You can plant them now but they may not get very big. You wouldnt be too late for winter rye.

I don't go by the soil test other than for lime. A friend of mine who does food plots (but does not do mine) told me to lay it down each time you plant. So far I have followed his advice and everything has worked out great. Brassicas are nitrogen hogs but they also like a lot of phos. I plant my grains heavy (based on LC MIx) so I want a lot of fert on them as well. But as years go by I may adjust. It is always a work in progress. 300 ppa of triple 15 on anything I plant seems to work well. -

I doubt 400 ppa would cause an issue but you never know. More than likely they would germinate and die from nitrogen burn. But I am not an expert on this either. I just know that it is commonly stated to spread 300 - 400 ppa of triple 15 on things like brassica. I go with 300. Honestly, I doubt it would be a problem but why go over what your recommendation is? -

I would do as bugs stated. I only use Triple 15 and I use it @300 lbs per acre each year on everything. 260 should be fine . -
The purple color in brassicas is Phosphorous deficiency. No doubt. I had it happen here once. I use triple 15 (15-15-15) on all my stuff at a rate of 300 pounds per acre. So it would be 75 pounds on a 1/4 acre. Around there parts, it would cost $18 (1.5 bags). You stated you planted your oats too thin. I would not have planted them so early. I try to plant my grains around September 15th but, of course, my land is not yours. I would put down Winter Rye at a rate of 150 lbs. per acre (~37 lbs for a 1/4 acre). Throw in the above triple 15 at the said rate. I use that much because they hammer it. You can still use oats as well. Or mix them. But I like Winter Rye because it stays green so much longer and I don't seem to notice any difference between one grain or another. I am not trying to be preachy. It is just my opinion and experience. Still plenty of time to get something going.

You will have to get something close to it and adjust the poundage rate. You need to take your soil sample to a local Agway and show it to them. They will find something similar and adjust the rate. So - as an example - your 6-12-12 (at 200 lbs per acre) may become 15-15-15 at 100 lbs per acre. Or - as another example - You mix 125 lbs of 12-12-12 with 25 pounds of 0-10-10. Find a local small Agway(ish) type store and take your soil sample to them.

Well said.

Is there anyway you can plant evergreens while planting grasses? That way you will only have to plant grasses for about 5 years.

Breaking ground what to use?
LetEmGrow replied to corydd7's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
The question is..... what do you want to plant? I would recommend you do not spend to the hills depending on the answer. Things like brassicas, turnips, and Winter Rye will do well without a ton of tillage. Also - if this is new ground then consider getting someone to turn it over with a chisel plow first. After that all you need to worry about is discing. I own this disc and my ground is heavy clay and rocky. It's a beast. It even works well on new ground in early spring with some moisture in the ground. And that's with no weight. But I ull it with a tractor. http://www.runnings.com/farm-implements-and-parts/king-kutter-48-atv-flip-over-disc.htm Be patient. You will have the land a long time. -
I bought a John Deere. I had some problems with it early on and I do not think their implements are as good as others. If I had to do it again I would buy something else. Kubota would be a definite consideration.

Is it me? Or have they come down a lot in price? I am thinking about planting them this year to see if they fair any better than normal oats or Winter Rye (for that matter). But I remember seeing $99.99 on their Website a couple of years ago and I believe that was for a 50 lb bag. Am I wrong? http://www.buckforage.com/catalog/Seeds/Fall/Buck-Forage-Oats/6

Elite Synergy Bow For Sale

Used Elite Synergy Bow for Sale. Model #5. 29" draw length 33.5" axle to axle More details at the link below https://www.elitearchery.com/products/2016/synergy.php Included with the bow are: Top of the line APEX Site (I don't know the model but I believe it cost around $150 at a small shop) Trophy Taker X-TREME FC Pro arrow rest Peep site installed 6 ACC 3-60/340 arrows (used and fletched with 4" vanes on a right helical). * The bow does not have a quiver. I purchased the bow in December 2015. It shoots great and is in perfect working order. On the top cam wheel edge, there are some shiny marking where the coating was chipped off because I hung the bow on a nail in my backyard (I should know better). Other than that, it is practically brand new. The reason why I am selling it is because I missed having a shorter bow. For the few years prior I used a 30" bow and just did not like the extra 3.5" (as crazy as that sounds). I figured I would post it on here before I eBay'd it. I live in Ontario County and I can tell you the shop where I bought it too. The price is $500. The site, rest, and arrows would be at least half of that by themselves. I just want to get rid of it. It is a very nice bow. You can even shoot it here at my home before you buy it if you like. PM me if you are interested. Thanks, Rob

I would say upper 130s gross but in the 130s for sure. Who the hell cares. Nice buck!

Tractor Supply rules. Runnings is great. If you are ever near a Rural King (not currently in NY) they are awesome too. But nothing beats good ole Tractor Supply. I buy a lot of my clothes there too. I just feel American shopping there.

Didn't see the update. That's good. Could be worse. I'm sure you'll be the first one thet call if it falls through. People who pay money for something often feel "entitled". See if they don't pizz em off real soon. 4 guys to do it too. You're a good man. Hang in there.
-
Up this this point anyway. Now they have a dollar amount to compare it to.

If it is all forested then $1800 would be a little in the low end. They Prolly could've gotten 1-2k more as it could accommodate at least 4 hunters. Sounds like this was an impulsive decision by the landowners and prolly not legally well thought-out as stated above. But pretty impulsive by the hunters, as well, this late in the season. They must've seen something YUUUUGE!

Congratulations! I love the story. Not many could hold put like that. Nice buck for ur first.

Yeah, it may be possible that a person can look like a deer for a split second but that has nothing to do with finding the crease, which is you next objective. At 24 years old and in low light conditions he must have decided to just start blasting. What a shame. I can only imagine what it is like to be him right now.
