LOL... attacking how I hunt? That kind of thing only comes from a desperate person that gauges his hunting by how many deer he kills... unlike you I don't... sealing the deal as you say is not what I'm about... I haven't taken a buck with my bow in 13 years and it hasn't bothered me a bit... compromising on my personal goal would.. so unlike you I won't... taking a deer is easy.. I've done that ever year for 30 years... keeping a personal goal is hard and what makes it way more enjoyable for me... if I never take another deer the rest of my life makes no difference to me, but I'll still enjoy deer hunting just the same until I can no longer physically get out in the woods. You should try that concept sometime... you'll feel so much better. I did take a good buck last year in the ADK's to answer your question... but that really has nothing to do with what you were attempting to get out of me I'm sure.

The term "slammer" fits here!
-
I'm so sorry... I hope you reach your personal goal next year... it must have been hard for you to offer up that bit of info in your blab about your deer... not sure why you'd need to mention it... maybe it got some of the anxiety out.
-
The info is there for a reason... so that crap like this doesn't happen... the info given insures that the deer can be verified as legit... there is no ambiguity... the only reason not to offer up the info would be if you have something to hide... most hunters don't have the crazy paranoia that you seem to have... must make for a lot of anxiety for you during hunt season.
-
Wow you must have a guilty conscience.. I wasn't even referring to you.. I was just using your sentence as a lead in to my comment. As for the rest of your nonsense I'll just chalk that up to your defensive nature... funny too you didn't have any problem writing a novel about your buck this year.. even apologizing a bit because it wasn't as big as you would normally take... maybe you're right, people who blab about their deer may have issues.
-
Yeah like make a claim of a 200 class deer without posting a pic... anyone have a 300 class that they don't want to post either? Every year there are at least a dozen claims and unverified pics of the NEW NYS record buck!... and yet the Luckey and Boyland buck still sit at the top... anyone that doesn't come forward with a potential NY record has no idea why we keep the records in the first place... HINT.. it has nothing to do with the hunter.

Not if my mother-in-law cooks it..

Actually fellas the gun is only as accurate as the guy that is shooting it... regardless of what it can do at the range... throw in all the other elements in a hunting scenario and mister hole puncher becomes mister how did I miss that deer with this "accurate" weapon. I might not shoot a rifle as well as a shotgun and vice versa. I know all my guns are right on off the bench in a controlled environment... out in the field the more accurate gun is the one that killed the deer.

The Big Buck Club has no information about any new potential state record
-
LOL.. and why would you hunt there?
-
you be the judge... if that buck is 182 then it is one of the biggest bucks ever taken in NY.. I think not.. 182 pounds I would believe... nice buck none the less!
-
Deer call whenever they want.. they have no rules and you don't need any either... there is no such thing as too much calling or too little... I've heard deer do both... aggressive calling can be just as good sometimes as calling sparingly... it all works when the deer are receptive

maybe 3, 4, 5 hours before? Maybe camp out over night to take advantage of the midnight poachers moving deer? It all sounds ridiculous to me. Enter the woods a little before light with the wind in your favor works just as well and you get an hour more sleep... and it doesn't matter how early you get in if you don't use the wind the deer will know you're there anyway... I never understood the whole get in way before light... unless maybe you have a 1-1/2 hour walk to your stand. Getting in a little early to get settled in so you're ready for first light is more than enough.
-
Maybe its just me, but I would have gotten down from the stand and helped the guys look for the deer. Also, in my opinion there is no need to ever start your hunting day an hour and a half before you can legally shoot a deer... going in at dark a little before sun up maybe.. but an hour and a half? But I suppose when your afternoons arrive shortly after you get in the woods at dark... maybe it makes sense.

The friendly contest among friends can sometimes get out of hand as well... don't get me wrong, I understand the bragging rights, small money competition between friends at camp... and it can be fun with the right guys... but anytime deer hunting becomes a contest it leads to hunters doing things they may not normally do to come out on top... it's just the human condition and always will be when it comes to testosterone... As a scorer for the NYSBBC .. we sometimes even see it when it comes to the record book... most hunters don't understand that the records kept are to record exceptional deer, not exceptional hunters... it is not a contest... yet, some hunters will do things like try to enter a game farm buck, buck killed before or after shooting hours, etc. just to get in the book because they think it makes them look like a better hunter.. it's sad really... but some guys just can't help themselves. Contests with money or big prizes involved are even worse.

wow... again we find common ground..who would have thought? I also believe contests promote bad hunter behavior

Passing on bucks because of Antler Restrictions
nyantler replied to Dorsilfin's topic in Deer Hunting
For those complaining about having to pass young bucks that could be meat in their freezer... How many does have you had to pass up? If there were no antler restrictions and everyone had doe permits it sounds like you wouldn't be seeing either in 3A... because hunters would be killing everything and anything to fill the freezer... that's why we have deer management.. to save us from ourselves. There are plenty of WMU's with State land and doe permits if you need meat. I never understood why a hunter that has a need to feed his family with venison wouldn't travel wherever to make sure he had an opportunity to fill his freezer. I even know guys that scream about being meat hunters to help feed the family, but won't buy available doe tags in their area... just doesn't make sense. -
I'm with you... its as impressive as they get, but not sure it's as perfect a typical as the Hanson buck... it would definitely be in the running though.

Traditional hunt day for my son and I... and the start of a big Adirondack hunting weekend... today we hunt until Thanksgiving dinner that my wife slaves to make for the family... then a local hunt tomorrow and off to hunting camp tomorrow night... great weekend with my longtime hunting friends made special because now all our sons are there to hunt with us as well... hopefully when us old-timers are gone they will carry on the tradition passed on by our fathers.. Happy Thanksgiving fellas!

your granddad did a great job... I have a bunch he can do for me..

This is a perfect example of how a lot of you talk a good game about your reverence for deer hunting and conservation... based on the first post it is entirely exceptable to question whether the deer was taken during legal shooting time... with his explanation we take him at his word that it was and that deserves a congrats... but to be upset that there are some here who care about the law just shows me that some others of you might not have a problem with killing deer outside of legal shooting time... that's a shame... and to congratulate someone for an illegal kill would be more than a shame.

13 year old son got his first buck- 8 point
nyantler replied to Tim Rozansky's topic in Hunting Success Stories
If that was my son's buck I'd mount it... http://www.nyantler-outdoors.com/2013-youth-hunt.html
