To be fair that has been tried and tried in NY with pheasants... and for some reason it just isn't working like it did with the turkeys.

That's what I'm talkin' about... I forgot all about that part of the movie!! that's funny!!

My friends and I sometimes do a form of deer driving where we try not to get the deer running for their lives, but rather hunt into the wind to other hunters positioned quite a ways away... deer usually smell the pushers as they're hunting and slowly move out of the area toward the other awaiting hunters... 9 times out of 10 when a sitter sees a deer it is just walking... makes the shot opportunity much better and time to see what is beyond the target.

WNYBuckHunter's Outdoor Journal

That buck has the body of a bull... man that's impressive! His body stunts his rack. -
What? and you didn;t jump on the "ass of a rhino" part too... you're slippin' Wooly

LOL... I would expect nothing less from this crew!!

Usually it will depend on how far in I will be... and how much I am able to carry in with me... short trips allow for a better menu, while longer, deeper trips are probably going to be dried foods. What the food is sometimes doesn't matter as much as just having something to stuff in my mouth... after a long day of hunting I can be so hungry that I'd eat the ass of a Rhino!! Fortunately that meal doesn't come in the dried food packages

If you kill a deer... what difference does it make who eats it as long as it gets eaten? If you don't like venison but your family does, they don't get to eat venison because you don't eat it? How about if your mom and dad like venison? You can't give them any? If I have 100 tags and want to kill 100 deer and give it to charity that's what I'm doing... don't care how many deer the rest of you get.. that's your problem... just because I can hunt every day and you can't doesn't mean I have to leave deer in the woods for you... How am I suppose to know when, where or who is hunting on the state land I'm hunting... for some hunters it wouldn't matter if the woods were full of deer, they still couldn't kill one... it's not up to me to try and make your experience better... it's probably not ethical to expect the hunters that can kill deer... not to... and deprive hungry people a donated meal in hopes that you MIGHT be able to kill a deer. Not to mention I'm doing my part for population control regardless of whether I eat the meat or not myself. If you have trouble filling your tags maybe you can get some donated venison at your local soup kitchen that was donated by someone that could.

This can be more enjoyable watching from the sidelines... ... just me and my like button!

It is not possible... piebald and albinism happen because of a recessive gene... that gene however may or may not be passed on later by a piebald or albino... a fallow deer coloration is normal and doesn't involve that recessive gene.

If you think about it... Ethics isn't really what's accepted by you, but what is excepted by others.

Just to clarify though I haven't shot a deer sitting in over 20 years... if I was a sitter I think I'd prefer mornings...

That might be a small buck.. but it's hide is so pretty I'm not sure what I would do until the buck was right in front of me. I know for sure I wouldn't shoot it unless I was going to full mount it...

My last 5 bucks were taken between 11 am and 2 pm... I should say 5 of 6.. this years buck was taken around 8 am

The origin of the word "piebald" comes from "pie" meaning "mixed up", and "bald" meaning "having a white spot". Hence the DEC site is wrong... the coloration of a piebald is the mixture of a naturally colored deer and white. A deer with any black coloration is considered Melanistic which is the production of too much of the pigment known as Melanin and it is extremely rare. Skewbald is just another term for piebald. They are the same. An albino has total absence of Melanin.. or the absence of pigment. The Seneca White Deer are leucistic - a reduction in all types of skin pigment, not just melanin. http://www.nyantler-outdoors.com/albino-deer.html http://www.nyantler-outdoors.com/piebald-deer.html

because someone killed it... all of us here on the forum get to see it... and all the hunter's friends get to see it... and he'll probably mount it which means people will see it for years after the bucks normal life expectancy in the wild.. Seeing it in the wild would be much harder and by less people.

I have a Winchester Model 94 from the 60's... its like new... I use it a few times a year just because it's so cool... not my weapon of just, but I have yet to kill a deer with it so I take it out occasionally with hope of taking my first.

I never gave bow hunting the respect it deserves....
nyantler replied to ApexerER's topic in Bow Hunting
Bow hunting is not better or worse... just different depending on where when and how you hunt... it can be more challenging because shots generally have to be much closer and the angle just right compared to gun hunting... all hunting if done correctly deserves respect... the whitetail is a cagey animal and way better in it's element than most hunters... bow hunting has caught on quite well in the last 30-40 years mainly because it added more time in the woods and extra deer to the deer hunting season... also because it allows hunters a fighting chance on smaller pieces of property in suburbia that may not be suitable for gun hunting... I always enjoy it as a good time to scout out what kind of deer are in the area... also nice seeing what deer do naturally when out of range if not scared for their life from be pounded by the pressure of gun hunters. -
I agree... been saying that since I've been on the forum... that's why I made the point I made.. that's my opinion... and I realize not everyone agrees with it... and that's okay... just like speaking your mind and someone else not agreeing with it... same thing... I never said to stop doing it... absolutely speak your mind!... but don't get all cranked up if someone doesn't like it. Defending your opinion is different than getting all cranked up.

What do you think would happen if you put the Dawn in the water when you're boiling it? I also heard someone say they have boiled it in water and dishwasher liquid... any experience with that kind of thing?

I think we went over this before but it is way easier to google the law and get the right answer than to ask the fellas on here... like you have seen, answers are usually all over the place. Do yourself a favor and go to the source for your answer.

Had three in me in the last 4 years.. pull 'em, peroxide them, and keep an eye on them... no issues.. If you develop a ring around the bite area or any swelling or irritation see a doctor right away. Could just be infected, but needs to be treated. I've lost count of all the ticks I've had on clothing and walking on my hands over the years.

I didn't say I didn't like the photo... it's actually pretty cool... I'm smart enough to know how big an animal is when someone takes that kind of photo... in this case I was making the point that he took the pic that way to deceive people into believing the coyote was a wolf... other than that.. how someone chooses to take their photos to preserve their hunting (or trapping) experience is up to them and doesn't affect me at all. I can enjoy the photo no matter how far or how close the hunter is from the animal... if a hunter wants to make his 6-point look bigger... God Bless him... its his photo not mine. I'll still know it's a small 6-point. I find it more annoying that how someone chooses to take their OWN photo bothers others... it's not your pic... what do you care? Not intended, before or now, as a flame it just doesn't make sense to me why it bothers people so much thats all.

If you look at this logically... if wolves were introduced into NY when the first accusation came out many years ago we would be overrun by them... wolves are pack animals... that's how they survive... they live in family units that produce many pups a year... any introduction, even a small pack would soon have created enough wolves where sightings would become a common occurrence... that hasn't happened anywhere in NY... much like bigfoot... there is NO real evidence of even one wolf in NY since the first accusation many years ago... if you believe there are you are at worst delusional and at best just don't know what a wolf looks like or anything about them... it isn't rocket science... just common sense.
