  1. Same here, hardly anyone out last weekend and very few shots. I am even thinking of taking a walk around some state land here...
  2. That was a good read, and maybe i should take up surfing now...Haha. Not many big waves in central NY. I hunt for many of the same reasons that were mentioned in the article. Great meat and a very down to earth experience to get it. Thanks Larry
  3. I am hoping to see a nice buck in mz season, can't hardly wait for Monday.. There is a lot of luck involved in hunting, all you can do is better the odds some, but there are no guarantees
  4. My neighbor asked permission to check our property yesterday,he shot at a big buck Saturday and couldn't catch up to him. He said a lot of blood and some bone fragments at hit site. He jumped him twice but had no shot. He didn't find anything yesterday...might be a dead unrecovered deer, not great. That is why no one should take a marginal shot even if the antlers are big. I feel bad for the deer. By the way, that buck was chasing does at 1 p.m.
  5. I think so Paul,i am curious about the hunting too.
  6. I guess my doe was really big. She weighed 128# field dressed and the buck weighed 135#. I was happy with both. My buddies Adirondack buck weighed 180# after hanging for 5 days, now that was a really big deer. Fun to process,he yielded a lot of meat.
  7. Agree with Dave. I really just discovered the moisture wicking undergarments a few years ago,and what a difference. Used to be a cotton t-shirt guy, what a dummy. I wore one at work the other day for the first time in a long while and sweat just a little but got chilled immediately. Same thing for socks, and taking layers off for the hike in. And the hat as well, makes a big difference.
  8. I saw some tracks in the snow last year, right of a dirt road. At first i thought trespasser!!! but then looked closer and saw the claw marks. That was neat. I dont know if i really want to see one while bowhunting though. I have no desire to shoot one, never tasted bear.
  9. Nothing here yet, thinking about a tree though. We definitely don't do outside lights. We have a six foot orange tree we decorated before, not quite like the real deal, but it was ok.
  10. I bet there are more bears than you think. I am in Otsego County, and a friend told me about a bait station the DEC set up over the summer last year to monitor the population and they had nine different bears on camera during the summer. That is a lot for one spot.
  11. Good, put a stop to that guy acting like he owns the place. We should all try to get along, and when someone is a bully he needs to get knocked down a size or five.
  12. I dont know about the etiquette for climbing in stands on state land, but the guy sounded like an ass. I know there are not supposed to be any permanent stands on state land though. I would not be happy to find someone in my stand, that's for sure. And are you positive on the property lines? If you are,i wouldnt hesitate to contact dec
  13. Ok,i should put my early success in perspective. At least i have something in the freezer. Wishing you empty handed folks best of luck!!!
  14. I am struggling to wait for mz as well, haven't been out since 7.15 opening morning. It is torture. Good luck out there folks!!!
  15. Ok,how do you keep a chest freezer and a generator from the fiance? Do you have a 2nd house that also is a secret?
  16. Does anyone know about a good deal on a bridge?
  17. ok,i fell for it. This guy is gullible, what can i say?
  18. Come on biz, finish gutting and lets have a look!!
  19. I usually do a couple of drives with 3 or 4 other people, but I have been sitting out since opening day because I got lucky and got a buck and doe. I just don't want my first day back in the woods to be big drive. I have been looking forward to still hunting with a muzzleloader in my hand instead of a bow,a little easier this way. I want to go find where the deer hang out now. The 300 acres I hunt should be well rested by then, except for trespassers maybe. You will hear all about it of course...
  20. How much longer till muzzleloader season? It can't come soon enough...
  21. Forgot this,a seven in my 6th year. He had no fat on him, chasing tails i guess. 135#
  22. Friends if mine are planning a big drive on Saturday, maybe 9 people. I have no tags but I think where I am right now in my hunter evolution I don't feel like being part of a drive anyway. It is more fun to see if I am lucky stillhunting on my own than waiting in a spot for a deer to come blazing past. What do you guys feel like doing?
  23. Muahahaha,four legged,hahaha
