Hancock House. Good food and lodging. Sporting goods shop next door

If there's snow on the ground, I'm on a trail or at least creeping through the woods/thickets. Deer don't always just b-line straight away, they know and utilize the terrain much better than us. They'll often hit a saddle or creek bed and try to loop back. Be sure to scan 360 and not just straight ahead. I've walked right past bedded bucks 30 yds away that would have went unnoticed if I hadn't looked over my shoulder.

hehe The name Bethe was beginning to remind me of a Scandinavian woman that I have the pleasure of knowing!

There would be no time for crapping of the pants! Just grab the bug-out bag and 2 shottys.

Ladders can be the cats a$$ if you don't plan on moving them around alot. I actually like the rodeo sometimes, but that's when I have personally attached 3 ratchet straps to the tree.

Sighting in Freehand vs. with a rest??
PREDATE replied to mlammerhirt's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
While resting the barrel is still better than shooting offhand, your gun won't be balanced and you'll be more wobbly. Try resting the barrel vs. resting the forearm and stock. You'll notice difference is night and day. A couple sandbags, a small table and a stool are all you need. -
I've made tripods out of logs for hoisting hogs. A hatchet and a 4ft length of chain and that sucker would've been 4' off the ground in about 15 minutes. A simple fulcrum and lever can be useful too

Sighting in Freehand vs. with a rest??
PREDATE replied to mlammerhirt's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
Your guns POI is always the same, you're just adjusting the sights/reticle. Zero it to the best you can from a good rest. Then you can't blame the gun if you miss! You're never gonna get the gun zeroed by shooting offhand, unless you're only shooting 20yds -
A simple come along is $40-50. Each rated to lift 8,000 lbs. We keep a few around. Lifting that beast would be a cinch! Our redneck ingenuity would amaze most yuppy folks! lol

Why's the neck so skinny? lol I like the mount. Congrats on a nice buck!

How windy does it have to be to keep you from hunting?
PREDATE replied to LiveFree1776's topic in Bow Hunting
The wind probably whips across the marsh, but it's still worth a shot. I'd prefer to be in a stand of pines down in a valley. Keep the wind in your face and enjoy the day in the blind! -

PREDATE replied to LiveFree1776's topic in Bow Hunting
Gun or bow, still hunting in the wind can pay off. The deer will know where to go to get out of the wind. Just use your noggin and get in there. Are you driving 1.5 hours to L.I. to hunt? Couldn't you drive the whole perimeter of the island in 1.5 hours? -
my brother just toppled a nice 8pt

Any report of feral hogs being harvested up there yet this year? We chased them around up there a few times. It was summertime though and they vanish into the underbrush.

All good suggestions. You could try a few methods and let your guests decide what they like. Personally I just slice the strap in 1/4" slices. Get the skillet hot and flash fry them in butter with a little garlic salt and maybe black pepper. Melts in your mouth! Enjoy!

That'll teach him for meddling in other people's business!

I usually start with the boxers. One leg now, one later. I've literally went home with nothing but the elastic band.

LMFAO I can see it now. He gets pulled over on the way home and the officer notices a tied up bag!

Spotlighting 500' from a dwelling is illegal and if they had a firearm/bow that was not unstrung or locked in the trunk, that is another offense. Sounds like they were there for nothing other than to annoy you and spoil your hunt. Unfortunately, it probably won't be the last time either.

A simple padded stool/chair makes a world of difference. I tuck in behind a fallen log or something.

The drive(rear) axle of a quad are always straight. The springs/shocks are between the axle and the frame. There is usually a good 8 inches between the top of the tire and the wheel well/fender. This looks like the fender would be rubbing on the tire.

Exactly the reason why I hunt escape routes! The way I see it is the rut will still happen. The does will be edgy from hunter pressure / gunshots and seek these dark hideaways and pull the almost oblivious bucks in with them. It's not hard to predict where the deer will head when they get pressured. The thickest, nastiest and almost impenetrable cover around!

It looks real to me. If you click the pic and enlarge it you can see the ratchet strap around it's neck. That's what is holding the head up. You can also see the upper lip hanging down. The wheeler is squatting pretty good.

What an awesome specimen!

Sooner or later these guys will get caught. Or maybe a badger will get em'!
