Up in the hills where I live, usually we get clobbered with snow. But this storm, barely an inch. My grandsons are a little ticked because they were "gypped" out of a snow day! lol........

That's what it's all about! A sportsman helping a younger sportsman getting started. We were all there once ourselves, in the beginning of our own hunting careers. Very commendable phade!

Some knives I put together
grampy replied to sampotter's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
Nothing means more than a gift that was made by the givers own hands. Great job on some beautiful knives. I'm certain they will be cherished for a lifetime. -
Congratulations Grandma ! Perhaps a new hunting partner down the road !

Have already heard some news outlets calling this storm "Historic" and "Worst Storm Ever" for coastal areas before the first flake even falls. My opinion is that the hype will be far worse far than the storm itself. Oh,by the way,King Cuomo said it's ok to stay home from work!

Feedback on Marlin X7 vs Ruger American Rifles
grampy replied to hunter's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
The Ruger American is a good choice. Happy new gun day! I really like the 7mm-08, only it's a bit hard finding ammo in some places. Our local dicks and walmart don't even stock 7mm-08, witch I think is strange considering the popularity of this cartridge these days. What round are you looking to shoot with yours? -
Nice job and way to go! Not much beats spending time afield with family and friends. And the eats aint bad either! Congrats!

OK, went to my local gun shop today. I've known and done business with him for over 35 years, and he is a stand up no b.s. kinda guy. Told me that he has heard of the bore snake getting stuck but he has never actually seen it happen himself. Also he thinks the ones getting stuck may have been to big or wrong size for the bore being used. Anyway, he had one there that fit my 7mm-08. It also fits 270, 7mm, 284, and 280 caliber. He also showed me how to use it in my gun. So I bought it for $14.95. I'm very happy with the job it did on my gun! Quick, easy and very clean afterwards. I'll still use my coated rod when I have time and want to baby and thoroughly clean the gun. But for a quick clean up after shooting before it goes back in the case you can't beat the bore snake.

Thanks for the tip Lawdwaz. I did google it and it would be a nightmare to get one stuck but have heard way more good than bad reviews. Going to my local gunshop today to get his take as well. Have not found one for 7mm-08. Would a 270 cal. bore snake work for the 7mm-08? Thanks again to all who gave advise on this thread.

Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver Arrested.
grampy replied to grampy's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I'm not sure of this so correct me if I'm wrong. But wasn't Silver one of the people involved in the back room, middle of the night passing of the Safe Act? -
Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver Arrested.

I'm sure there are more than a couple nervous people in the state capitol at this time. -
Congrats on your improvement grow! If you keep it up,this hunting season, you will be running through the woods like a deer and climbing trees like a squirrel.

I am diabetic and suffer from cold fingers and toes when temps get below freezing. So I buy my hunting boots size 13 (I wear size 11and a half) use two pair of a good quality marino wool socks. I use the toastie toes brand of stick on warmers on the bottom of my toes over the socks. Then use 2000 gr. thinsalate and gortex rocky boots. Unless it's below -0 this set up will be good for me up to about four hours or so just sitting or all day if I'm moving around a bit.

Welcome, and look forward to hearing from you!

For sure,a good shooter still shoots well even with a lower end gun. And a poor shooter still can't hit squat, even with a high dollar gun!

Thanks for all the great info and comments! I'll buy one to use in between shot groups at the range. And I'll keep one in my hunting pack in case of obstruction. Sounds like it will be a good tool to use along with the traditional rod, brush and patch.

I'm thinking about picking one of these up for my 7mm-08. Anyone using them? Happy or unhappy with the results? Does it replace cleaning with a rod? Thanks for any advice guys.
