I should weigh mine,my shoulders hurt just reading 20-30 min walk. I put a quality backpack frame on mine and it still sucks. I am in pretty decent shape ,so that should not be the problem. I will report back once i have a weight.

I don't know how you guys can carry the summit viper, the weight and of mine makes me want to leave it home. Maybe i bought the Tungsten version? It is possible...

Input needed on broadheads
BowmanMike replied to Swamp_bucks's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
I would go with a two blade head in case you hit bone they have the best chance at going through. I also think 600 gr is a bit on the heavy side for your DL and #. You can play around with different weight field tips and see how your arrow behaves. I would be curious to hear how much more your heavy arrow drops from 20 to 30 yds as i will experiment with a heavier set up as well, but i am thinking of going to about 500 gr with my 62# bow and 29.5 DL. -
@moog5050 i am shocked you dont use a safety harness. You are smarter than that. No one plans on falling, but stuff happens. Keep the belt long and you can move around a lot.

It is awesome to have guys out bowhunting still. Keep it up folks! I just took a couple of hang on stands down, they will go somewhere else next year. -
Good topic,i just found a hang on stand with no sticks below on public land by me. There is a lock on the stand,so it is pretty safe to assume that stand is left until next season. It is in a good looking spot too,i saw a bunch of tracks there scouting. No rubs though,so maybe not a good spot for bucks. It is very close to the road as well.

same reaction of both my does this year, both were back, liver and one one lung. Give her at least 4 hrs. -
My mind is made up,i will order a saddle soon and my climbing method will be with a rope, double rope technique. Super light, and when i am done i can rappel down the tree , the only thing faster than that is falling out of the tree. I am looking forward to being able to scout and set up right away where i think is a good spot. I can't seem to figure out patterns on the properties i hunt that are consistent from year to year.

I will be building a heavy arrow for my bow. Get close to 500 gr. I am only around 350 gr right now.
-
That looks ok,but not very quiet, hahaha

It's the weight i am trying to ditch and the option of climbing trees with branches. I am tired of looking for telephone poles that also have concealment, especially while carrying my climber on my back.

What Was Your Biggest Disappointment This Season?
BowmanMike replied to squirrelwhisperer's topic in Bow Hunting
I took a step in the right direction, and am planning to go further next year. More time with bow, less with the gun. Gun season is less fun to me every year. I think i will just save my time to go out during MZ for a last push,i hunt with the MZ anyway. -
I also heard that it is easier to hold the correct form.from a saddle vs. a hang on. You bend from the hip automatically.
-
I am getting one,you can check it out once i have it. I want that box that @sodfather has,bad...
-
I am in the same boat, different WMU,4F. One day i will hint somewhere else, most likely in the Adk.

Lefty righty doesn't matter at all. I think it is a good idea to get an entry level bow to see if you are really going to stick with the archery thing. I wouldn't worry about upgrading anything on it. After two or three years of using it your string will need replacing, depends on how much you shoot. I did the same thing and upgraded after 3 years with an adjustable beginners bow. I went on archery talk and got myself a great used bow for less than half the price of a new one. I switched my sights over and got a new string and rest for my used bow. I absolutely love that bow and will be shooting it for years to come. In my opinion that is a good way to go about it since i knew very little about compound bows in the beginning. You need to figure out your Draw length and what poundage is comfortable. Hope this helps. -
i am thinking of going to those myself, they are supposed to leave great blood trails.

The Official Haven't Killed a Buck Thread
BowmanMike replied to Five Seasons's topic in Deer Hunting
Still hurts to see a nice buck on here, cruel cruel cruel.... -
I should be able to get 10 yds once i burn a little more wood. Distance doesn't really matter though to practice form. Just shoot for tacks at short distance.

Well, the title explains it,i stopped at the archery shop today and dusted my bow off. Not bad for not having touched it in well over a month. I am about ready to set a target up in my basement, probably only 10 yds but it will work. The owner and me were joking about shooting an apple of each others heads and then he proceeded to cut a coffee cup in half and we placed it on a zombie 3d target. We shot at 20 yds,me with my compound,he shot with his recurve. We both hit the cup/apple on the first shot! We were happy we didn't kill each other theoretically. That was fun though, good to get the bow out.
