  1. It could be more about the ammo than the gun...? Was it old military stuff by any chance?
  2. My Mauser experience is limited to one gun that was custom built around the action from a 98, so I don't have any insight here. May I ask who told you there might be headspace issues?
  3. Size the case to the headspace you want, then trim the mouth of the case to the overall case length you want. Install the primer you want and the powder you want in the amount that you want. Seat the bullet to where you want it in relation to the rifling of the barrel. And lastly: Hope that you can shoot as well as you want. Numerous steps have been left out here, obviously. I know exactly what I want in a handload, whether its for hunting or BR, (many years ago). When someone suggests an easier or better way for me to get what I want I'm all ears. If it doesn't work for me I'm still happy to have it in my head(space) for future reference. Thanks for article Lawdwaz.
  4. No problem. Enjoy the ten-tweaky-two, just be careful around the after-market parts catalogs, they'll drain your wallet in a hurry. The only Ruger part on mine is the receiver.
  5. Can curls for me. Bottles are just too heavy. HeHeHe. I really do admire your spirit, and wish you all the best! No changes here, just extensive stretching in the AM so that I can actually move. And then just keep moving all day until I get to the can-curls in the evening. Rinse and repeat.
  6. It can be done, but it involves installing an aftermarket trigger assembly that is even worse than the factory trigger IMO. FWIW dry-firing the 10/22 won't hurt it at all if that's what you're worried about.
  7. Big, huge, enormous congrats all around to those who have quit by whatever means!! And a heartfelt thanks to everyone here for the support!
  8. Happy 6 month vaperversary to you! My calendar ticked over to 6 months smoke-free today.
  9. I'm ready for it, but I know I'm not gonna like it.
  10. Very scary indeed! A fair number of people on this planet consider gun ownership itself to be a 'mental disorder/disease'. Some of them are undoubtedly health care professionals.
  11. I'm looking forward to seeing more from you! Keep at it my friend.
  12. I don't mind doing the work (a little at a time ) but the cost of traveling to haul the stuff can add up pretty quickly. I like not having another bill in the mail every month, though.
  13. I heat 100% with a wood stove in my 800 sq ft house using wood that I cut and process myself. I enjoy most every part of it, from the harvesting and stocking up throughout the summer to the daily ritual of burning during the winter. And nothing beats a cranking wood stove to warm the old bones after spending a cold day outdoors. For the most part, I just enjoy the independence of it. If I had to buy the wood or travel anything more than a few miles to get it maybe things would be different because of the costs involved. Then again, maybe not. It's hard to put a price tag on the independence part of the equation. As a side note: anyone looking to purchase a wood burning appliance should do so in the very near future. Prices will skyrocket if/when the new EPA regulations take effect.
  14. In the arena of politics a well-funded group of zealots will beat basic human reasoning every time.
  15. The background check fee is $10, The cost of the paperwork to do the transfer is up to the FFL. 20 bucks or so is not unreasonable considering the hassle. Wait 'til it kicks in for ammo sales.
  16. Lots of them on ebay in the $40 to $50 range last time I checked. Another option for about 100 bucks would be boydsgunstocks. Remember though that thumbhole stocks are illegal on semi-autos with detachable mags in NewYorkistan, so you'll have to go with a more traditional stock.
  17. That's a fun and successful afternoon!! Congrats, and enjoy!
  18. I might try that with a steak in the crockpot. A little broth and some veggies underneath?
  19. About 100 or so 'keepers'. A lot of those 10k shots were experimenting with the different settings though, shooting at nothing in particular.
  20. Congrats on the purchase! Today's digital cams (DSLR's) are truly amazing. You can essentially practice for free once you get past the initial investment, and practice is a huge part of any photography. I'm only about 6 months into the DSLR world myself, but the 10,000 or so frames I've shot in that time would never have been shot with film, entirely due to cost. I think I'm getting better with my gear, but I still suck at the wildlife stuff. Since it doesn't cost me anything but time, I'll keep practicing. Everything I've missed has been mostly my fault. Have fun! Looking forward to seeing some of your shots!
  21. I would have been 11 (and a half ) and I lived for those magazines. Nice memories.
  22. The link at the bottom of his post stoneam2006. Quite the portfolio for sure!
