I’m getting there , I found my old age creeping in and I’m really not that old last Sunday after sitting in the stand for a few hrs, I decided to draw my bow sitting down. ( I prefer to not stand to reduce my movement ) And had a twinge in my lower back , I’m at 65 lbs still and I can draw it so easily , had zero problems in the warm weather shooting from a stool in practice . But at this weight my lower back doesn't like it when I get cold . Drs say I’ve got degenerative discs severe arthritis etc in it , so I’m dropping down to 55lbs after the season. Also think I’m going to have the wife sew in some pockets on my base layers lower back area so I can slip some hot hands in to keep my lower back warm . And as others have said drop down to 40 if you have to, my wife has hunted with a 38lb draw bow since she started . She stays at 20 yards and down and I have her shooting a slim diameter arrow with a 75 grain brass insert, a 100 grain head, with feathers for a total arrow weight of 410 grains . Her last deer she shot was quartering away at 12 yards and it went in between the last 2 ribs and the off side shoulder stoped the arrow .

You are a deer killing machine.

I think this archer phantom knows is going a bit too extreme , and it’s entirely possible he’s a terrible hunter and that’s why he gave it up . But some of what was posted makes sense. Yes it’s not hard shooting a bow when we’re standing in our yard or at a shop shooting it’s optimal conditions - stance, etc is all correct . In a stand your maybe crouching a bit to shoot under a branch , you’re feet are no where’s near set right , your twisting a bit at the waist around your tree. Practicing these positions from a tree stand or elevated position is very important to see what affects it has on one’s shot . Every time I hear about someone saying their shot was high out of a tree stand the first thing I think of is did they drop their arm instead of bending at the waist. We are all prone to making mistakes at the heat of the moment , but if we practice in these weird positions it would help decrease those bad shots. And as for the 10 yards and down comment yeah a bit extreme .

My comment was not meant to be derogatory, yes stuff happens especially with archer equipment. Hence why archers need to be a bit more selective with how they pick that shot . I’ve passed up countless deer because they did not give a good archery kill shot. Now having said that , I’ve lost 2 deer in all my years hunting and it sucks no doubt. We all get excited and that’s the best part, but us archers owe it to the deer we hunt to try and make the very best quick kill shot we can. I am genuinely surprised that some are taking these marginal shots.

I was thinking the exact same thing, I’ve been a little surprised on how many guys have said they’ve taken this shot on here and archeytalk so far this year .

That’s why we do it …

From what I understand on the NAP crossbow heads is the retention clips that hold the blades closed are a tighter fit vs a compound bow head . So it will most likely take a bit more energy to open . I shot the old school American made spitfires for many years and loved them. I guess the new heads are made over seas and not as good now ( not bashing just passing it along ) .

Good dad for hopping to the rescue , see what I did there

I suck at sharpening , but having said that I’m thinking about buying a stay sharp kit. The QAD exodus heads I’m shooting now are very sharp out of the box though .

Another vote for Falken wild peak AT3 ‘s.I have a 31 mile trip to work and I have to go in to plow , and driving in at 1:30-2 in the morning on half plowed roads they have impressed me. As for mud I’ve been on some muddy tired up back roads and they did well . The AT3’s are snow rated with the 3 peak rating . https://www.falkentire.com/tires/light-truck-suv-cuv-tires/wildpeaka/t3w-tire

It’s a cinder block garage that my wife parks her car in so it’s same or close to outside temps.

We have a chest freezer we bought back in the 90’s and it’s been in our unheated garage for several years with zero problems .
