Corona Virus Thread
grampy replied to Al Bundy's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Moving the virus around from hot spots, to not spots is a dumb idea. And if I should get the virus, last thing I'd want is to be moved a hundred or more miles away from my family. Even though I'd be quarantined, I'd still feel better knowing they were close. -
Happy Birthday!!!!

Minimum age is 12 for Jr Hunter for turkeys.
-
Are they a foster type slug? Or a sabot type? Back before 4H became a rifle WMU. We killed a whole lot of deer with the Remington Copper Sabots, out of our Ithaca Deerslayer II shotguns. An accurate and deadly combination.

Hate to see that. Hope all those fine back strap cutlets don't go to waste!

Well, I was called to go back to work on a "half day, limited basis ". No close interaction with colleagues. Only a small fraction of staff allowed to be there at any one time. Will be doing information packets to send out district wide. Will also finish up some projects that were already started. Cuomo has just now given all schools to April 15th to be off. -
Kinda tired of the doom gloom, photo my son and fellow RN’s sent out

People like your son are the true heroes in all of this mess. God bless him! And all the medical responders who are laying it on the line. -
Nice ones!

Looks sweet!!! Bet it's going to be a sweet shooter too! I like the looks of the side charge also. If you don't mind me asking. What was the total cost of this build?

Probably need to replace the tippet. Main line should be OK. Cabelas\ BasPro should have what ya need. I order from Orvis, when I don't get over to Manchester VT. I love their stuff. Even though I suck at fly fishing!

That makes too much sense to happen in NY! Jr. hunters at the ages of 14 and 15 can be close to their licensed mentors, to hunt big game here now. There is no hunting course out there, that will ever come close to a good mentor!

Natalies First shots with a rifle at 100yds
grampy replied to moog5050's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
She's a chip off the ol' block! Nice shooting young lady! Natalie will be successfully hunting soon enough. So make sure you set some funds aside for all the taxidermy work she'll need done! That 204 is no doubt a sweet gun!!! -
Happy Birthday my friend! Hopefully those Toga bass will be waiting for us this summer!

That's it Bob. Heck, I'm still learning myself! And have learned much from many of you! And add to my learning almost every time I go afield! At this time, in NYS, right or wrong, a new hunter has to take the eight hour course, after doing the online homework. Do I feel that a modernization, of an online course could be used? Due to long wait lines, farther travel, and ease of use? YES! By all means, make it easier and more convenient. As other states have successfully done. But currently that is not the law here in NYS. So I do what I can now to help, any way possible, to get more hunters and shooters into our ranks. That's what my only motivation is. My having to go through the long process to be certified to do so, was just a way for me to contribute. When my grandson took the course, I was told that the number of instructors was dwindling, due to aging, and not enough young people coming in to get certified. Sound familiar? So I asked what I could do to help? Become an instructor I was told. I thought perhaps I could be a decent one, given my experience of years in the field without hurting anyone? Not like the egotistical SOB I took my bow course through, and even some current instructors! Who mostly bragged of his "accomplishments" and "superior" woodsmanship. The worst thing I could possibly do, is to come across like that. As that would surely crush any credibility I may or may not have. Just thought perhaps I could share with a beginner, some of the little helpful things, that may not be learned from a book? Like what does the fingers in a drop of deer blood tell you? Or the most comfortable way to safely carry a long gun in the crook of your elbow. Things that a beginner, with no mentor may not know? I don't have all the answers, as to if an online course is better or worse. I'm just an older guy, trying to help where I can, given the current NYS hunting laws. That being said, I do try to give each and every class, at least one thing to take home, that they may not find in a book. If I do that, then perhaps the circle for me closes just a bit more. I would like to add, that under the current circumstances, if a young hunter wants to get out there and hunt with their mentor. I feel they should be given the opportunity. With just the online portion of instruction. But I don't see that happening...... yet.

+1 He's looking to be the Democratic Poster Boy in 2024. To be able say, during the crisis, I was on the front lines in NY! Though I do believe he is trying to make the best of a bad situation. Seeing what he's done to stomp on our rights, behind closed doors, in the middle of the night. Will never get him a vote from me. But many have already bought in to his smoke and mirror show for years. And will continue to do so.

Corona Virus Thread
grampy replied to Al Bundy's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
My15 year old grandson is a member here, and does scan the hot topics occasionally. And I know he's seen it. Also, I'm sure that he's seen much more, from other places on the net. So I imagine there would be other minors seeing it too? We can never assume who is, or is not, reading what we post here. Is that picture something a father would show his daughter or young son? I don't think so. I do have a strong sense of humor I think? Ask most anyone I've met from here. But I just don't find any humor in that picture, with any attachment caption?? We are all different, I get that! And what one finds funny, another may find distasteful, as is the case here. So why would someone knowingly keep posting a picture, or anything, that they know other members find distasteful? Just because they can? Even though it is knowingly against this forums rules? I just don't come to this forum to have dongs shoved in my face!!!! ( See what I did there? I do have a sense of humor) You are a very intelligent, and resourceful member, that I enjoy sharing with here. But I really don't care to share dong pic humor with ya. Sorry. But do ya have any trail cam pic's??? I think the COVID19 uncertainties, and being closed in is getting to us all. -

I grow mine in November. But have been very lax with the razor lately too! Keep it going for face camo, for those spring gobblers Jay! Not much gray yet. You're still a young un! And you've done well to keep so much hair pilgrim! -
I look forward to meeting you and your son at our next scheduled class Bill. I totally understand, how this is effecting some young hunters who were looking forward to tagging their first spring gobbler. We are already discussing making up this class, as soon as we are allowed to do so.

I don't consider myself a prude at all. And I enjoy an off color joke as much as anyone. But I feel that picture does not belong here fella's. It just doesn't go with a hunting and fishing forum that young people look at too! I personally dont find the picture all that funny, or appealing. But apparently some of ya do? C'mon guys.- 4810 replies

We got about 7 or 8 inches of wet heavy snow. Melting off the trees in big glops now. Heading out to get it cleaned up. Happy to have something to do!

I use the Hornady One Shot lube, and it works great for me. I don't have a lube pad, so I just spray a clean shop towel with the lube, and roll the cases on that. Haven't had a case stick in the die yet. But I'm a relative new comer to reloading.

Cynthia scores!!!! Way to go girl! Looks like a nice crossbow! They are fun to shoot.
