  1. Too late, I already have a patent on it. It's called the "slam cam". It acts like a normal cam but is equiped with gps, satelite, and laser dot aim... 5 shot crossbow. Somewhere in the future one will be able to buy several such armed cams and place them out in the woods. When a buck passes by the cam will send an alert to the pc that is fused to the owners arm, where they will then see the deer and decide if you want to turn on the shoot feature. Once that is turned on, a red dot appears on the deer's vitals and you simply give the command to 'shoot'.
  2. I would have asked for the name of the person in command and would have ended the conversation, then contacted them.
  3. I've seen some beauties in November that were roaming around between 11am and 2pm. Even on warm days, and my theory on that is they ran hard all night, took a nap around sunup and by mid day had the urge to hound does again. The number of days I can hunt during Nov are limited so I try to put some all day sits in when I can.
  4. A calm frosty morning here in Livingston Co. I sat for an hour before work, saw 2 small bucks and some does in the green field about a half mile away. Beautiful morning out there.
  5. The west 'park' side doesn't open for bow till Oct 17th. I've been in on the east side a few times, but mainly just to hang stands. The usual access points have some hunters but I think the warm temps have most waiting. There are a ton of hickory nuts on the ground, but the deer I've seen were on oak mast, which is light. No real studs on park trail cam pics yet, but I'm sure I'll have a few when I check them again in Nov. I'll start hunting more next weekend, even though forecast calls for highs in the mid 70's. Good luck to everyone hunting the park this fall.
  6. 59 F and rising. Doe w 2 fawns just passed by. I see highs in the mid 70's for next weekend too :-/ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. I just hung the stand tonight. I had a mile hike in with the stand and my pack on my back and it wasn't too bad. I used the chain base that came with the stand. It was fairly easy to pull the stand up and secure it to the receiver and the light weight was definitely a plus. A second ratchet strap at the base secures it snug with no movement. I'm looking forward to using it on a hunt in the next week or two.
  8. 55 here Ahhh to be young again. Just put up another stand and feeling it a bit.
  9. The slim sticks are killer, best I've ever had. All his product is top notch but it get's expensive.
  10. Still mowing and the leaves are only 20% turned here, most still green.
  11. I get pretty comfy at times and am tempted to doze on all day sits. If it's a dead calm day with dry leaves I may close my eyes for a bit, but I usually take a sip of 5 hr energy and stay alert.
  12. Organizing some of my hunt gear in the man cave this am, warm n windy w rain here n there. Good day for puttering and catching some football. Maybe catch the last hour in a stand out back?
  13. Heading out to put up a new stand, not even taking the bow as I have too much to carry already. Light rain and 58 F. The leaves are really going into color fast now so will be enjoying the sites along the way today. Helping a friend put up a stand this afternoon too. Good luck to all this weekend.
  14. I just nap or take a sip of a 5hr NRG drink. I say a sip because it's strong and I don't want be to jittery.
  15. oops sry I didn't see it. I saw a study on deer movements related to weather a few years ago and began thinking about it a lot more. It sure makes sense that bucks, especially the older more shy ones will move more during daylight hours on the days where the weather conditions all come together.
  16. Most working guys have to schedule time off in advance and just stick with those days to hunt even if the weather conditions for deer movement are less than ideal on those days. I can be a little flexible and hope to take a couple days off late Oct or early Nov to catch the best weather days where deer will be most likely to move around all day. Here's a good video on that subject: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lum66f-2aMM
  17. I'm fine with the 2 weeks now but my major wish is that the DEC would allow older hunters or people with issues that no longer allow them to pull back a vertical bow to use a crossbow all bow season. I know a few guys that have such bad shoulder issues that practicing enough with a compound to be accurate is no longer an option, so they wait till the 2 week crossbow season. I also agree with others that the DEC needs to require xbow hunters to take the archery course. I picked up a spypoint crossbow last season and hunted with it a few times. I can say they are accurate, but a good rest is needed and I would say less accurate shooting offhand (for me anyways) than my compound bow. A second shot is about out of the question and seem to be less maneuverable in a tree stand. I found myself sitting there going through all the senerios where deer could approach from and wondered how I'd get a shot off with nothing to rest the thing on.......where I could easily twist and make a shot with a compond bow. They are heavy, less joy to carry and a pain to get up into a tree stand that has any branches. Along with that, most bow shots for my set ups are 30 yards max and branches still deflect bolts so I don't see them as being that big of an advantage and it's cool we have a few weeks for them now.
  18. Thank you all, I had a great day, got out for a hike to pick up a trail cam, had a few cold ones and relaxed with a good dinner at home with my girl. It's been a few years since I got a bow buck so, maybe this year will be my lucky one. Looking forward to cooler temps to arrive next week. It's a great time of year!!
  19. I'd like to go this time, was busy for the maiden voyage. But, isn't it deer season now?
  20. Thanks! It's been a great day so far. I work at home so I shot my bow before work and checked a trail cam out back, beautiful morning. I cooked up some tender venison w eggs and toast for breakfast too. I may head out for a hunt after work, or just do something else fun too. 55 and life is good.
  21. It sounds like the new owner put some effort into making bike trails for people to enjoy. If I was in this situation, I would just move my stands away from the trails and leave it at that. I kind of doubt a guy or gal who doesn't hunt, but just wants to ride a bike through the property once in a while will understand and stop riding there all of deer season. Just my opinion. It's tough when we don't own the property we hunt on, there are usually others using the land too. Adapting to other people becomes part of the plan.
  22. I wouldn't shoot a bear here in Livingston Co. I've seen them a few times and try to get cam photos and video when I can. They are beautiful animals and I'm happy to have them in the area. I'd try to get a picture or some video but wouldn't shoot one and I have no desire to go on a hunt for them.
  23. Around the woodlands and farm country here the deer have so much to eat between acorns, alfalfa and corn fields, apple trees ect, I don't think I'd pull too many deer to a pile of corn. Now I do have a stand near my apple trees but they usually come to visit at night.
