Since we're doing pics...

One of my favorite marinades is "zesty' Italian salad dressing. The cheap stuff works just fine. A little worcestershire sauce will give it some tang if you want, or a little catsup will sweeten it. It's just really simple and tastes great.

Best wishes to you! And best of luck for the remainder of the season.

If he's young and new to the area it's entirely possible that it's the only part of the woods where he's comfortable enough to roam around. Not trying to be a smart azz here. It is possible.

That would cause massive unemployment among the lawyers and politicians in this country. Not a bad idea.

I believe the thumbhole stocks are no longer legal on the 10/22 because of SAFE. Apparently it turns the plinker into an 'assault' rifle. Lots of used factory stocks on ebay though. If you want new, Boyds has some really nice stuff at a good price.

T/C Contender with a 10" .44 mag barrel made by J.D.Jones, and a 2x Leupold scope.

Anyone following this Ferguson stuff going on?
philoshop replied to burmjohn's topic in General Chit Chat
When the 'top cop' in this country, AG Holder, is one of the guys fanning the flames trying his best to make things worse, it makes it extremely difficult for everyone. Especially so for the rest of the LE community. -

Another plan for gun confiscation in NY
philoshop replied to Mr VJP's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
The anti-gun zealots would like to see the government take all guns from the citizens, and so far the government is going along with this by making up laws that will make it easier for them to confiscate. -
A lot of things I miss about Buffalo, but lake effect ain't one of them.
-
Best of luck to you, and thank you for your service.

That's what it's really all about. Congratulations to you both, and wishing you many happy seasons in the future.

Make it noon on a Wednesday!

You're not alone. The corn that's still standing is giving lots of people fits. OTOH it's been fairly dry, so you might want to check out the water sources that are being used. If you can find one between bedding and feeding areas it might be worth a sit.
-
Overall I think it's a good thing. I do miss the 'ritual' of the weekend prior to the Monday opener though.

If it was easy it would be called shopping. Thank you for being mindful of the situation as it developed.

The shooter actually missed the deer in the cart, and hit the guy pulling/pushing the cart...? That speaks volumes. As to a mandatory orange rule, if people like this can be somehow trained to not shoot at orange I'll start working on a trail cam rig that squirts orange paint on the deer I want to take.
-
Agree with all of the above. Remember this the next time you're field dressing a deer as well. I usually end up stripped down to my t-shirt for the job, but I'll put the orange vest back on if I'm alone, and hang the hat, hankies and any other orange I have with me from nearby tree branches. Having someone shoot towards me is bad enough. Having someone shoot at me would probably make me want to shoot back.

Congratulations on a job well done! FWIW I'd take a close look at the firing pin. Too much oil and cold temps can seize it up like you wouldn't believe.
-
Lots of fat on them again this year. Rifle sized holes can close up before any blood is even shed. Best of luck with your search Grow.

For the ride home after the hunt I often listen to Warren Zevon's "poor, pitiful me". Guess I should find a pre-hunt song.

I'd go back to that last bed site and do a box-pattern search. By your description of that bed I think there's a dead deer within a hundred yards or so. They can and will cover a lot of ground running on empty, but once they lay down they'll stop running. That's why you wait before trailing.
