  1. Today I had 4 different locations that I encountered birds. I myself will not stay too long in one spot without hearing or seeing turkeys. I cover a lot of ground, but I will admit to taking up too early and spooking birds that are not vocal. It works for me and there are certainly other methods to employ , hope that helps good luck! 3. First day out for my son and I . Plenty of action could have shot a nice Tom @0730, but was hoping it would walk by my son who was 30 yds away. But you know how that goes. Anyway we had some jakes and hens come in at first light prior to that, then in for a bite and had a big boy come in @ 1030 but couldn't get a clear shot. So he walked off . Great day anyway Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Great job! Legal bird! Enjoy your hunts n get a big gobbler next time. Be safe and good luck! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I have called in birds with as many as 4 hunters in my group. Usually we fan out in a line focusing on where we believe the bird will come from. We have shot 2 birds occasionally this way. I will call and let the young bloods do the shooting. Most times we hunt with 2 guys , and spread out to cover more area. But either way is fine. Just more people means more movement but that's a given. Good luck to all n be safe. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  7. My Dad is 84 n would still bow hunt except his hands can no longer operates a bow. I would love to see him use a crossbow during the warmer weather of early season. He would have no problem taking a doe for the freezer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I primarily hunted the Catkills did not jump very many hares.I would imagine tug hill region would be good, call the DEC for advice . Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I enjoyed hunting cottontails with and without dogs when I was younger. Nothing like a good beagle , what a blast . Fresh air, exercise and some rabbit stew. The rabbits that are run by dogs will head back to where they were jumped. Great fun!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  14. He's just an actor , his opinions and views mean nothing to me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Read book and saw movie , both were good. Movie adds some Hollywood elements not in book. Worth watching, DeCaprio was excellent. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. I have a .300 win mag in browning BAR with a Nikon monarch scope. Use it for deer n bear, shoots very accurate. Very comfortable with it and suits my needs. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Like gun control measures the law abiding will comply the lawless scum will not. Whether or not it's a legal hunting implement or not! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Went on a hunt in Texas a couple of years ago and was one of three hunters and we brought 4 guns. The airlines had used our gun cases as a frisbee and of the four guns all had issues accept my Winchester .223 bolt action. My father ,my son ,and I each shot a whitetail with that gun. No issues and two were one shot kills and one required a finishing shot while it was down. We used standard Winchester factory ammo I believe 55 grain. I wouldn't use a .223 if I had a larger caliber handy but , it will do the job. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Flinched the shot or hit a twig Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Share your pain this year my Giants got eliminated last night with Redskin win. Like to see a team win that never won a super bowl , maybe the Cards. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. My enjoyment of deer hunting is not based on antlers or trophies . I have shot my share of nice NYS bucks, as has my family . It's about getting together with my family and all doing something we enjoy. Each year there are new stories to add to the old ones and all the ball breaking that goes along with it. We have 3 generations of hunters and it's all good. Some years are better than others but that's how it goes . In fact last season was our most productive one , so I won't cry about this season being slow as at it was we still took 4 deer out of 7 hunters. Count your blessings and enjoy ! Merry Christmas to all! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. What a beautiful 8 pt but unfortunately that's hunting. Whenever u let an arrow or bullet fly things unforeseen to the best of us can happen. I found a buck a friend of mine shot about 10 years ago, I called him and he didn't want it, as he felt it wasn't his . After 2 years I gave it to my nephew he has it in his room and started his "collection". Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. I think you should think about how well he tolerates recoil. Kids think they can shoot an elephant gun but when your on range they can be intimidated which is normal. See how he shoots the different guns that you own or a friend or relative have to try them out. When my boys were small I took them to Texas on a deer hunt and they used my .223 and both were successful. Shot placement is important, more so than gun. I have a Ruger 44 auto , shot bear and deer with it and not a lot of recoil. Good luck and enjoy your hunt. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
