A few arrows daily and try to pick it up during the season, making shots more realistic, so I'll shoot with hunting garb on, from sitting, bending, twisting, off my roof ect.

58 lbs on my 13 year old Parker bow. It's been a good setup.

Great question Growie, I'm hoping for good weather on the days I have off to hunt, so I can just enjoy being out in the woods away from it all and reconnect with the magic of the fall. To step foot in the deer woods with a snow covered ground is about as good as it gets in life. Being able to see the tracks that tell the story of what passed by adds volumes to the game in our heads and the deer's brown doesn't blend in so well, so sightings go up too. Sharing some hunts with good friends and being there to help with getting the deer out are things I look forward to as well. It would be great to just see a giant buck or a black bear while on stand, and having one show up on a trail cam is always in my hopes too.

A new experience... someone took my trail cam.

Oh it is a pain for sure. I'd much rather have the cam 3 ft up on a tree because the angle on game is much better and it's easy to do, but after losing a few cams on public land the game has changed for me. I use tree steps or take in a few sections of muddy ladder hang on steps. -
Nice job on the video and thanks for sharing! It's almost like being there. How much does the canoe weigh and what kind is it. I want one!

The stink bug population seems to be on the rise here. I went from hardly ever seeing one, to a few here and there. Last year there were quite a few but this year is way worse. When they are inside, grab them with duct tape to avoid the stink. Looks like I'll need to buy a few rolls.

Nice deer and great looking spot. I like an area with high grass/goldenrod where they feel secure and can bed.

I run about 6 cams, and some are out year round. In 7 years or so, I can count on one hand the number of times I get a person on trail cam. -

I've had 4 stolen, all on public land more than a mile off the road, and no where near a trail. I now use python locks, or lock boxes, or both!...... on any cam I put out. I also try to place them up above the line of site (12 ft or so) and point them down, and camo them in with sticks to break up the outline which helps a lot too. I usually don't use the big strap that comes with the cam, as that gives it away from all sides. Don't let the bad apples ruin your pursuit. Instead, adjust the way you place cams out. Make them less conspicuous and lock them in place. Good luck. -
I'm a bit behind this year but will catch up fast and be ready by second weekend of bow.

To go out with a bow and arrow for game without first testing and practicing with the broadhead's that you'll be using, would be a big mistake. We put all that money into our bows and equipment and the time spent preparing to hunt and the end result will come down to one shot. I think most of us learned by reading or hearing from other hunters how broadheads can fly much differently than our field points and clue us in to any tuning or form problems. I shoot muzzy 3 blades and just use the actual head and put one in with my other practice arrows and shoot the blades quite a bit each year before the season to gain confidence. I have an old foam block that I've had for 10 years, but the center is pretty hosed out from broadheads. Last year I bought a yellojacket one at wallmart to test my crossbow broad heads.

The date shows next month, velvet has to be long gone. j/k, nice older buck with good mass. Good luck in Oct.

Nice! If the does are there, then maybe the big one's will pass by your stand during the chase time. Has to be some thick cover in the area where they spend daylight hours.
-
I try to stop them in a shooting lane with a grunt for a bow shot.... like they do on the "Monster Bucks" videos.
-
I get the bow drawn no problem but I'm only pulling 58 lbs. It's all the other mechanics involved that I seem to have problems with during the moment of truth.

I like the versatility of a light hang on, because you can put them in a tree with a lot of branches, like a pine or hemlock tree. You don't need to find a straight tree with few limbs. And tree's with few limbs don't have much cover and I just feel more secure up 20 ft with some branches around me. I have a few light hang on stands that I pack in and place during the season to hunt once or a few times. I do see the advantages of being mobile with a climber though.

State land I go deep, private land you can hunt the downwind side of the doe area's for good action and that may be just inside the fringe, so not deep. I have some pines and brush out behind my house that I leave alone. It's only a couple acres but the does like to bed there. I've had some real nice bucks on cam there in the last few years.

A nice mixture of animals there. Some good bucks roaming by too.

I have a head lamp on a strap that I hold in my hand so it's low to the ground. It's pretty dim for a headlamp and I keep it pointed down in front of my feet as much as possible, just enough to see the trail. I agree that the solar light would be too dim by morning and it the stand is in the woods it may not get enough sun to power it anyways. Happy Birthday bud!

Nice video wooly. How do you get the vid to time lapse like that?

Do you ride your atv to your stand or walk ?
genesee_mohican replied to rob-c's topic in General Hunting
I don't own a large tract of land to hunt, but even if I did, I would still walk to my stand just because I like to enjoy the quiet of the woods and like see the sites in and out of the woods. With that said, some of my stands are 2 miles off the road, and it sure would be nice to take a quad ride at least half way. -
That's a cool rack, i dig the way it curves in. Hope you tag em.
