  1. It was a right when they enacted the "No child left behind act" being that no child can refuse an education. I won't get into this on this thread and de-rail but the Con Con can have a drastic effect on state agencies and public services. You're right my salary is paid by NYS and not enough for what I have to deal with or do. Saying I'm supporting socialism is ignorant along with saying schools are failures. The only failures are the idiots that allow their kids to become entitled and never have to work for anything. The blue collar workers and middle class will be impacted the most from the Con Con than any others. Those living off the system don't have to deal with it and the elites won't care as they will get their tax breaks from their buddy Cuomo's programs. I'll add this last part, how many republican special interest groups are out there now compare that to the democratic special interest groups and which have a bigger pull? Yeah we complain about NYC running all of NY what do you think is going to happen if there is a Con Con. You're an idiot if you think upstate will benefit from it.
  2. Really? I didn't know that man I have been missing out. I had only 1 hard track and was hit through the backstrap and lived but would have been nice to see where he went.
  3. Yeah looks like it from all the pictures I have found, Also found out that you can make a tea from the bark to treat fevers, diarrhea, and headaches. Neat to know. I know willow bark can be used as a tea to act as a blood thinner (as long term use) and aspirin for occasional use. I'm no hippy or herbalist just neat to know what these different plants do.
  4. I think you might be right, I remember seeing white flowers not sure if it was these or not. These are growing wild in the poplars on my property. I wasn't sure what they were though it would be cool if they were elder berries I know a lot of people that make jam from them. I'll have to keep looking. I found some hawthorn and apple trees all over the property.
  5. Yup, if upstate voters got out to the polls it would make a huge difference in the outcome of the election. The biggest thing on the ballot coming up this Nov. is the constitutional convention. If allowed it could mean the end to the State retirements and jobs it could become all privatized along with education meaning those that send their kids to public schools could be required to pay a tuition really impacting the blue collar or middle class of NY. There is no need for a "Con Con" to amend the state constitution it can be done now through state legislature.
  6. I apologize ahead of time if I'm posting this in the wrong section I didn't really know which section this belongs in. The pictures suck I couldn't get my phone to focus on the small stems and berries but I think this is an elder berry patch just not sure. I am trying to rotate these but there isn't an option too anyone know how to?
  7. Haha you aren't kinding about the mushrooms haven't had him try and follow a blood trail hopefully this year he can get a little practice. I found a bunch of puff balls on our property and I showed my son how to squish them and spread the pores now walking through the woods I have to wait for him he finds them everywhere when I never see them. He finds all kinds of mushrooms and I can never spot them. I really think it has to do with being closer to the ground. The blood and stuff has to look bigger being 2 feet closer to it.
  8. I bought some water proof fleece stuff from dicks a long time ago probably 6 or 7 years ago, it doesn't breathe all that great but is nice and quiet. Never really felt any heavier when it was raining. @Doc Have you thought about spraying some waterproofing stuff on your clothes?
  9. If your in stand I would recommend one of those tree umbrellas. I use mine whenever it dribbles to downpours. It takes about 2 minutes to setup and I can angle the umbrella any direction the rain is coming from. Here is a photo of mine it works well and as you can see blends in well. They can also double as a blind if you ground hunt.
  10. Same with fleece real and synthetic.
  11. This right here if it is going to be warm don't bother stinking the area up. I have some nice deer roaming my parents property but not stepping foot up there until the temps come down.
  12. If you are looking for a new rifle the CZ american 527 with rifle sights might fit the bill. I have one in .222 rem and love it. Great rifle and drives tacks. You could also go with the trusted 30-30 marlin they are about the same price as a good reflex or red dot.
  13. Yup some kid screwing around I would bet. Like you said low poundage and any hunter this time of year wouldn't be hunting with field points and judging by the arrow entry it might have been a ricochet from misjudging distance and the arrow skipping off the ground.
  14. Or amish and they still aren't great but they take pride in their work. A lot of contractors hate the amish but they are the only ones that will do the job right (most of the time) and to the end. I have only heard of 1 instance where the amish screwed the pooch.
  15. Yup on my pack never had one come off, knock on wood. when I wore it on my back I would take a safety pin and pin it through the hole as an added precaution. I have lost them wearing them on my back but never on my pack. Also works great for turning in tresspassers.
  16. Looks awesome what did you use? Also I like your work light in the back I got my at Aldis a few years ago, it works great and was dirt cheap. Other than the cheap bulbs that burned out in a few weeks of use it has been great.
  17. That's the toughest part. Many of us might be good at fixing things but unfortunately none of us can fix stupid.
  18. Not sure about Ohio but NY it is not legal to shoot a dog. You can shoot a cat if it is pursuing/harassing/killing protected song birds (a.k.a. all non-game birds.)
  19. So lets do antler restrictions too because they work everywhere else.
  20. That's because you make those big bucks.....get it? get it? Yeah basically you're getting the taxes back on the merchandise.
  21. I think that only applies when a contractor does the work.
  22. Sucks to hear about the injuries on both dogs. Love hearing the stories. Had a beagle get into a porcupine, we used a set of dykes and cut the tops of the quill and pulled them out using pliers. He just sat there like you said never whimpered. That dog was tough but man was he gun shy, you just get the gun out and he was hiding under the bed.
  23. Nice work, we are doing a little remodel ourselves about 1500 sq.ft. worth. Glad to see you went with the T&G, I wish we could have done all our walls and ceilings with the stuff mostly because I hate doing drywall. My wife is excited because everything else has been on hold to get the bedrooms finished before I hit the woods hard. We have another week before it starts to get any colder anyway, looks like early morning and late evening will be nice with overnights in the low 40s.
  24. That makes sense based on the cut. Makes me wonder then how big of a cut it was to begin with or if it was even an arrow that did the damage. My dog got tangled in a hook while fishing it caught him in his lip as he tried to bite the perch, their first instinct is to pull away. Not saying the dog wasn't shot at but seems a little extreme to throw out accusations if she truly didn't witness the act.
