Search for buffalo shrimp on Allrecipes.com and substitute chicken breast strips for the shrimp. You’ll love it!

Get the large jug of peanut oil from Home Depot. My favorite is boneless buffalo wings in the fryer, extra hot with plenty of blue cheese!

It depends on the area. Some areas here on the island where the herd is very stressed, I have seen them drop by early January. I think by the end of February, the majority have dropped, yet some will still hold until April. I believe that nutrition and stress are 2 main factors, but that’s just my opinion.

Thanks. I’ve been itching to scope out my spot for a while, but I didn’t want to go to soon and push the bucks out of it. Thankfully with the use of my cell cam, I was able to keep a close eye on who was still holding on. The matched set was on the ground for less than 36 hours and still had some blood on the bases. It was by far my best day and I have to give a lot of credit to my buddy who came with me. He really has a sharp eye. I’ll be heading out again next weekend to hit some surrounding areas close by. I still want to find the sheds of one in particular, and I think that I know where they may be. It also appears that most, if not all have dropped in the past week in my area.

A few pics of my Weimaraner from over the years.

I'll get this thread back on track. I went out with a buddy to walk a spot where I have my cam set up. I had a pic of my #1 that dropped last week. I didn't find his sheds. But my buddy did find the sheds of a wide 8 that I had pics of from yesterday morning and he was still holding. He must've just dropped. They where laying on top of one another. We also found one side of a larger 8 and one side of a 3 point. I have pics of both deer from during the season. Also found was a a shed from the previous year. Not a bad day for only being out for 90 minutes.

I think my number 1 finally dropped. Got a pic this morning of a shed buck. I think it's him. I'll be heading out this weekend looking.

So I assume that you hunted public land with the gun? Do you hunt with the bow as well? There are plenty of great places to hunt on the island with the bow.
-
Where about on the island do you hunt? Ever been out on the North Fork?
-
There are a lot of places to hunt on the island. Some are great and some are not. Private land will really improve your odds.

I know you were quoting Lawdwaz, but I'd figure I'd comment on my experience. I had the single handle on mine, with no real issues. When I purchased mine, the guy told me that he was going to double up the weatherstripping on the bed. He said it would help it seal better. He was right. I never had any leaks.

I had an ARE on my full size Dodge for 15 years. No complaints here. I did get the fold down window so that I could clean the rear window occasionally.
-
My number 1 is still packing.
-
Yes they can. And I believe that the Boy Scouts obtain a large number of them and auction them off to raise money.

He’s a lucky guy.

Still sparring here as well. Most are still holding. Only got pics of 2 different spikes that dropped one side each so far.

There are many good shops here on the island, but I can't recommend anyone that's going to give you 90 minutes of undivided attention. I would look into joining a 3D shooting group like http://suffolkarchers.com/ once you purchase a bow. I've never shot there, but I've good things about it. And I'm sure that there are some passionate shooters that would be willing to share info and experiences with you. You can shoot 3D targets at various ranges rather than the same 20yd shots at a piece of paper.

Every buck in my area is still holding. And these 2 decided to square off this morning.
-
This buck was taken last night by a friend of a friend. Still plenty of big ones still holding.

My target buck was the 9 with the split g2 in the last 2 pics. I passed on the wide 8 at one point. Hopefully I can still hunt there next year. The new landowner has plans to build there. There are also other tree stands nearby, so hopefully I can get it done in the early season.

I got out one more time tonight with the gun for the last sit of the year. I sat until almost sunset and had several does come out, but I've been waiting for a certain 9 point. He never showed. I ended up taking a quick walk into the thicket hoping to push him out. To my surprise I came across a fresh rub. I heard some deer get up so I exited and circled around. I spotted a nontypical 8 that I've gotten pics of with a couple of does at about 140 yards away along the vineyard. It was too far of a shot, so I let him go. I checked my watch and it was game over. I've never hunted this hard in January, and had so many close encounters. So even though I didn't get it done for the late season with a mature buck, I'm still grateful for the chances I've had and I look forward to crossing paths with these bucks next year, when they'll be bigger and wiser. Now I just have to wait for them to start dropping so I can start shed hunting.

I came across this rub tonight. It snowed here yesterday morning. So it was torn up sometime in the last 24 hours. They are still holding here. I also have some pics from last week and it appears that there was a hot doe in the area.

I was thinking of hunting all day today. NE winds with temps dropping and snow in the forecast. I couldn't take it. As soon as I got off work, I grabbed my gun and sat for the last 45 minutes of light. Thank god I can still get my fix and we have a 4 month long season down here. Lol. It's not going to be so easy after Wednesday though...

I started a new 2018 thread. You can sleep well now Biz!

Figured I’d start a new one up. My first find of the year. Technically not a shed, but a dead head. Most of the bucks around here are still holding.
