  1. That will be so cool! Make some memories out there with your two favorite girls!! Have fun, and good luck my friend!
  2. Got family things today and tomorrow. Will clean, organize and put away hunting gear too. If we get the nearly two feet of wet, heavy snow they are forcasting, that will put an end to the season for us. Being tagged out, I could only use a landowners DMP anyways. With two bucks in the freezer, don't need anymore meat. And my grandson is only a maybe, as far as next Saturday morning. So at this point, 2019 looks like a wrap! So many good memories from this season though. From bowhunting with Moog and Carver, and my hunting partner shooting a great WNY buck. To coming within a whisker of my grandson getting a shot at a true giant yesterday. A great year to remember! On to some predator hunting after the holidays!
  3. We called it a day, and we're home. With the heavy snow coming we pulled three blinds after our hunt. Grandson came within a couple seconds of shooting a giant buck! He was running some doe's around. We'd see bits and pieces of him but no shots. And at one point he stood at the top of the bank, at just over 200 yards. Zach was on him good, but there was no back drop behind him, and I called off the shot. He then ran to the left of the cut. A few minutes later, more doe's came from that same area! And then here he comes, over the bank heading straight towards us at the same place I shot my buck at about 175 yards!!! Told Zach to get on him! Get the safety off! And just as I heard the safety click off, I gave a loud Baaa! He then turned immediately to our right and was gone to the other side of the cut...... CRAP!!! Not sure he even heard me as the buck was chasing a doe. Hung in there for almost two more hours......nothing. Zach was pretty cold at that point, and so was I. And he really showed his toughness, hanging in as long as he did! He also had plans for the afternoon anyways. But we did see deer! And he at least got to see the biggest buck he's ever seen! Just two more seconds and perhaps he would have got a real close look at him........from the ground???? We'll never know. Plan to try again next weekend. Great hunt with a great kid!
  4. Seen 10 deer including a BIG buck. Couldn't get on him fast enough before he was gone. We are both cold. Gonna pull out soon to warm up..
  5. We're here, waiting on the deer! Real quiet so far. Cold and a pretty stiff NW wind.
  6. Thanks Paul. Going to have him use my 270 Sako, bought from moog. There is magic in that gun!
  7. My 15 year old grandson has never killed a buck. Going out with him this morning to hopefully change his status?? Going to the same spot that luckily got me off this list? Hope it works. Have seen deer there most every time I sat in that blind this year. We'll give it a go. Wishing every hunter on this thread the very best of luck! It only takes a couple seconds to turn your season around! Get out and send it!
  8. Heading out with my 15 year old grandson this morning!!! Hope we see something? Good luck to all going out!
  9. Baby Biz predicted his dad would shoot that nice eight point the day before! With five pee's and three poop's! Been a on a roll ever since.
  10. Gotta say, DA Bills are looking pretty good this year! Good for them and their fans. Keep it rolling!
  11. Making memories is what it's all about! Congratulations! And the buck is pretty sweet too!
  12. To simplify deer hunting, deer need two basic things.....food and cover. No matter where they live. Narrow down where they bed. Narrow down what they are feeding on (close to where they are bedding) and set up in between the two. If need be Google what deer eat. It can vary greatly from area to area, depending what is available. Once you learn what deer eat and where, the puzzle will become easier to solve. Bedding, when human pressure is involved, (like gun season) is usually the thickest, nastiest, most impenetrable thickets on the property. Set up down wind of these areas. Try to sit as still as possible. Turn your head slowly, as you scan with your eyes. Move in slow motion when you do move on stand. Deer are very good at picking out motion. And as some have said, public land is tough to hunt! It will take patience and dedication to detail to be consistently successful hunting there. But it CAN be done! Learn something with every trip afield! Soon, it all starts to come together. It's not as complicated as it seems at first. My public land bucks are definitely my most prized ones. They will be for you too. Hang in there. It will happen.
  13. Best of luck to all you guys and gals out there hunting! Wish I could be sitting next to each and every one of ya!
  14. Wishing you all a reflevtive, warm and thoughtful Thanksgiving. Enjoy the day with family and friends. The bounty we have received, is much to be thankful for. And go ahead. Have that second piece of pie!!
  15. I've never blocked anyone. But I can choose to ignore.
  16. This is the second year for my Woody Sportsman. And still going strong. I love them! Have worn them for most every hunt this year, even the single digit temp hunts. And stayed comfortable. I'd buy another pair in a heartbeat!
  17. If you can swing it, go to an even $7000.00. that will perhaps motivate the town board to go in your favor? At the least go with the full assessment value. As you really would like to have the property. Someday, if you decide to sell, you'll still be able to recoup your full investment and possibly more. Hope it all works out for you!
  18. A few bucks shot. Some nice fat doe's shot. Some beautiful pic's from the woods. Then the "storm" rolled in and clouded everything up for a bit. And now everyone seems to be ignoring the "storm", so it's clearing up nicely again! Forecast is "storm" free, so all is good! Get out and hunt!
  19. High in the morning. Low in the afternoon. You got any oaks on that side hill? If so, a bench or flat spot about three quarters of the way up, would be perfect. Good luck.
  20. You're a trained professional Larry! Come on man! Should've just used a little spit and the sleeve of your jacket.
  21. Perhaps a moderator can help you??? I hope so! You're a great guy!
  22. Can't believe someone doesn't know of a young hunter, that can take advantage of Charlie's generosity?
  23. There is less and less human interaction now, just from the time I was a kid. We now communicate with devices, and do not touch each other. Kinda sad I think. Now everyone is considered a weirdo if they touch someone else. I get it though. I'm employed by a public school district. And we have all sorts of mandatory training, for how to act appropriately with students and other staff members. And any kind of touching could be conceived, potentially as sexual harassment, or unwanted. And is discouraged. I have wonderful female colleagues that I've worked with for 15 years, and we will high five, or fist bump, to thank or encourage each other. But that's it in a professional environment. Not worth taking a chance of anything being taken the wrong way. And that's especially with a student. Funny though when I was in school, the shop teacher would mess up our hair and call us boneheads. We loved him. The math teacher would come to your desk, put an arm over your shoulder, and help explain how to get the right numbers. We all loved her. The principal had a wooden paddle for those who occasionally, like me, misbehaved. I deserved it. We respected him. No such thing anymore. For good or bad.
  24. Dick ticks are bad! Always helps to have a dick tick picker, to remedy the situation!
