Maybe for you and I it might be reckless... I can't shoot like that... for him it might not be reckless at all. Just like it would be reckless for me to jump in a race car and go 200 mph around a track thinking I won't crash.. for a Nascar racer, not so reckless at all.. man has to know his limitations... And, nobody would have had a problem with this video had it been four coyotes instead of four deer... like somehow deer are different and demand more respect.

Remeber me saying...

Donald Trump will never be president... his participation is simply about self promotion and a bad case of narcissism. -
I'd say taking four deer in that short amount of time is pretty challenging too! Next challenge.. doing it with muzzleloader
-
You might be right about the mass Sam, but if you look close at his beams they are very short only about 3 times longer than his ears... I bet they barely get to twenty inches

I would never have the need or want to kill four deer in one sitting, but if I did I would do it the same way.. with hopefully the same results. Pretty sure I don't have the skill to shoot four deer that quickly. Having said that... I don't get rapped up in the whole ethical shooting thing when it comes to a killing sport like deer hunting... you can't kill what you don't shoot at...killing is killing regardless of how neat you try to make it... didn't have any problem with the video or the hunter until he started posting.. still have no problem with the video, but after further review the hunter seems like kind of a D-bag...

The Jerk and Animal House... but all the ones mentioned here are great as well especially The Patriot

beams 40, tines, 38, circums, 30, spread 17... 125

Actually you can use the ears for a reference... a deer's ear cup is right around 6" and works quite well... you're right about not knowing exactly without putting a tape on him but getting in the ballpark isn't that hard.

Sometimes we forget that this is a killing sport... like it or not. There will be those in the world that believe that none of what we do is ethical... Having an opinion based on how you decide to kill deer is fine.. it doesn't make you right or wrong as long as it gets the job done legally. There is no difference in wounding a deer that is standing or running, most of us has done one or the other or both. On one subject we say here that as long as its legal its okay... yet on another subject some say that if you don't do it my way it isn't right or ethical... if we're going to except deer hunting for the killing sport it is then we shouldn't get upset for anyone's choice of how they legally fill their tags... that doesn't mean you can't have your opinion about how you might do it, but to call someone else's choice wrong or unethical or say they aren't real hunters is a bit over the top.

I have had it every way known to man and am not a fan... I did enjoy a corned goose sandwich once and goose jerky... but to have it roasted... YUCK!

With my recurve a pass through or hitting a tree is never a worry for me .. but you're definitely right about the new compounds... even a blunt tip at those speeds wouldn't fair well if it hit something solid

At our camp in the ADK's we actually have more hunters now than we ever did... most are our kids that come up to spend time with their dads .. unfortunately our kids do not have that same passion for hunting as us dads do... although our kids have a great time with us ...we know that when we are gone our kids might not have the same desire to keep the tradition going... we can't force that on them... we can only give them the best experience we know how and hope they carry on the tradition with their kids

Pretty close but I'm guessing you can add an inch to all your measurements except maybe the circumferences which on a buck this size are usually no less than 32 total inches.. which puts him in the 140's easy... beams are definitely longer than 40... may even be closer to 46...

Happy Birthday young man

I also like the blunts for stump shooting while I'm searching for squirrels and rabbits... I usually bring a blunt during deer season for the same reason... practice while hunting!

That's a good example of a really mature buck... that's a NY book buck all day... just a beauty of a buck! I wouldn't leave that area until I killed that buck or found out someone else did.

This has been the biggest change in hunter attitude in my opinion... the surge of bow hunters since the 1980's has transitioned hunting from the ground to the tree... and the warmer clothing has kept them there... I also think the reason we hunted more back in the day is because we usually hunted with other people... family members and friends... it wasn't an option to not show up when the others planned on hunting... it is much easier to get up and get going if you know others are planning on you being there... especially when you were anticipating a fun day with fellow hunters. Many still hunt that way... but I think there are more lone hunters than years ago... its easy to bag that snowy cold morning if you're the only one involved. I think this has at least a little to do with the reason why hunters don't put in the hours they use to. Remember too that we didn't have as many days to hunt years ago either which probably is why we saw more hunters , more often.

I use blunts and they kill all "small' game deader than dead... never ruin any meat... judo points sometimes get a bit messy

Until they find a better way to control wildlife populations hunting will continue to exist... there is still plenty of public land that is relatively untouched by hunters... and those lands heavily hunted don't get much pressure more than a couple hundred yards from the main road. The stoppage of hunting will bring far worse consequences than just wildlife overpopulation. Those who really want to hunt will always find a place to plunk their butts to hunt whitetails.. those who don't won't, but it will never just end without something to take it's place... and so far nothing has been proven to be as affective a conservation tool as hunting..period.

I should say Doc that I do understand your point and it may be true... I just believe it doesn't have to be true

That is true depending on what one considers "quality"... in these days of hunters complaining of hunting access, not seeing enough deer, not seeing enough bucks or big bucks... etc. I personally have experienced none of it... my choice to go wherever I need to go to enjoy my hunting experience has kept me from ever experiencing a difference in the quality of my hunting experience. There are millions of acres of free huntable public land all across NYS... an YES.. less and less private land. But I have never thought that the size of the land I hunted had anything to do with the quality of my hunt. If not filling ones tags means that the quality of the hunt is lessened then I suppose there will be hunters that feel that way in the future... hunting in the future will be what the hunter makes it... individual choices may be altered but do not have to be lessened and neither does the quality of ones hunt.

In some respects hunting has become too much about what is harvested than about the experience. The onset of QDM which was suppose to be a leg up for the whitetail in these days of diminishing habitat.. turned into a program for farming trophy bucks and in some cases unnaturally grown whitetails.. freaks in fact. Older, more traditional means of hunting are slowly being replaced by a more technical, and in my opinion, less natural ways of harvesting deer. But, that's what many of the older hunters will always be saying from generation to generation. It is nice that we can still choose the style of hunting that we enjoy most... I can still hunt with my traditional equipment and the guy that likes the newest technology can hunt that way... it is what it is... as you all know I have my opinions about different aspects of todays hunting and hunting styles... they are just opinions... the truth is that nothing about any new changes in hunting has or will affect the way I personally choose to hunt or the level of enjoyment I get from it.. those choices will always be mine... and I would hope the same for the rest of you. The future of hunting will be on the next generation and their personal choice.

No problem with taking those shots

There were representatives from all kinds of groups that would have an interest in the refuge...friends of the refuge included... basically it was just a think tank with input from all the groups.. there was nothing that wasn't discussed.. there were even non-hunting group reps there to help with human impact, social impact...etc. You name it and it was discussed. Basically this all came about because of the impact the deer are having on the habitat which is affecting the other animals that live and visit the refuge. Mainly the destruction and over browsing of food source. Sorry for the hijack.. maybe I'll get the paperwork together I have on the meeting and post another thread
