  1. I barely saw in person. I was too busy trying to get a pic. He may be a 12. Hard to see.
  2. Been driving around a few times a week recently just relaxing and looking for bucks. Went with a buddy yesterday and he took some roads I've never been on before. We weren't seeing much and then we saw this guy, bedded in grass 20 yds off the road. After yelling a string of obscenities, I popped a few pics before he bounced away without looking back. This is the nicest buck I have ever seen, especially so close. He's a 10 with split brow, good mass and nice tine length that will only keep growing. Saw another couple bucks after this but it was too dark to photograph at that point. I have a letter in the mail seeing if I can hunt this property. Fingers crossed but I'm sure the answer will be no. What's he score? I'm going to frame this one for sure.
  3. Yes I've picked and eaten chicken mushrooms a few times and that's what I thought this was until I got closer to it. But, I'm in a different county so not sure if they can vary?
  4. Anyone know what these are? They look like chicken of the wood but a little different than the chickens i've picked and eaten.
  5. Anyone have luck with morels? I found 2. Both alone, no others around. Weird season.
  6. Ramps are up. I'll pick some this weekend. Looked for morels quick at one of my spots and didn't see any. Next few weeks should be good.
  7. I went with a buddy about 2 months ago and didn't find anything. Going to give it another go on Sunday. We usually find the thickest place on the property and find the trails going in and out of it.
  8. Really excited. Should be finding them in about 4 weeks.

    Bullheads ?

How do you guys usually cook bullheads? I catch them a lot during the summer and usually toss them back. I ate one once and getting the skin off was a pita and the meat was ok but I don't think I hooked it well. I wrapped in tin foil and put in fire.
  10. Forgot to update this. The landowner called me during the summer after I left a note on his gate. He was nice and said he understands my struggle and appreciates the note but he is a hunter and wants to get his son into hunting so unfortunately, I cannot hunt there anymore. He told me I can take my time and get my stands out of there which I did. I told him I would send him trail cam pics if he wanted them so I send him the best ones I got off the property and he was happy. I just told him that he has a beautiful chunk of land and I wish him well and that's it I guess. Still haven't found another property so I have to keep looking.
  11. Ride bikes. We used to build ramps out of scrap wood and jump them with our bikes. Used to build forts out of scrap wood we found. Just kept adding on and on higher up the free until a few years went by and the tree died. My next door neighbor and best friend lived on a far and we used to get the roosters and turkeys riled up until they would chase us, then we'd run and hide from them. We used to play fight a lot, shoot out bows, have fights with horsepoop (pretending they were bombs and throw them at each other), play paintball. Then in my early teens we all started playing interments and formed rock bands. Childhood was great.
  12. Hey guys, who is excited about morels? They should be coming up soon! They're saying it should be a good year for them. I'll be checking in a few weeks when I go to check the leeks.
  13. Giving up beer/alcohol for 1 month. I never get out of control with it but have 1 or 2 per night most nights and it's a drain on the wallet and would like to drop a few pounds so I'll quit for a while. I do this once or twice a year usually and it feels good not to have it, plus, beer tastes amazing when you don't have it for a while, much more enjoyable.
  14. Saw 3 bucks today with 4 does when I pulled up to a job in Westchester. It was a thin racked 6, a 4pt and a spike I think. Surprised they still had their racks.
  15. Lets dispense with the notion that Barack Obama doesn't know what he's doing.........he knows exactly what he's doing!
  16. I keep the heart usually. Slice it thin, cover in flour/pepper/salt/paprika and pan fry. I really enjoy it. I don't keep the liver but I should try it once.
  17. Best beer experiences I've ever had: Pint of Guinness at the factory in Dublin. Amazing taste and awesome view. Also, drinking Killkenny red stout also in Dublin. I really wish places would import this beer. It looks and feels like a Guinness except it's deep red color. Taste is creamy and tastes like a mix between Guinness and red ale. I found one place in NYC that has it on tap for $8. I try to grab a pint even I am down there.
  18. Do your own. I just started. A lot of fun and very satisfying. I did spicy italian first and then I did spicy slovak/hungarian type last weekend. Turned out great.
  19. I like shooting nice bucks. Size doesn't matter to me as much as the story of the hunt.
  20. Under 75% of stands I find, there are buck bomb cans/beer bottles or soda and water bottles underneath.

    Tag soup

I had such a great season so far. Deer in bow range every time I went out. I wish I had more doe tags, has easy shots on probably a dozen adult does so far, took 2 with the bow. Saw a few monster bucks in bow range but the shot just didn't work out.
  22. I either grind it or use it when i make gulas.
  23. I don't bring any survival stuff really. Everywhere I hunt I know well or I can hear the road so I'd know where to go if I got lost.
  24. I have no problem keeping my body warm. Just a merino wool base with 4 layers on top, 2 layers on legs. I use merino wool heavy socks and just bought some head Irish Setter boots. Have not been cold on stand yet.
