LIVE from the woods 2016 Edition! - 7th Year, lets make this happen...
chrisw replied to burmjohn's topic in Deer Hunting
I've been in 2 hours now, I'm up to 5,246 squirrels but that's it as of now... Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk -
I just hope they don't ruin Cabela's gear. I'm not a big fan of Bass Pro's hunting gear but I'm a big fan of Cabela's. As long as they don't start slapping Cabela's logo on their stuff I'm fine with it. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

Yea, Just the one night so far. But I'm hoping he'll come back, it's a spot I won't hunt until late October/early November. It's always tore up with rubs and scrapes. And when I say rubs they are close to telephone pole in size. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

I'm glad I wasn't the only one. I shot 2 deer with montec's and zero blood trail with perfect hits. Both deer went 60 yds or less but no blood is a no go for me. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

You can't exchange it after you get it. You have to apply for the areas you want so you won't be given an area you can't hunt unless you choose it. You can however get 2 additional DMP's signed over to you. So if someone is willing to give you or trade tags with you that is an option. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

Yea I was guessing in the 140-150 range myself. He has a small G-5 on his right side also which may or may not be 1". Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

I have been running a lot of trail cams for the past 10-12 years and this is the best buck I've had to date. I hunt all over but only public land. I've had other great bucks but not a deer of this caliber. This summer has been especially slow with big buck sightings at an all time low for me but this guy just made up for it! Any guesses on age/score? Enjoy!

This guy will. Don't pass a deer on the first day you'd kill on the last!
-
Field points. My broadheads will do the same but you'll need new arrows quick. I don't shoot at the same spot under 40yds generally, field points or BH's.

I noticed these pics looked baited when I first looked at them but didn't want to be the first guy to throw the red flag. Busted!

First group today at 50yds. I'm ready...

Cool pics. That is indeed a grey fox

Looks like a good chance he sustained an injury at one time on his "passenger" side. I love freaky racks though

Squirrel quarters and asparagus.

One way or the other the meat has to get processed
chrisw replied to Rockspek's topic in Deer Processing
Like others have said, its not difficult just takes a little practice. I've never taken a deer to be processed, I actually enjoy it as part of the whole experience and i know exactly what I'm getting (my burger isn't a conglomerate of 10 other deer which may have been riding around in a truck for 4 days). Also I didn't see anyone mention it but cutting your steaks against/across the grain will make a big difference in how tough the meat is. All that I use is a Kershaw Pro fillet knife (I only use one knife for the whole deer) a vacuum sealer, grinder, a scale for weighing out my burger, and a jerky cutting board. Oh, and a 12 pack and a radio is essential also. -
My first group of the day. 60 yards. Some days you're just on the money...
