Do you wear Orange? If so why? If not Why not? :)
nyantler replied to TheHunter's topic in General Hunting
I would hope that as well Bubba, but experience has shown me that it is not always the case... I wear some orange when hunting south, and when I'm 5-8 miles back in the adirondacks and am clad in only white. I feel much safer sometimes in white far back in the mountains. -

Wearing orange may be safer for me, and I believe it is. But wearing it doesn't make the unsafe hunter any safer for me.... -
maybe we both need a break... or the rest of the guys a break from us..
-
Way to back away and save face Doc.. better if maybe you and Larry discuss things and let the rest of us know what we ought to say.
-
And by the way I would have answered the survey with the 58% based on the 3 choices.. but that has nothing to do with the fact that I would support some form of AR to create a better age structure in the buck population. By choosing to shoot only bigger bucks I am excercizing my right to shoot whatever buck I like.. just like the rest of you.

The deer drives are not unsafe, the deerhunters are....
-
See now here is an example of you Larry and Doc not paying attention... the cornell study was done on the entire state.. the 20% I am talking about was the extention to 8WMU's which is what Hurst was talking about and what the DEC was refurring to... now i know how you guys get things so twisted... yeah twisted doc.. support for voluntary AR is support for AR... just because they are afraid to mandate it doesn't mean they don't support it. You can keep spinning it anyway you like if that works for you.

Sorry Bubba but you are entirely wrong..not my opinion ... fact -
Some think it is made by a warble fly, which is the fly that lays its eggs in deer antler during velvet... but there is usually a hole associated with that occurrence from where the fly exits when it hatches... many times the type of mark that you see here is from hitting the tip on something solid while still in velvet causing the tip to compress slightly and leaving that little bulb when the antler hardens. Although bucks are extrememly protective of their antlers during the growing period they occasionally bump them causing small deformations... you could actually bend the antlers by hand while they are growing and form them any way you like if you could get the buck to hold still long enough to do it The owner of the most photographed buck ever actually bent the bucks tips in slightly so he could recognized the buck among some similar looking bucks in his herd. The buck's name was "BIG JIM" and if you look up some of his photos by Charlie Alshiemer you'll notice the tip bent in. Below is the only pic I could find of big jim (on the right) but you can see the bent in tip on the right g2

Where do you get the idea I'm pushing anything on you.. like I said, doesn't matter to me how others like to hunt. I am not a member of any QDM group or organization and have never lobbied for any AR.. I just have an opinion on the subject. I don't need AR to hunt the way I chose... I think deer management is a great idea for the deer, but i also do not think it will have any affect on the way I hunt or have hunted... again you guys talk as if you know anything about why I choose to hunt bigger bucks.. but so far you are totally wrong.

There is some good eatin'

You guys are really don't understand us guys that hunt big bucks at all... it certainly has nothing to do with getting a bigger buck than anyone else... and we are much different from QDMers... Although I think deer management is a good thing when asked my opinion about it, my choice to only hunt bigger bucks has nothing to do with qdm. And all of the big buck hunters I know feel the same way. You fellas seem to think that our CHOICE to hunt bigger bucks has anything to do with what other hunters are doing...we couldn't care less... I hunt big bucks for one reason only.. because I totally enjoy it! I get absolutely no enjoyment out of killing younger bucks..sorry but I personally don't see the challenge in it. But, that doesn't mean I think I'm any better of a hunter than the next guy. And you're wrong Bubba, our way of hunting is far safer than the "shoot at anything hunter", we actually take a good look at what we will be shooting at long before we shoot. It is never a contest between us... and we don't see the necessity to kill a buck at all costs. In fact, we are perfectly ok with going without a buck if we can't kill on that meets OUR standards. It's funny how the guys that aren't big buck hunters seem to think they know anything about why me or my friends hunt that way. If you knew any of us you'd get a whole different impression of why we absolutely love hunting the way we do. Stop mixing us up with QDM proponants.. we are not those guys.

Looks like the NRA can lose.

I agree Doc.. its the truth that most outdoorsman are the "shut up and hunt" type and we all are too busy enjoying ourselfs to get caught up in the crap. I am defintiely not the activist type.. rather be enjoying the hunting , or fishing while I have my time on earth. -

Very surprised to hear that from you... Bubba... but to each his own...by the way nothing is as phony as global warming... except maybe Al Gore! -
I know I did my part! But I know there are many guys that piss and moan about how things are and don't even take the time to do something as simple as vote.
-
Why Elitism? Because he wants to put bigger deer and more of them on the wall? I have said it before and will say it again.. there isn't a single guy on this forum.. not ONE.. that if faced with the choice of 2 bucks standing in front of him.. one a spike and the other a 150 class 10-point ...wouldn't shoot the 10-pointer every time... so all you trophy hunter bashers are just trophy hunters that haven't been lucky enough to kill your big buck yet..!

Man, I hear that Bubba.. I know I come off that way too.. but if you know me I'm not the kind to fly off the handle easily... just a bit loud when I'm trying to get a point across... -
I have never met a hunter that doesn't give a rats ass about antlers... and i'm sure I never will. They say that until the first big monster buck crosses their path.

Much easier to feel comfortable having my handgun more readily available now that we have no kids in the house... I'm sure that situation will change once we have grandchildren -
Fellas name that took the buck is Chad Ellerson

"DEC earlier this year indicated it would expand antler restriction regulations only if hunter sentiment was strongly - at least two-thirds - in favor of such a move. Even with strong support, if more than 20 percent of the hunting community was strongly opposed to the move, DEC officials said an antler restriction plan would be scrapped." Sounds to me like if they had gotten less than 20% they would have expanded to the regulations..I could be wrong. What I don't understand is they got more than 2/3 (69.8%) in favor with just 20.3% stongly opposed and scrapped it anyway.. very confusing.
