  1. Don't leave us northern guys out. Weather permitting, I have 14 days to go and I will be at deer tent camp. Tent was checked, one pop-up blind was aired out, do the other one this weekend. Clothes will get washed and air dried this weekend and treated with Sawyer's. Made sure things were in the b/w pack that need to be. Ordered what wasn't. C'mon 9/29 - and hopefully ma nature will cooperate. Sent from my XT830C using Tapatalk
  2. I might try getting over to PR at some point this season. Trying to put focus more on getting to know the land better in a few other areas. Most likely not even hunting Thacher this year. If I do it will be during bow as my shotgun doesn't like burping slugs too much. Thacher's no rifles crap puts my interest in other areas. I may go get the permit just in case I want a change of scenery. As for big bucks near Burke, my idea of a nice buck is a bit different than yours. Nice 6er wandering around a few weeks back. Where? In Margaret Burke. ........grin. [emoji6] Sent from my XT830C using Tapatalk
  3. Side note, just called Thacher about the permit. They start issuing them tomorrow, only give 40 if I recall, so get in for the permit ASAP. They go fast. Sent from my XT830C using Tapatalk
  4. Welcome. Black Creek Marsh gets some pressure during bow, Andy ton more for gun. Much of it's thick. Keir is small and is the same as Black Creek Marsh for pressure. Margaret Burke is also in the area, seen a couple nice bucks scouting there this summer. But, like Thacher, also has a lot of pressure from hikers and nature watchers. I would suggest Black Creek Marsh, Burke, or Thacher as they are bigger and easier to find a spot without another hunter 60 yards away. As mentioned, Partridge Run, but haven't been over there, but concesus from people in the area is it's the best place to hunt public land in the area. There's also Featherstonhaugh which doesn't seem to get a ton of pressure, and The Albany Pine Bush ( bow only ). Sent from my XT830C using Tapatalk
  5. Two pork loins. Dry rub of garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, basil, sea salt, cracked black pepper. Then a stone ground mustard marinade. Home made potato salad..
  6. Seen many ask about where to hunt. Came across this today. Good place to start and you can click on areas for more detailed information for your region and the public land. It's not perfect, but not much is from the DEC. But, it's more detailed then most of the general maps, and you don't need an APP to use it. Perhaps this is worth being "Pinned" or "Stickied". 7. That's all I have to say............
  8. First shot was a BH, bottom. Then 4 FT's. Roughly 18yds. Not to happy my FT group opened a little. Sent from my XT830C using Tapatalk
  9. Just think it's ironic is all. It's like someone who sells chickens giving a free Mink with the purchase. Sent from my XT830C using Tapatalk
  10. I wouldn't call Cats Eye. My fiancée was at the Waterford Tugboat Round-Up today, and Cats Eye were giving away Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches. Seriously? Great way to drum up business, give cockroaches out as pets, when they get loose take the call to exterminate them. You have to love the entrepreneurial fortitude of some companies.
  11. I just did a search for "Fuzzy white bugs on tree branches".
  12. Buck doesn't seem to concerned. Came back for further investigation. Maybe he likes being photogenic ?
  13. Just looked it up. https://dengarden.com/gardening/Woolly-Aphids-Whats-that-Fluffy-White-Stuff-on-my-Tree
  14. I think someone asked about this before. I am not positive but, I think it was some kind of bug.
  15. I just go when I have to go, no bottle. I would love to know how well it works out for you guys trying to pee in a bottle with a 30MPH wind.
  16. Perfect way to cap off the day. No pun intended. Sent from my XT830C using Tapatalk
  17. That pig looks awesome! Sent from my XT830C using Tapatalk
  18. I'm not a big King fan. If I want to read about this style of fiction, I go H.P. Lovecraft. Sorry, I like Lovecraft, Poe, and Bram Stokers original novel about Dracula remains the best vampire fiction to me. I have never read the the "It" novel. Have no desire too. I do remember when the first incarnation of the book that was made into a movie. Tim Curry played the demon/clown Pennywise. I like Curry as an actor, and that was the scariest he has done IMO.
  19. Thanks for posting this. Sounds like a good idea. Watched a few of his vids in the past, he also had one for using the same thing as a heating pad to increase warmth camping in cold weather.
  20. Yet you know how to post mems on command............ Odd story, maybe there is some truth to gators in the sewers.
  21. Papist has made pretty clear he doesn't like Islam, or many other races for that matter. We didn't make those people tear down Hussein's statue! The people of Saudi Arabia tore it down due to the liberation the USA gave them. I think the statues needed to be left where they were. Has anyone really looked at the "protesters" asking for the removal? Take a real look at the statue that was torn down in Durham! It was mostly over privileged white kids trying to be martyrs! This stupid race crap is flat out BS, and it's a cover up! Obama started it, and now people like Papist, Info Wars, and all the the acolyte's aren't making anything better. You want to make a difference, then do "SOMETHING"! Make your own site ( it's really not that hard ), organize protests, stop pissing and moaning if you aren't prepared to make a stand.
  22. Welcome back Dom. Very sorry to hear about your injuries. Hope you get it all sorted and get at least a few days in the woods this season.
  23. This is why boots on the ground scouting plays a huge part of hunting. Especially public land that might be new to you. I don't hunt from a tree stand, so I look for the bedding areas, food sources, and the travel routes deer use to and from those areas. Then I will set up a few brush blinds in different spots around the travel areas to deal with wind changes. You can have success 30 yds from a road, and you can success 3 miles in. The private property I hunt up north there's a creek 50 yards from the road, the creek turns into a natural funnel leading into a small marsh about 300 yds in. I had a couple brush blinds set up before the creek, and I have rarely sat there and not seen deer passing by. I also utilized the funnel and had some brush blinds set up on the other end by the marsh. I also had a few brush blinds back around a pond about a 3/4 mile in. If I go a full mile in, I am now off the property I have rights to hunt.
  24. I take a thermos of coffee with me at times. But, I cannot have caffeine, so it's more of a tradition then using coffee to keep me awake. Usually, just a bottle of water or two.
