  1. My BAR shoots 1.5" +/-. I've got the lightweight stalker model so weight is quite pleasant. It's no sniper rifle but I've never had a deer live to complain about it. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  2. I've had great luck so far with the stealthcam P12's. You can get a 2 pack for $120 right now. They take awesome pics too. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  3. See you in 4 years little fella... Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  4. Gut shots are almost certain death, with time. If he wasn't pushed he probably wouldn't have went more than 200 yds before he bedded. Goldenrod would be exactly the type of place a gut shot deer would look to bed in. My bet is if you hit this deer in the stomach he is dead within 300 yds of your stand. Don't only look in the direction he went, deer do weird things when wounded, circling, 90° turns for seemingly no reason, try looking where you wouldn't expect him to go too, I've found deer that did everything you wouldn't expect. It sucks but the only thing you have to lose now is time, you won't regret going back out one more time looking back from the future. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  5. It's in unit 7M. It is in an agricultural type area but it's thousands of acres of state land in blocks in several areas of this unit. This piece doesn't get hunted too hard during archery if you're willing to travel more than 1/2 mile from your vehicle. I hate to say it but most hunters are lazy, this spot is just under 1 mile from the truck. I've run cameras closer to the Rd and only get smaller bucks and does, if I put the camera deeper than the average guy goes I get some good bucks. There's great deer to be had on public land, they just don't come easy. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  6. Thanks guys, I would never stop smiling if I were able to put a tag on him, but some sick, twisted train of thought I am kind of hoping he makes it another year, could he have more potential? Will he be the same with more stickers? And if you want any deer spreading genes around it would be him. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  7. A few pics from the card I pulled today, all state land. These are only a couple of the 1100 pictures i got on the 2 cams. Enjoy!
  8. Just saw the first deer of the day. Followed by a house cat... And I'm a good mile from the nearest house Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  9. My spot is tore up with tracks, nothing this morning decided to donate itself to my freezer. I did pull my card under it and I've had a lot of action the past 3 weeks. Several bucks just started popping up the last 7 days, including the 12pt. I'll post up some pics later. Back to the tree... Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  10. That is huge bodied buck! I'd love to shoot that thing! Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  11. If those are mature deer racks then I've shot a lot of mature deer! Here's a pic of my fully mature 2.5 yr old buck from last year, state land in unit 7M. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  12. Back in the tree until dark. Pulled a cam on a scrape this morning and there has been 5 different bucks on it the last 2 days. Yesterday a couple visited during broad daylight, hoping they are on their feet with the cold front pushing in. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  13. Nothing in those photos (hang em high) looked "mature" to me, the bottom line is you belittled someone for shooting a year and a half old deer when you clearly do the same. Does it make a difference if that 1.5yr old has 2 or 6 points? Nope, still not mature. If you consider a 2.5 yr old buck mature then you know about as much as I figured you did. You talked a big game and I truly was expecting better "quality" deer in your pictures due to your devotion to "big" bucks, maybe next time you should watch what you say until you have something to back it up. Noone is saying you can't have your opinion on shooting deer, (although yours contradicts itself completely), it's when you try to tarnish someone else's accomplishments because they aren't up to your standards. (There are several other words that come to mind for that but we'll keep it respectful since you're so easily offended all of a sudden.) Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  14. As long as they want/need to, but from deer I've watched from a stand they bed for a short time (30mins-2hours) then they'll get up walk a step or two and urinate/defecate, nibble on some nearby browse and lay back down. I've watched them repeat this over and over again throughout the day, but never travel outside a 30 yd circumference, so they will get up but may not really go anywhere. I love watching deer do this, watching them bedded and watching/smelling for danger in a relaxed state is really cool. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  15. If this guy (hang em high) is shooting 6 points then he isn't killing mature deer, anyone trying to kill mature deer doesn't look for a set amount of points, they judge from the body characteristics. He's just another keyboard commando who watches too much Drury Brothers on tv... I too can kill 6 pts every year on state land, I typically choose not to as I would like to cross paths with them again in the future, but I also don't belittle guys who are happy with said buck. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  16. Why don't you give all of us fawn killers an idea of what a "mature" deer is to you... Oh and feel free to show us pics of all of these mature deer you've harvested. I too hunt and run a lot of cameras on state land in 7F, 6K, 7M and 7A and I can tell you if you're waiting for only "mature" bucks then you'll be going seasons without deer often. Hell I consider a "mature" deer 4yrs + and I get few and far between on cameras, some years none, and I run 5 cameras year round... Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  17. I will not shoot fawns, anything else can be fair game depending on how my season goes. Typically I let does with fawns go, I let many young bucks go but the last 10 days or so of archery the gloves come off, I'll kill a 1.5yr old buck if I haven't gotten at least 2 deer yet. If I get 2 deer, I get pickier the rest of the season. Although I have had instances where everything just feels right and I'll dump a 1.5yr old buck. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  18. It is a good show, I have only a few hunting shows I watch anymore, this being one of them. Too many manicured divas (male and female) trying to push sales on most of them. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  19. I've owned 2 TC prohunters, one in 7mm mag and another in 7mm-08 and neither one shot worth a damn. 2-3" groups were good groups out of both of mine, that's with spending a couple hundred on ammo trying to find a sweet spot, never did. I wanted so bad to like these rifles but the accuracy was terrible, I won't try a third time. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  20. I think it very much depends on where you are and what the deer ratio is like. I have a camera right now where there have been 7 bucks on the cam since September and yet not a single rub or scrape that I've found. On the other hand I have a different camera 35 miles away with 4 bucks and the woods are torn up with rubs/scrapes... I don't rely heavily on buck sign. It can be very deceiving how many bucks are around yet a lack of sign. Every area I hunt seems different in this regard... Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  21. No you aren't. It's people like this that knowingly poach animals that should see heavy fines and loss of license for at least a few seasons. Everyone has done something illegal while hunting, whether knowingly or not... Most of us do it every night hunt, we hunt past "legal" shooting light. Depends on the severity of the infraction if I'll get involved or not. I think you were more than justified in this situation. I wish more people would do the same. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  22. I've got thousands of blackbirds around me... They are amazingly loud... Pretty cool actually. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  23. It's basically north shore Oneida lake and above with a few exceptions obviously. It includes the Adirondacks but extends much further south also Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  24. Crossbow opened in the northern zone Oct. 12 Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
