I am probably getting Sitka gear. Wasn't really interested in it due to price, but my hunting clothing is ready for a changeout. Also likely getting a predator camo hoodie for bumming around and checking trail cams, scouting, prep work, etc.

Not really sure if I will go out for MZ. About the only thing that would get me out is if we got some snow to make it interesting in the doe only area. This weekend is it for me.

Killed 5 miles away. That is alot of asskicking.

According to the Comptroller NY has some pretty big shoulders when it comes to hunting and fishing expenditures. And most stakeholders still have issues with the DEC's management of deer as a resource. http://www.osc.state.ny.us/press/releases/dec15/120915.htm?utm_source=twitter.com&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=fiscal+oversight You would think this type of fiscal relationship would lead to better personnel and better management of the resource.

Sorry, it is a FB thing.

https://www.facebook.com/newyorktrailcameras/ Giving away a cam for a lucky youth. If you are the FB type, jump on and submit your kid or pass along to a kid who knows. Only a handful of entries thus far and girls are making quite the showing.

I think most studies show bucks that range go on "forays" that last 48-72 hours before returning to their home range/core range. They do it a few times during the Oct-Dec time period. The buck that I had on camera Moog talked about was solid. Beautiful buck, and a few days later that buck was shot busted up (no tines were busted on the pic) 5 miles west, across a major highway.

Nice season for sure. This made me chuckle.

You are getting a lot of flash bounceback from that setup due to the branches above and below. Doesn't look like it impacts the ability to see stuff though.
-
Both cams sold. If anyone wants one, I can place and order for next week arrival.
-
I have two in hand. 190 with SIM. You can refer to my earlier threads. Paypal preferred.

Not for whitetail. It is lower.

It really is overthinking. Buy boxes of the rounds you are interested in, and shoot them. Any empirical or situational evidence (pics of targets from other hunters guns) is pretty useless for you. What the gun throws well to your liking and is made of a competent structure, is what you should go after. People can split atoms when it comes to loads, bonded vs. not, etc. and so on and so forth. Chances are if it hitting the bullseye and grouping well for you over the scenarios you'll be using it, it will kill the deer.

For a buckeye cam price, woof on that lighting. Sweet catch.

Lile a heater body suit.

That is most likely where he is entering field then. I'd probably glass for an evening or two to see if that is the case and then try to ambush him when conditions are right. If there is no pressure there for a few days he might get there early if a front moves in to get them on their feet.
-
Is that field corner between the two lowest blue dots a low spot for the field? If so, that is most likely where he is entering the field in the PM. Thermals dropping will allow him to suck in the air off the field for threats, plus it often gives good sight advantage with potential for quick escape routes.
-
Has the soy bean field been harvested? Will it be? If no, and not for a while....I'd lay back and glass the field from afar in the PM for a few nights to peg his potential bedding and travel paths. A late season soy bean field that has not been harvested....is a gold mine.
-
Grow no offense on this, but I know I have more cameras than you, and trust me when I say this...cams don't catch the whole story. I've seen it too many times with my own eyes.
-
So what you are saying is that you're willing to smell like a dump as long as you can hunt deer...

The only thing that has ever worked for me is my IWOM. Its amazing.

Many states, some of the best for whitetail hunting, have firearms seasons well after the rut. This season's opening date wasn't arbitrary, its just the calendar layout for the same opening date formula that has been used since we moved to Saturday opener (and even before with the Monday opener, just switch to the Saturday logic).

She will. High 90s% of does in NYS are successfully bred according to the DEC. A small portion are does that don't take the first time around, but the biggest chunk are fawns that hit the necessary weight to reproduce. You see this most often in areas where there are heavy ag in regions 7,8, and 9. Birthdate and quality habitat/food resources really help make this happen.

In 99 of 100 cases, they will refer you to the legal representation for the town or county. And, in 98 of 99 cases, that legal representative will realize there is nothing clearly stating hunting is not allowed when all other laws/regs are followed, but denies permission to hunt because of ignorance. I literally had a county attorney tell me he didn't know the answer after looking into it, especially when I noted that the village's books didn't outlaw discharges (oversight on their part). Next year, their books were amended accordingly. He advised me off the record to only bowhunt it that year before the law changed just to avoid any issues if someone complained about a firearms discharge. He didn't see me breaking any law but said that it would just "raise a big stink." Nobody wants that. It is amazing to me the vast swaths of town or county owned lands that are locked up and unable to be hunted legally or made available to the common knowledge of hunters. Some of these towns and villages have hundreds or thousands of acres locked up in small 5, 10, 15 acres lots. They just sit there, idle.

Did this guy hunt? Sure doesn't sound like it. Was he one of the ones who didn't "feel" like going out? If so, his problem he notes - is partially his fault. Nobody is out hunting deer or seeing anything! But don't ask me if I went out...because I didn't.
