2013 HNY Gun Hunting Harvest Thread

I think you got your pictures inverted somehow; your bolt's on backwards. Your nice 9 reminds me of the one my brother got a few yeards back. Very similar looking. -
If I were to hazard a guess it would be because not enough people care. I know I have zero interest in hunting doves, and therefore no interest in lobbying for hunting them. I grew up on the farm shooting pigeons out of the silo and haymow and doves just remind me too much of those filthy old things to ever bring myself to want to eat them.

Pretty sure they aren't going to refund my Lifetime License so not much sense in me not using it.

Or Dominic the Donkey?
-
Weird. I'd never heard of plugging a gun for anything but waterfowl.
-
What's up with the plugged gun? Not that it matters because next year Coomo is going to have us down to single shots and doubles andyway.
-
How well has the gun been lubricated? I know my Colt 1991 works flawlessly unless you run it dry/not enough lube, then after trying to run one mag through it you'll want to throw it in the river. Couple drops on the rails and it's night and day.

They're usually among the first to gripe when trails get shut down too.
-
Legally you can't ride the trails until deer season closes because the trails don't "open" until the day after.
-
Can we have antler restrictions too?
-
For skinning I use a boxcutter, same one I use for trapping. For cutting I use my Case hunting knife and the boning knife (sometimes the carving knife too) from our kitchen set of Henckels. I have a Cutco which seems to have a good blade but the handle is too slippery and I don't care for the handle shape.

I'm with Lawdwaz on that Santa Baby one. It's right near the top of my least favorite. I'm partial to Bing's White Christmas. Pretty much any Christmas songs by Bing Crosby, Dean Martin, Nat King Cole, Burl Ives and Frank Sinatra.

I've always thought it would be good if there were a few days to a week between the end of gun and the late M/L season.

Isn't it supposed to be blue tape?

How many are aware of this law?

Right where it says "furbearers". NYS classifies a coyote as a furbearer. "There are ten species of furbearers that may be hunted: coyote, bobcat, raccoon, red fox, gray fox, opossum, skunk, weasel, mink, and muskrat. Mink and muskrat may only be hunted under special conditions (see below)." http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/45559.html -
Hide inside the snowman or build the snowman and then go hide inside the house?

Winchester W209.

Let me look in my files and I have an email from Federal where I asked them this and got a response. Rats, can't seem to find it. Basically it said that 7.62x51 and .308 are the same, 5.56 and .223 are not.

Not sure what the issue is? It says right there that it is completely legal to shoot coyotes with a rifle during deer season providing you are in an area where a rifle is a legal implement. -
From the car!

I started using them because when I went to the gunshop to pick up some Pyrodex pellets they were out and didn't know when they'd get more. They shoot the same for me with 295gr Powerbelts and they seemed clean at first, but after awhile I'm not sure. I shot them this summer and cleaned the gun like I always do but when I got it out last week my breech plug was gunked up with white crusty stuff. I had to scrape it out and use a wire to open up the flash hole. Never ran into that with the Pyrodex pellets.
-
I realize it's a sample of 1 but Thursday I shot a 7pt with a drop tine using a 295gr Powerbelt over 100gr of IMR White Hots and he only went 40'. He was quartering towards at about 100yds. The bullet went through the front edge of his left shoulder, through the lungs and I found it under the hide midway back on the right side. It did lose a lot of weight and didn't exit, but I've had the same happen with my .30-06 at that distance too.

Used my doe tag on Thanksgiving on a button buck that someone had shot through both back legs. Little squirt couldn't have been more than 75-80 lbs.
