That'll teach him to go meddling around in other people's business! lol

It can be brutal and some times it is most pleasant. I can remember a few times as a youngster being on the ice in a t-shirt.

Some tip downs and fatheads after dark is my way of doing it. I jig too to pass time between hits on tip downs. Got out once last year, ice growth sucked..again.

I'm semi related to a DEP officer in northern Delaware county. A stand up individual. I agree that you should rack up some evidence and make your way over to the precinct for a sit down chat with the officer in charge. This guy of anybody should know the laws he's breaking.

ah I see. Yeah pretty sad when Johnny law won't stand up for what's right, but will eagerly push his badge around to show authority. Kinda makes ya wonder if China runs our public safety commission!

Happy Birthday John Daniel!

Maybe the boisterous crows were getting on their nerves? Poaching with a shotgun? Could they have picked a more dainty caliber?lol

If you haven't seen a deer in a good month then I'd hate to witness a bad month in your deer-less area. No but seriously, only you can determine what deer will give you satisfaction. By the sounds of it, you should be bringing in 4-5 buddies to do some doe management.

For all he knows is a tree branch fell, but he wasn't taking any chances so he continued on. I'd say your odds of seeing him again are fair. Maybe not on the same trail at the same time, but that deer didn't go far.
-
How did he react after you shot? Did he see you at all? Did you immediately get out of your stand?
-
All he's missing is a blunderbuss

You sprung for some very good traps. They will hold! I like to set on edges. Whether it be hedgerows or the edge of a corn stubble field. I will set on trail intersections inside the timber too because they will often take the path of least resistance. Try to keep the wind on your side so they will smell it as they pass. Good luck!

A pretty productive way to hunt them is to call them into a field after dark using red lights. If the land is timbered you may have to hunt them in the daytime(dawn/dusk) or trap them.

I think your neighbors should get a Thanksgiving card in the mail with a few copies of the pics! I like how in the last frame "the camo kid" was still stuck in the mud and the girl was gone.

That's why I don't go to the sawbones!.........or play soccer! lol

Can't you take your dog out there? You never know and he just might surprise you! Hope you get the deer!

Nice catch! Water Rat nailed it. I've had some crafty fox actually flip my trap over without setting it off.Coons can get pretty crafty too. I'm thinking the critter probably smelled you. Here's a little tip for fox, grab a few mouse traps and run a trapline in the shed, barn or garage. A whole mouse in a dirthole is candy to a fox. You can even freeze them individually in baggies and use as needed. I tend to be surgical about scent control. Rubber gloves and hip boots are very helpful. My dad taught me alot about K9 trapping. He taught me to evaluate a good trap site from afar, to hang my basket off the ground about 20yds from the set and to only take what I will be using into the set. Before I touch any equipment I will reach down and rub my gloves in the dirt, mud or grass. Always keep your bait, scent, lure from contaminating your traps and tools. I have yet to try the Full Metal Jacket trap dip, but have heard great reviewshttp://www.fntpost.com/Products/Trap+Dyes+Dips/Full+Metal+Jacket+Trap+Snare+Dip

He just got drafted by the new rugby team. The Pennsylvania Nunnery!

Usually good to remake after a catch and put a new set in about 15ft away. I agree with not using loud food based lures, although they will work you will also catch alot of opossum, skunk, and coons. Here's a little tip for dispatching skunks, shoot them in the chest and they (might) not spray as much.

Correct. Snares(cable restraints) are still illegal for trapping in NYS with the exception of a select few ADC(animal damage control) trappers. Certification is needed.

Congrats to Mr. Kenny Rogers for his entry into the Country Music Hall Of Fame and to George Strait for getting the entertainer of the year award. I thought Kenny's duet tonight with the gorgeous Jennifer Nettles was pretty damn good. Islands In The Stream has always been one of my favorite duets and Jennifer did it justice! Ya gotta hand it to the old timers for carving out the best genre of music. The new stuff can be pretty good, but I'd prefer to listen to the good ol' boys any day!
