True, but that goes for seeing or hearing them night before opener as well. The only guarantee in hunting anything is there is no guarantee, especially on public land. That's what makes it fun.

Yep. I agree. I have no idea why I even went. I ate breakfast and thought, "The heck with it, I think I'll take a drive.". It payed off. I will try to drive past that area again on Saturday around the same time again. That will most likely be the last scouting I get in. If I get another day I will put boots to ground and look for a nice spot to set up.

I have only been able to really scout an area about 4 times, and it was looking bleak at best. I took a drive this morning just to check a few of the open areas and small fields near the land. I actually saw a few turkey entering the woods heading towards a small swamp. It didn't get my heart racing as I only saw 3, but it gave a bit of hope to an area I was ready to give up on. At least I know there are a few in there now for sure. Just hoping there's a tom in the mix.

That's problem I am running into. All the local shops that have Benelli or Beretta in stock are full and are marked no steel. Same with the one that came with the gun. The steel doesn't 'deform' like lead in the tighter chokes. I have a few more places to call, and I am not in a hurry. I have bismuth in 3" for this spring and 4 boxes of basic lead #6, so not worried. I am considering water fowl for next season.

I only have 1. My 7mm-08, and I would hard pressed to give her up. Pretty versatile in many ways. If I could only buy 2 more to go with that, probably 30-06 ( ammo availability ) and would probably go .22LR for small game.

I bought it used last summer so no paper literature. The site says no steel in anything tighter then a modified. I wanted to call the CS anyway about getting new chokes and asked them while I had them on the phone about the steel shot. The gentleman said the same exact thing you said.

Thanks for the info Culver. That's pretty much what costumer service for my gun said. To order new chokes through the supplier is $21.50 per choke and $7.50 shipping. My TriStar uses Beretta/Benelli system so I can get them local and maybe save a few bucks. I want to get the modified and an improved cylinder.

That's exactly what the choke in my gun says. It's a full. That's why I started reading up on the topic.

I didn't think there would be a problem. In the past I had fixed barrel chokes, and mainly used lead ammo. The www isn't always the best place to get information. So I figured I would ask around here from people with experience on the matter. Thanks for the reply jjb.

Was doing a little reading last night and came across some articles about steel shot and interchangeable choke tubes. Some think the hardness of the shot can hurt a barrel/tube with the interchangeable's. Has anyone ever had an issue with this?
