Pork chops. I wanted them on the grill but the wind saw otherwise. White rice and steamed peas. No pics of plated food. Sorry.

Happy b-day. Have a few beers, eat some good food, and just have some fun.

That's how the original post was, it was about one county in WI. But, it has expanded as threads do, to be about the "What If's" of NYS. Perhaps if more DPM's were issued in those "High Probality" areas, more doe would be killed. Here's last years outlook on DMP's: http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/30409.html It seems like most of NY's hunters would kill more does, but they don't want to be told when to do it. So DMP's seem to be more of a factor and possible solution then altering the seasons.
-
The one thing I noticed from last season, is a few people were denied DMP's in areas that are high probability rates. My hunting will be done in two WMU's this fall, one has a high probability rate and high to get more. One is low and no chance to get more. DEC wants hunters to kill more does, then issue the DMP's, I have no issue with the $10 per cost as long as I walk out with the permits. Points are for football.

Great point's, especially about the holidays. LOL
-
Why not just extend the season until the end of December then and make that doe only? The two+ etra weeks would help. I know I would rather have a continued season rather then a break up in between.
-
True Culver. Was just thinking that killing them in Jan might reduce the buck population as well. Just thinking out loud.
-
I don't know about a January season. That might backfire as most doe will be preggers by then. I wouldn't mind Thanksgiving weekend from Thurs-Sunday doe only during the regular season. Maybe even the entire week after Thanksgiving doe only?

Venison Jerky Made in the Oven
DirtTime replied to AdirondackBadger's topic in Game Recipes / Cooking
That does look good. Thanks for the pics, I never thought of using kabob sticks for jerky. Nice trick. -
Can you please explain this? What exactly is 'conventional archery tackle'? So you are saying a crossbow is only effective for killing bucks but not anterless deer? LMAO!

Wolves kill 7 percent of elk in western state Wyoming
DirtTime replied to hunterman7956's topic in General Chit Chat
OK. LOL. I don't get this one at all. Not from a numbers thing or a physics thing, I am not saying this couldn't happen, but man, the variables are high against it. They claim a single pack of 9 wolves killed 19 elk in one night. A herd of elk is what, 6 to 35 in most cases? Some herds being larger. So, these 9 wolves, hit a herd of...lets call it 20 elk. 9 wolves would get what, maybe 2 or 3? The rest of the herd that got away will be miles from the original hunt. So these 9 wolves would have to then have to catch up, stalk and attack a now spooked herd, to maybe get another 2 or 3? Then repeat. To maybe at best, get 9 or 10. Now we have to look at the hunts. Elk don't just stand there and let a predator kill them off. They run. They keep running when chased. So reasoning would say that the kill spots would be spread over a few miles ( if not more ). Here's the huge thing that made me think this doesn't really seem cohesive. Of all the articles, there's no pics of the 'actual' kill spots. Just one pic of all the elk lines up in a row, did they decide to get all the dead elk from miles around and line 'em up. I am no expert, but this seems off to me. Another funny this was this: http://www.thewildlifenews.com/2012/09/04/wyoming-elk-herds-have-grown-too-large/ That was in 2012. Seems there might be a rift in how some view it. Conflict of interest so to speak. -
Live web cam feeds? You know where this will end up..........

Wolves kill 7 percent of elk in western state Wyoming

Funny, Paula posted about this a day before this thread and no had a word to say. http://huntingny.com/forums/topic/32216-wolf-pack-kills-elk/ -
Spin it any way you want. The bottom line is not allowing a crossbow in the archery season is just more proof that too many bow hunters have tunnel vision and really don't care about promoting hunting. Enjoy the thread. I really was looking forward to someone explaining the truth about why you are against full inclusion for crossbows. But it's clear, there is no factual base, just opinions and personal choice.
-
That's a good point.
-
You are correct about the poaching. It was trespassing. I do apologize. My reading comprehension is just fine. I get the point you are making, so does everyone else. Did you read what you posted? Sure seems like you said crossbow hunters were bozo's.
-
Never heard about the peepers thing. Thunder-storms are awesome. Not just for bullheads.
-
So, all crossbow hunters are bozo's? I am sure they will feel good about that assessment. Poaching, it always comes back to that. It doesn't have a pile of beans to do with allowing full inclusion for the crossbow in archery season. Poachers will do what they do no matter the weapon or time of year. What's the real gripe about allowing full inclusion of the crossbow? I was also referring to the hunters ( especially bow hunters ) who complain about other people hunting or hiking on public land. Why not just be honest? Most archery hunters just don't want to share the woods. Read the threads around here. It's pretty evident. I never want to see air guns or muzzle loaders in the bow season, but saying a crossbow isn't welcome is just being selfish. Like I said, some pretend to promote hunting, but on their terms.
-
Oh for crying out loud! ( Pun INTENDED! ) Is there anything bow hunters will allow in their season? I mean seriously, what's the major argument for not allowing the crossbow during the full archery season? Like people stated, it has limbs, it has a string, you use an arrow ( a bolt is just a fancy way to say really short arrow ), the string is pulled back compressing the limbs, when shot the limbs expand forcing the string forward, hence propelling the arrow. Sounds like a bow to me. As for hunting pressure.............Seriously? What's the difference between 100 people buying a long bow, compound, or a crossbow to hunt in your area? There isn't any! We say we want to promote hunting, but yet, most people who hunt public land think they own it and don't want anyone else in there. I see no reason not to allow full inclusion, even in the areas they left out for now.

We used to really like going at night. Had a couple spots on state land with ponds full of them. Me and a couple buddies would leave Saturday afternoon, make a small camp near one of the ponds and fish most of the night. It was good times. Couple poles in the water a few beers and life was great. They sure made a great breakfast! Not many made it home. LOL I prefer them just pan fried with nothing on them, but I have been known to use cornmeal on them.

Break from cooking tonight. Buffalo Wild Wings. I got the mango habanero, the g/f went with honey mustard. A side of onion rings to share.
