  1. The first step is to thoroughly clean all the old grime and grit off both the outside and inside of the bolt. If you're not comfortable disassembling the bolt just put it in a bath of automotive parts cleaner for a couple of days and swish it around frequently without disturbing the sediment on the bottom of the pan. Let it dry completely and then add a light coating of any good gun lube. Make sure there is no scalling or scratches on the camming surfaces of either the bolt or the receiver as well. A very light polishing may be necessary on those areas. Best of luck. ETA: The only time I use WD40 on a gun is maybe to remove light exterior surface rust with very fine steel wool. It's not a firearm product IMO.
  2. You said the rings are sliding in what I assume is a simple dovetail groove, rather than the scope sliding in the rings. A competent gunsmith can put a few drops of silver solder in that dovetail groove to keep the rings from sliding forward under recoil. An even more 'permanent' solution would be to silver solder the rings directly to the dovetail groove. Not something I'd recommend on a fine rifle, of course, but it's an option.
  3. I never became a certified arborist, but I was trained by people certified in the trade/profession. There's a bit of a rush being in a canopy with a bunch of rope and a chainsaw. Arborists are not killed while cutting from ladders for one simple reason. They just don't do it. Homeowners are killed all the time cutting from ladders because they don't know any better.
  4. A guy is annoyed by a low-hanging tree branch in his yard that impedes his mowing regimen. He goes to the local big-box store and buys a chainsaw and a ladder, two things that should never, ever be mixed together, BTW. His expectation is that the limb will fall to the ground where he can cut it into manageable pieces. The falling branch sweeps the ladder out from under him and he breaks his neck in the ensuing fall. The company that made the ladder is not at fault for the stupidity, and neither is the company that made the chainsaw.
  5. It began as a year-long preemptive strike against a Trump presidency, and it's morphed into a flat-out coup attempt.
  6. It's my dear old Mom and Dad's 60th anniversary, so the family and I are taking them out to dinner.
  7. Writer Mark Steyn summed it up quite well: "Common sense presupposes a common world view." An increasing number of people, especially younger people, have the view that the world owes them something and that they're simply not responsible for unfortunate outcomes. It's the expectation of 'equality of outcome' rather than 'equality of opportunity'.
  8. We're never "stuck" with anything until we stop voting.
  9. I'm generally intolerant of any sort of willful incompetence. Whether it's a clerk in a store, a waiter in a restaurant, or a driver on the road. If you let stupid people get to you you're not likely to be happy in life, especially in this day and age.
  10. I'll second Doc's nod to Fur, Fish, and Game. They published things like 'expected market prices' by area and updated throughout the trapping season to actual prices. I heavily relied on them when making decisions regarding trap and stretcher purchases when I was 13 or 14 YO. In many ways I knew more about 'market economics' 45 years ago than I do now. :-)
  11. And I understand that everyone stood for the anthem. I think that's a good thing.
  12. I don't really care about the outcome, but I'm happy for the Philly fans. An underdog team with a second string quarterback wins their first ever SB! And a SB with over 70 points scored? I might have to find a youtube replay of the game just for fun.
  13. The whole problem was easily solved when I took my TV to the curb 15 years ago. It's just not something I think about. Then again, I didn't watch TV when I was a kid either. Except occasionally on Sunday nights. ;-) I'll make an argument FOR having the SB on Saturday: There won't be an estimated 30 million people calling in sick on the following Monday. I know it's only one day out of the year, but it's hard to get things done when a quarter of the Nation's work force doesn't show up. JMO
  14. The reason the SB was aired on Sunday night is that 50 years ago people weren't glued to their TV's on a Saturday night. The younger folks were out 'cruising' with their friends, the couples went dancing, the families had dinners and house parties, etc. Sunday night was the captive audience for TV back then. Every big show from Ed Sullivan to Disney to 60 Minutes to Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom was aired on Sunday night. Why the NFL hasn't changed it is anybody's guess.
  15. It was never intended to be a career choice
  16. This country is not less safe today because there are more guns. The country is less safe because there are more stupid and often immoral people walking the streets who are willing to commit criminal acts.
  17. Criminals will always be able to get guns, whether it's through a gun show or out of the trunk of a car on the street. Additional laws restrict no one except law-abiding citizens.
  18. Keep the memories in your heart, Greg. My condolences.
  19. Thoughts and prayers to to you, your son, and your family Eddie. All the best going forward!
  20. Short answer on Nasty Pelosi: Botox injections in the face eventually leach into the brain. It doesn't help when you start out being a Socialist Democrat. Trump's speech: He hit it outta the park, again!!!
  21. I neither indicated nor suggested that my speech was "non-peaceful". In one case I was trying to rally people to join in a local 'Walk For Life' event to benefit cancer patients and survivors. I was told by the police that I needed permission (a permit) from the local government to do that. You made a very bold assumption about me. You were wrong.
  22. I don't understand why I should have to ask for permission to exercise a Constitutional Right. It's not just the second amendment either. If I want to speak in the public square I'm now required to get permission to do so.
  23. Look at the best you can afford, then buy the next step up from that. It's one of those 'buy once, cry once' purchases that you won't regret. The tripod I still use was kind of a 'cheapo' at the time, but 45 years ago even 'cheapo' was pretty darn good.
