submit".

Their very first survival instinct is to freeze, especially at close range. Deer in the headlights. It's what momma taught them to do the day they were born.

Could be...? A careful visual inspection would tell that tale. Like Wildcat said earlier, it might just be the fairly weak factory offerings in that caliber. The battle stuff was actually pretty potent by comparison. Manufacturers have to build ammo to the lowest common denominator in this case. Have fun and keep us posted.
-
A headspace issue in this case probably wouldn't be caused by the barrel/receiver, but it certainly could be caused by a bolt that was manufactured in a different batch from the rest of the gun. Those things were being cranked out in huge numbers and the specs among different batches weren't always entirely compatible with each other. The deformation at the case mouth could be as simple as corrosion/rust that ate away at the chamber and was cleaned out years later by someone looking to sell the gun. A few simple tests will probably determine what's wrong. Sounds like a nice winter project.
-
Could be a number of things, not the least of which might be that it was a factory reject that made it to the battlefield and hence became the property of a GI looking for a souvenir. Do you want to shoot it again?
-
Duly noted Wildcat, and you're absolutely correct here. I was more concerned about the possibility that an older war rifle was brought back in pieces and somehow ended up with a bolt that was out of spec for the receiver/barrel combination. A go/nogo will tell you if the chamber is too short but it won't necessarily tell you if the bolt face is too far from the breech.
