  1. New York State passed legislation that will prohibit the sale of certain lead sinkers. Beginning in May 2004, the sale of lead fishing sinkers (including "split shot") weighing one-half ounce or less will not be permitted.
  2. My father keeps a journal of who hunted on our property, when where on the property, what they saw, what they killed, where it was killed, weapon used, what day it was and the weather and time of day of sighting or kill. He has done this sense he started hunting, alot of info there. At the end of every year he writes down a tally of how many and what each hunter got. We were just going through some old books last week. They use to be a good source of info as to where and when was the best times to get deer. Not so much the last ten years or so as the deer pop has gone way down over the years. Any how I started bow hunting when I was 14 and gave it up when I was 22. That was 9 seasons with a bow and I killed 8 bucks and one doe with bow in that time. Started hunting with gun when was 16 and still going. That is 29 seasons with a gun. That is 29 Bucks and 84 doe during that time frame. That makes 37 bucks and 85 doe for a total of 122. Hope to make that 125 or 127 this season. I would have just as much of a good time if that number was 0. I do not like the thought of buying a tag and not getting meat in the freezer but i love being in the woods. The number of deer I have seen and just watched is way up there. I like filling the freezer but at times have just as much of a good time just watching. That is getting harder to do with lower deer numbers in my area if I pass on a good deer I might not see another all season and eating a tag and not meat is not acceptable. That is like going to the butcher paying him for steaks and then leaving them there. I pay for tag to get meat I can sit in woods and watch for free.

I also do not have a problem with baiting as long as it is legal and I do not complain about baiting products being sold in stores as I do not have proof as to where it is being used once it leaves the store. We all have a good idea yet unless we fallow the buyer and see them useing it in NY who knows for sure. Big deal it is on the shelf in the store,if you do not have a use for it then do not buy it.Why complain about it being sold. Personally I have better things to do with my time then complain about things like that. I do not have a use for Dodge trucks but I do not complain everytime I see a Junk dealership. Comparing baiting deer with putting a worm on a hook to catch fish is stupid. That is like people saying there are size limits for fish and we should have size limits for deer ( AR ). You will not get fish without somekind of bait on your hook you can get deer without bait however. Yet we all still use bait for deer in one form or another,A farmers field, apple trees, water source or just that mast crops in the woods.
  4. It still hot out for me. I like it between 0 and 35. Been known to walk around in 20 degree weather in just a sweatshirt. Nice that the temps are dropping though hope they keep going. I do not like hunting when temps are above 30 and prefer a little lower. That doesn't mean I do not hunt still, just do not like it as much, however anytime in the woods is good time.
  5. Just double checked all my tax maps. Only thing on them is water ways and roadways no rock piles fences or surveyors stakes. If you go to county office and get the tax map and say it is for finding your property lines they will tell you that it is no good for that. They will not help much if they are not at property line also you do not know for sure where onthat the line is. The line on map could be on the roadway yet the actually line is yards one side or the other. That would throw your posted signs way off. Also the tax map might show the roadway as being yours when in fact it is your neighbors. Maybe this is the real problem you have posted where you think you own yet the people you call trespassers actually own it. This is where a surveyors map and properly posted signs help greatly. A surveyors map is the only right way to know property boundaries and that is not something someone who does not lease or own the land can get. Without posted signs the non landowner has noway of knowing the true lines and from the sounds of it they still wont if you are posting useing a tax map. I love when guys pull out the tax map to show me they are not on my land just to be proved wrong by the surveyors map and the look on there face when the see they are a hundred yards or more over the line. As for the neighbor thing it wont matter if they are weekenders or full timers if you shoot a big wall hanger and it gets on them and they tell you to stayy off then go get it for themselves.
  6. OMG First That isn't a good attitude to start with right out of the gate when you first obtain a piece of property. Why make enemies of your neighbors before you know who they are or what kind of people they are. You might need them at some point. Might cause them to not let you go get that big buck you shot and it ran onto them. I am not saying let them hunt on yours but less attitude helps a lot. Second it's not to smart to use tax maps to post your property They are for tax purposes only and in no way show you where actual boundaries are. tax maps have straight lines property boundaries are far from straight. Tax maps do not show if the lines run at angles either. You could be posting on another persons land. That would realy cause problems.
  7. New york hillbilly I never said there were no consequences I just never went into detail because I was just stateing the point that know your property line and marking it helps. Not only others but yourself as well. Those tresspassers are part of a hunting club and they do get arrested however that only works for that one person as the next time it is a different on thinking he wont be kicked off what he feels is his. I have fixed the problem by buying a piece of land they claimed was theirs. I did some research and found it to be owned by an old man who doesn't hunt and has no need for it. I then blocked the roadway that went through it that was the only access they had for getting vehicals to there cabin. They had no right of way as they said they owned the land. They can walk onto there property through a larg deep swamp they own that borders the road. Well they can swim or boat as it is very deep . They are not happy and have tried the courts to help them only to lose. Guess they should have stayed home. Also Steve B you are not listing private info to the public> All one has to do is got to the county wbe site look up tax maps and they can find name of owner, How many acres, there phone number, address, who they bought it from, how much they paid, how much it is worth, and what they pay in taxes on it. That is all public info. The exact property lines are not only a land owner or lease can get them and it is your responsable to let others know what and where you own. How are they suppose to know if it is not public knowledge
  8. Here's a better idea mark your property lines so people know they are on yours and not where they have permision. Most of the time it has nothing to do with wanting to be on what someone else owns. A little over 400 acres and I can take you to every corner marker and walk every line and be dead on without guessing and without marking it before hand, yet we have every border marked as do the neighbors. There is one neighbor who is from the city and owns 84 acres and every year when they come out we have a problem. Why? Because they think they own more then they do and we have to get out the maps and prove them wrong every time. My point is that most people who own more then a couple acres do not know exactly where there line is so how would someone else know. As for locals, yes there are those that feel they have been there all there lives and they are staying I think everyone has that problem even those of us who do live on or near our property. However the locals probably know the property lines better then you do so do not be so quick in saying they are tresspassing. Posting our property took just a little time when out walking and scouting so why not do it if it cuts down on problems
  9. No I don't put out bait I also do not put in food plots. I just do not see how those two things are different other then time and cost. How ever like you said that is for another thread so I will leave it at that before this takes the talk way away from what the op intended.
  10. I do not think he was compareing them to the safe act. I think he was saying that like the safe act and many other laws we are told itis in our best interest like we can not decide those things for ourselfs. IMO putting out a bag of corn or anything else is the same as planting a food plot. Is there less money and work involved? Yes yet it is still done with the same thing in mind bring the deer to mee and get them away from others. They are both things that are not there naturally a person had to put them there. Dump a bag of crushed beats or plant them they are still being put somewhere nature didn't put them mand put them there. Just my opinion
  11. How many times have we heard that science studies say something is bad just to have the same people do another study that says that same thing is ok. Heck one day they say do not eat eggs the next they say eat all you can. I am not saying it's good or bad I'm just saying that over time all science becomes suspect because the studies are so often proven to be sighted towards a persons or groups goals. Everything has a price and if people deem that price too high they stop paying it. If ammo is to expensive because of only haveing copper aviable many could stop hunting and get rid of there guns. One could look at it as a way of getting rid of all guns, price the ammo so high we can not afford it. Not saying that will happen but you never know. How do I know that the studies are not just a ruse and that is there end goal? Like Doc said lead has been used for centuries and then suddenly someone found a dead Eagle and blamed it on lead because lead was found in it system whem they studied it. That doesn't mean it came from hunting lead is in many things it could have came from anything. Like I said I amnot saying it is good or bad but I do not see or hear of Eagles droping from the sky on a daily bases either. Science means nothing when there are so many ways to counter it. And sometimes the cost does out weigh the results
  12. Congrats. There is no other feeling then the one you have when you see your new child for the first time. Doesn't matter if it is your first or third that feeling is something nothing will replace
  13. I have one that is a ladder stand. Kind of looks like a lounge treestand but with a platform. It is'nt too bad for weight. I can carry ladder and stand in with little effort.Best stand I ever had has a 3 inch thick seat that hangs on the frame so no hard services under your back or butt. The bottom has a foot rest on it. It is like haveing a recliner in a tree. Can set for hours in it. If is slow day can fall asleep very quickly. I sit from 5 in am till after dark in it and never get cramps or at any time am I uncomfortable. Haveing a platform under makes it nice so I can stand up once in a awhile. Not that I need to but it nice if I have to. Very easy to shoot from and to get in and out of. I will try to post pic of it tomarrow when I get back from woods. Have no clue what kind it is A friend gave it to me cause he hated it. I used it more then he did so he said keep it. I love it
  14. Yep my freezer. The rest I let my dad keep he either does some sort of mount or makes knifes. I let him hang the mounts I do not care about the rack just the meat
  15. That pic is from Eva Shockeys Fb page A guid where Her and her father are hunting bear in NC sent it to them. Her father has Same pic from another angle
  16. If it muzzle loader season and still have regular season tag left I would try for both. If regular season then either one rack goes in a box to use at later time and meat in the freezer.
  17. You have to add one more letter to your alphabet soup. Arcade is in both 9h and 9n. Depends what side of town you are on. I only say that because some do not realize that not saying you didn't
  18. yes you did say you wear a orange hat. I never said anything about what you wear or how much as you indicated in the post. I also never said I use scope to identify targets which you indicated I did. You also brought dmps and fawn kills into the subject, again what do they have to do with wearing orange. By the way deer can see shapes reguardless of the color camo or orange they still see you. Everyone here has said it is the movement that see not the color you are the one bringing color all the time. If you limit movement they have a hard time telling what you are. I am not being a tough guy internet or other. And for the record I wouldn't say anything different if you were standing in front of me. I never try being a tough guy I just say what I think and do not sugar coat it for anyone or anything. Why is it that when someone doesn't sugar there words they are being a tough guy? being a tough guy would be threatening someone or something of the like wouldn't it? I do not read anything like that in my post. The subject of the thread was the wearing of orange or camo and I think we should let things get back to that. So If you wish to continue send me a privet message or we can meet [not a threat just saying that is a option]
  19. Go for it bubba pick on my nickname all you want.Thing is it will not bother me at all nor will anything anyone says about me. Gotta admit saying that someone has nothing to add when they resort to personal attacks is a good one. Seeing that almost all of your posts are personal attacks of some kind. As was the post I was responding to. Hay I know how about having a answer when you get called out for your stupidity instead of side stepping it. Like I said I never said I use a scope to identify a target yet I never said that. I also never said anything about how much camo or orange you wear. Also like I said what the hell do dmp or fawn kills have to do with wearing orange. Do not said answer please. I was not haveing a fit then nor am I now just commenting on your ignorance.
  20. Bubba; A nick name used by rednecks and given to the most dimwitted of the group. Yep that works.Where in my statement was I haveing a fit.I never said anything about the amount of orange or camo you wear. I also never said I use my scope to identify a target. I said even if your target is in the open and you know for sure it is a deer there could be another hunter futher out that you didn't see but when have scope on deer you could see them in orange more so then you could see them in camo. If you see orange in your scope out past your target hopefully you wouldn't shoot. My use of the words your and you does not mean bubba directly just a hunter in general. I was assuming nothing about you. As for your ASSumptions, you let others tell you how things are and just go with it. You said you made these ASSumptions from what you have been told and what you have read. Try getting out and seeing for yourself. Do not make ASSumptions on what others say or write make opinions from your own actual experiences. Have you ever been hunting in the sz and been shot at or been down here and seen crazies running around the woods ? Maybe the people telling these stories are just mad because someone else gotthere big buck and they need to make them look bad. Not saying that is what happened . Just saying just because someone tells you these stories does not mean they are all true. I am sure it has happened not just in sz but many other places. As for dmp and fawns getting killed what do either of these things have to do with wearing orange or camo when hunting. That sounds like haveing a fit and grasping for something to complain about.
  21. heck lets just go with .338 lapua or.465 H & H or maybe a .50 bmg. Outta be able to make good hamburg out of a deer with those. I have a .243 and a .308 .243 kills just as well as .308. If you aim you do not need a big gun to kill a deer. Those are for the ones who do not aim and want to make sure tht no matter where the round hits they will have a dead deer.
  22. so every one who hunts in southern tier is an idiot Bubba. Even if your target is in the open and you know for a fact it's a deer what about the ridge 100 or 200 yards behind that deer. If there is someone over there and they are sitting still with camo you prob wont see them and if you miss or round goes through you could hit them. If they have orange on then you probably saw them or can see them in your scope and not shoot. Not every shooting is with a guy in the brush and another just shot at movement. Yes you should know your target and past it but if they are in good camo and a good distance away seeing them might be possable. As for your question of if orange cant be seen by deer then why use camo during bow season. The only reason for camo during bow is a mind set. I have had many deer walk up on me when in the woods with street clothes on and they never saw me as I am sure many others have. Only time I see camo as needed for hunting is turkey. As long as you do not move deer prob wont pay no mind to you but turkey run at any odd color. Turkey think every stump is a hunter deer think every hunter is a stump.
  23. This year only you can use your 2014 2015 license.Starting next year you will need current years license to hunt in September this years tag will not be any good. License is good from September first to September first.
