I can assure you that Ted is not arrogant at all.. although i guess you might consider him rich for he has done well for himself... he is every bit as pleasant in person as he is on TV... and actually a hell of a guy... he is currently having a tough time with his illness so that may be why he didn't reply.

Thats exactly right.. thats how i got to 58.. I averaged out the circums to about 16" total...FYI there are always 4 circum measurements per side even on a 6-point

I think his motive was entertainment mostly but yes maybe some of what you say as well... kinda like a good attempt at a drive by shooting..and some guys got wounded..lol
-
This is kinda like the "Price is Right"... next contestant.. Come on down!!
-
Doc... I'm not so sure it is true in this case... I think 308 had something to say and wanted to see what kind of rise he could get from the forum.. knowing full well what kind of reaction he might get... I am sure to his delight the reaction was exactly as he expected.
-
Why rely on just lucky?... hunting a particular buck and tracking him to his bed and killing him is very enjoyable... why burst the guys bubble if he wants to hunt a 100" buck?... you don't like guys pushing their way of hunting but you sure like telling guys not to hunt big antlers and to settle for something they don't want to kill... because thats how you do it... maybe your way isn't the way he wants to hunt.
-
That's not really much of an accomplishment here... it's easy to get a rise on this forum...dare you to say that you don't like hunting from a treestand!! LOL
-
Yes it should be about antlers if that is what you want it to be about... I don't understand why it can't be about antlers for some of us... I hunt for big antlers and I'm not ashamed of it and don't need to be... if you don't like big antlers then don't hunt for them, but I do and thats what makes hunting exciting for me... and for a lot of other guys as well. its not about killing everything you see either.. unless thats what you want it to be...

Nothing like having a good response to a debate... gotta say some of the responses are just as ridiculous as the original statement... It would be nice to think that those responses are from the immature kids here and not some of the adults.

Look at the smile on that kids face!! priceless!!

I'm sure we all know of a buck that was lost with a good hit in him as well... so it's not always bad shots.
-
I have taken 10 NY bucks that score over 100... they range from 104 - 155.. I also have one buck that scored 98.. I've gone many years with no buck and have passed on well over 100 bucks since 1994... I wouldn't say I'm a good hunter though just a picky one...

You fellas don't have to agree with his statement, but he's still entitled to his opinion... I think he's wrong about it being just bowhunters... it happens all the time with all types of weapons... missed shots are just part of the human condition... I think I've said it before.. there are no sure shots... just higher percentage shots... losing deer is less the problem than losing a deer because of a bad shot choice.. especially if you know it's a bad choice. So although I don't like how he said it.. he is right on some points.. but it is not a bowhunting problem its a hunter problem... the problem of having to kill something at all costs... even if it means taking a shot you have no business taking... but we are all human and we make mistakes so you better be prepared to accept some mistakes or go through life terribly frustrated. FYI I have never lost a deer either, but thats only because I've had some good luck, not because I haven't made mistakes as well.

Without the rut there is no per-rut... meaning the mature buck you've been seeing... you probably wouldn't have seen... I'll take my chances with a rutting buck any day... thats the only time he's more stupid than us hunters...
-
Mount anything you're proud of... thats a nice first buck with any weapon. Good job

Arrow or bullet? and blood is the best sign
-
exciting isn't it??
-
If I'm the next guy.. I promise you I won't shoot him...but shoot him anyway
-
Like Hillbilly says.. thats how they got to be big boys... this is the only time of year that they make mistakes... their experience makes them way harder to catch up to than the youngsters. The older they get.. the harder they are to kill!! They know how to give themselves every advantage and give you every disadvantage

I could never even mistake a man wearing a fur coat for a deer... again its a case of a guy thinking that getting a deer is more important than safety... it only takes a second or two to be sure of what you are shooting at.. if you aren't sure you shouldn't be shooting... no deer is worth killing someone over. I think there are no accidents when it comes to this ... it is 100% avoidable!!!

I have found that passing on bucks at close range has cured any jitters I might have had in the past... I have never had what most would call full blown buck fever... but I did sometimes find myself getting a little anxious...and had to stop and take a breath before shooting... I still get pretty excited after a kill though.. I only look at a deers rack long enough to tell if he's a shooter.. after that its all business. Also... having a limited range of 20 yards with the recurve I have had to watch many huge bucks wander around just outside of range... the more you watch the easier it gets

Great experience to share with your son

Actually a doe produces certain phermones only during the estrus cycle which are picked up by the buck and triggers his breeding instincts... her body language only tells him the specific moment that she will allow him to mount her... a buck can track any deer by their interdigital gland and will track any doe with his instinct (based on higher hormone levels or testosterone in the buck at this time of year) telling him that it is breeding season. most does will come into estrus around that same time so his chances of finding a receptive doe are pretty good. Freezing doe scents during this time will increase the shelf life of the estrus scent which definitely has a short shelf life but lasts longer than 45 seconds.
