There are pluses to both but the constant drone of a buddy heater is annoying to me. If I were to go the stove route I would look into one of those "Survivor Stoves" from England Stove works. The smoke smell would make a great cover scent and would be small enough for a 8'x8' platform stand. It wouldn't take much to feed the little thing. And if done correctly you could tuck it into the corner with any fear of burning the shooting shack down. https://www.amazon.com/Englands-Stove-Works-Survivor-12-CSS/dp/B01LG809XC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1520859679&sr=8-2&keywords=England's%2BStove%2BWorks%2BInc&th=1&psc=1

Yup and they already closed their P.A. store about 1 year ago. They were just over the border for me and I stopped in there to buy my powder and reloading supplies. Really sucks I love shopping at their stores.

I'm hoping they take where it hurts the worse, in the pocket book obviously.

What he said^^ I had a post written out but decided against it.

Depends, around our house we have 40, my FIL has 40 in Middlesex, and back on my family's farm we have just shy of 200. All of them hold deer and have seen and taken some dandy's. On each property we have taken 160" deer. Except the 40 acres behind my house we didn't get to connect with the 140" 8 point. All of the properties are almost 100% wooded except for 60 acres of the 200. If I was looking for land I would like 50 acres, and good amount of brush and 100% wooded. If there isn't a food source there has to be a bedding area. At least you can add a food source later on.

Yup, we had 3 students in our building ask to do it. I'm really hoping that there is a pro gun protest that allows pro gun students to do the same. The way our district put it was if we let one side "protest" then we have to let the other side as well. I have had kids ask about it and explain why they are protesting and they are appalled. We don't have many anti's in our rural district so not many protesting. I want to add if they are all going outside how is that not a safety issue? I mean a mass of students standing outside would be easy pickings for any wanna-be school shooter. Not to mention there is a map that tells you what districts are doing it and where they are meeting.

For the wood-burners, how's the season going?
chas0218 replied to philoshop's topic in General Chit Chat
I hope your house is around 5000 sq.ft. and you like it about 80*. That is a lot of wood and pellets for an average sized house. -

Loonnngggggg, I have about 1 and 1/2 cords left of seasoned wood so I am hoping that I don't blow through that. We heat our 3000 sq.ft. house primarily with our wood stove and supplement with our oil hot water baseboard. We went through about 100 gallons of fuel oil since and 3.5 cords since October. Our wood stove has been running non stop since october, and quite frankly I'm ready to be done. BTW this was all ash and very little red oak. -
Iron pipe is the hot new craze, my wife is doing a farmhouse decor in our new house and iron pipe is in a lot of the decor. Neat ideas and very cheap compared to buying already made stuff. Forgot to mention so is pallet wood. Made a pallet wood wall for the end of our shower stall. They look pretty neat.

Yup, if they are important or the message is they will leave a voicemail.

As a teacher we probably see some kids more than their parents that being said as a teacher we can't instill our values onto students without backlash from parents or community. I have seen several instances where colleagues were reprimanded for calling a kid out on behavior that was condoned at home. Kind of sad really. Kids acting like total jerks because mom and/or dad bad mouths the teacher at home because their little angel is never wrong.

My experience at lowes was basically the same thing. I bought around $1500 worth of lumber to only have to load it all myself I was beyond pissed. 20 sheets of 3/4 osb, 40 sheets of 7/16" osb, 25 2x10x16. I had them call the manager over told him what happened and asked why the 2 lumber employees in the back running the forklift filling orders couldn't help me load any of it. Instead this 60 year old lady about 5' flat volunteered after I stood around for 30 minutes waiting on the forklift driver and spotter. I thanked her and said she did not need to help me she was struggling lifting a single 2x10. I was fuming and later called their corporate phone number. I try to shop locally but for the amount of money the ma and pop lumber yard wanted I would have got half the amount of material for the same price. The kicker was both filling orders were old students of mine. There is no customer service anymore, the days of Chase Pitkins and customer service are over.

Here is something to think about. It is possible to have schools that would keep active shooters from killing mass amounts of people but it all comes at a price. Below is a link of a school in Indiana that is marked as the safest school in america. https://www.nbcnews.com/nightly-news/video/inside-the-safest-school-in-america-1166029891710

O ok I was thinking it was the same gun just different version. Thanks again.

Thanks you, you literally made my day and to think it was just me this shit happens to. Sad part is Walmart isn't the only store to do this kind of crap to me Lowes is the one lately, I do have to say i think the ones that are pushing carts/loading are mentally challenged. I want to add I'm not being sarcastic I truly think they give those jobs to the slower minded individual not in all cases but from what I have noticed they aren't handling the money or working inventory.

Power outage from northeaster 24 hours no power no heat
chas0218 replied to Hunter007's topic in General Chit Chat
I use mine in the woods when building permanent stands. You can run a lot of different power tools from them. I use it probably twice a year but not anymore than that. Also have used it for power outages but majority has been in the woods. It's a peace of mind I guess. We can't afford to do the hotel thing with the 4 of us 2 nights in a hotel would have paid for the generator and the fuel. I guess it all depends on your lifestyle. I prefer to keep it like camping but if I need to keep my food from spoiling I'll throw on the generator. -

An interlock, install and exterior outlet is A LOT cheaper and legal not sure why anyone would go this route. -
Anyone tell me if this is a good deal? It's an X D .40 not sure if the XDS is better. They have it for $329.99 http://palmettostatearmory.com/springfield-armory-pistol-xd-mod-2-sub-compact-3-40s-w-bitone-xdg9822hc.html

I'm sure it makes a big difference ammo wise between the 2. I know I can load my 9mm to kick more than my .40 but I like to use the lightest self defense bullet possible in that caliber. It just ensures it wouldn't go through the perp and into the other room. Personally that is the man reason for me to not have a .45 pistol. Lots of energy in that round but for self defense I want the bullet to stop in the person and not keep going.

All that money? You just paid $10k for a deck! Next time you are in Upstate pick up a 5k watt generator brand of your choosing for $500-$700 and be done with it. I'm not sure what they go for down there but for the $500 it's a nice piece of mind. -

And aside from the electrical issues keep your generator OUTSIDE and away from windows. Also make sure you check your furnace and hot water heater exhausts to ensure they aren't covered under snow. Carbon monoxide is not something to mess around with. -

Go the portable route and do an interlock on your panel. It allows you to legally back feed into your panel. In order to use the breaker supplied for the generator you have to flip your main off then turn the generator breaker on. Below is an interlock setup. -
Okay I wasn't sure how it all worked never shot one or held one.

Will do, You like the safety on them? I have been used to the trigger style safety not sure how hard it would be to transition to the palm style safety. It looks like yours has the trigger style safety do they all have that? I like the simplicity of just grabbing the gun and being able to pull the trigger and it goes bang. Also the wife doesn't shoot a lot so for her to be able to just pick it up and pull the trigger is a plus.

I bought all my guns with plans to CC so they are all smaller. I have an SD9VE, and a Glock 23 that are great to shoot and CC easily in the cooler months but my summer CC is a Bodyguard .380. I can put the thing in my pocket and no one would know the difference. It's really small compared to anything else I own or have looked at. My next purchase will be a shield or similar sized pistol. I'm not a Ruger pistol fan so it won't be one of those.
