Thanks guys. Jay is the ultimate birthday monitor master! Sun is shining here and we are gonna crack 50 degrees today, but just... Going for a walk now, maybe some fishing later and homemade woodfired pizza tonight. This should be a very good day.

Welcome to the forum.

Eek,i have had it with snow. I couldnt believe how little there was in the valleys here,my house is at 1800',the valley is 1500 or so and only had an inch or two. It is all gone down there now,but we get to keep ours longer, nice!

you guys make me wanna go fishing. We just got dumped on last night, six inches of wet heavy snow. A cedar tree hit our house,no serious damage,i have to replace some roofing metal. When is spring coming?

Interesting. I would have thought originally you are a little underspined, but your chart shows the opposite. Generally you are better of overspined than underspined. I shoot a 300 spine arrow at 29.5 DL out of a 60# 330 IBO bow,but i have a little over 200 grains up front. Total arrow weight is 525 .

Maybe start at 10 yds, with that tear you might miss at 20. Ask me how i know.

Tuning van be tricky, but it is worth the hassle. You are going to learn so much about bow setup and arrow flght. Just like tacos said, one step at a time. I went through it last year and a little more this year, and it can be frustrating, but keep readng and trying.

As far as rest timing, you generally check when the rest comes up to vertical, usually around the last inch of full draw. You can put baby powder or lipstick or whatever else you think would leave a mark on your rest on your arrows fletching and shoot some arrows. Then see if anything shows up on the rest. My old drop away rest occasionally bounced back up after dropping and made contact with my fletching,no good.

You can shoot into a foam target and see which way the bareshaft arrows point. No mistaken tears there. If you feel your form is consistent and you get the same tears you can try turning the nock of the arrow 90° and shoot again, sometimes that changes the tear quite a lot. The other suggestion of getting the nock height right first is spot on. You can either change the nock height or the rest height to address the low tear. If your rest is set at centershot or close to it and you get sideways tears you can move the rest in small increments left or right, right for a tail left condition. Or you move the string itself by shimming the cam or twisting cables on a yoke if you have one. For a tail right you want to move the string right. Your grip has a huge influence on bareshaft arrows. Once you are close to good bareshaft flight try torquing the bow with your grip and see what happens then.

I think i am pretty far on the left side. I see the biggest problem in this world being the greed of the super rich. Politicians are mostly puppets and i dont get how people get all pissed of at them. They are just a shield hiding the true problem. Nobody on this planet should own billions of dollars,no work or invention is worth that much. Having that kind of money gives those folks much more than one voice. Free market is a joke, who benefits most from that? The super rich. Greed is what will destroy mankind, and maybe the planet. Climate change and overpopulation are contenders as well. I try not to think about all that too often as one could easily loose ones sense of humor.

I took the plunge,a saddle is in the mail...

No spikes on public land, otherwise yes. My whole setup is about 6#,and by using the Double rope climbing technique i can get into almost any tree. Especially the real big ones that you couldn't even get a strap around. But your way works too of course. I have the added safety of being tied in from the second my feet leave the ground. Another big advantage is being able to rotate around the tree to be able to shoot 360°. -
Get some sort of mobile set up and pick your best spots. Then see what happens when you are in there, real data. Try to find the best way to get in and out without the deer catching on,i think that one is a big deal if you are after mature bucks. I think that was one of my biggest mistakes so far in my hunting career. I will try to not hunt the same spot twice this fall, unless I have good reason to.

I climbed in a tree again today and shot my bow from the saddle. I think it is easier to bend from waist in the saddle than on a stand. I kept hitting rhe bullseye at 20 no problem. I think it is fairly comfortable too,but i only spent 40 mins or so in it. -
I am not very good at finding them really, but i think the 2nd half of May is the earliest for me. The few spots i know are at higher elevation,1800 or a little more. I think in the valleys they could be a little earlier...

eh,i am done looking at snow on the ground. Next season please...

Too eary here in CNY. we got another dusting of snow this morning, just like last morning. At least a month until morel season here..

Good post @Robhuntandfish,reminds me i gotta set up an appointment for my annual. I will be 48 in a few weeks and i think it doesnt hurt to have a check up. I am healthy and fit,but you never know... And also,an appointment for July seems like an ok time,at least right now. You can always cancel.

See beyond trump? That's a good one. There is no spin needed to make him look like a buffoon. I choose a not so bad word. -
I am in the same boat leland, this will be my first year hunting public. I do have access to quite a bit of private land as well, but this year i want to try to never hunt the same spot twice, unless there is good reason to. I am in the Cooperstown area and i am pretty sure that the pressure on state land out here is pretty low during archery season. Not much for population centers here. I expect the pressure to increase for crossbow and the rut. I wont be on state land during gun season, that much i know. Too many bozos out there then. I would not necessarily avoid spots other people hunt because everyone has the same right they hunt public land. I found some tree stands while scouting this spring and i may try some of those spots. Keeping those stands up is illegal and doesn't give anybody claim to the area. If however someone is there the day i am hunting i would go somewhere else. I guess my approach is to have a lot of spots in mind and decide depending on wind and pressure where i will go. I would also agree that harder to access spots will keep most people away. Most people are lazy when it comes to hunting. I will be very mobile with my saddle set up this year.

I have been a self employed mason for the last 19 years. I build chimneys, fireplaces, stonewalls and patios. It is a pretty good gig, somewhat seasonal and i learned to use my head more than my back,so i feel like i am in pretty decent shape. I didn't ruin my body before i started working smarter. We also have a hobby farm of sorts,so i got fairly good with a chainsaw, also with carpentry ,our house is 200 years old, also plumbing and a few other things. I can work right now, only the rocks and me since i work by myself. Most of my clients are loaded,so i dont expect much as far as canceled jobs.
