whats your favorite wild game?
Steuben Jerry replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in Game Recipes / Cooking
Gotta stay with the venison as there are so many different ways to prepare it. As a matter of fact, doing some Venny Wellington this weekend. I'm not much of a bird hunter, but I'll walk past a pile of well made venny to eat some smoked pheasant! -

I haven't driven by there in years so I wasn't even sure they were still in operation - I need to make a stop there! -

I grew up within sight of Davie's, and live about 100 miles away now. Best fish shop I've ever been to! -

Ted Nugent proves .......
Steuben Jerry replied to fasteddie's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I like Ted, seen him countless times in concert and paid to hear him speak at a gun show in Caledonia once. But I really wish he'd stand down on the boisterous pro-gun stuff. He makes me cringe sometimes. This is one of those times. -
Got to get you to "sample the dial" more. Hop on over to the Turbo, Octane, Hair Nation, Boneyard, Liquid Metal, or Lithium channels. You know, the sweet spot on the Sirius/XM dial...

Power outage from northeaster 24 hours no power no heat
Steuben Jerry replied to Hunter007's topic in General Chit Chat
Yup, we actually did have a fireplace/woodstove insert with a blower. But with no AC to the blower we just camped out in the room using it as a radiant heater for 3 weeks. But I was worried about getting heat down to the basement. If I recall, the temp down there was hovering around 33-34 degrees. -
Power outage from northeaster 24 hours no power no heat
Steuben Jerry replied to Hunter007's topic in General Chit Chat
It's just another form of insurance. I'd guess you paid much more than $1k in homeowners insurance since you've owned your house but hopefully have never needed to use it (I get it - that's for catastrophic need). Murphy's law would probably kick in here meaning you'd never need it once you bought it, or you'll need it 10 times in a month if you don't buy it. For me, we lost power for just shy of three weeks after a bad ice storm in the 90's. After a few days, I thought I'd go buy a generator because temps were getting cold and I was starting to worry about freezing pipes. Guess what? None to be found in the entire region. Now we never knew it was going to be three weeks, every day we were expecting it to come back on that day. The biggest pain was that wife and daughters could not go for three weeks without a blow dryer or curling iron. That was getting to be a problem! -

Jumpin' Jehoshaphat!! Do you mean the Guvamint isn't coming through on this? Don't worry, "Cumo" will take care of it. Word is he likes you... -
Got to meet @G-Man yesterday when I picked up this planter. Good guy, and very knowledgeable. Loved your place G-Man, what a nice spot! Thanks for the good deal on the planter, and we'll see how good I do with it on something else that I know little about!

Scariest experience or encounter in the woods or on the water
Steuben Jerry replied to wooly's topic in General Hunting
Mid 1980's on Lake Ontario, first powerboat I owned, an old '72 Starcraft 16 ft fiberglass with a 140 mercruiser decked out with riggers. Ran out to about 300 FOW in front of Point Breeze doing some Springtime trolling with my fishing bud on the fringe of a group of charter boats on a windless day. It was a dinky boat to take out that far, but the lake was dead flat, close-in brown trout fishing was slow, and we were in our 20s and clueless. After a few hours of putt putting along, a pretty thick fog set up. Eventually you couldn't see 20 ft in front of you. I was maybe a 2 year boater at the time and was getting kind of nervous. There was no such thing as GPS at the time, and I certainly couldn't afford a Loran. So we just turned south and trolled toward the NY shore. No biggie, but still kind of nervous. As a relative novice I'd been out in mildly foggy days, but never had been out in pea soup before. I could always see other boats those times, but that day I couldn't see or hear anything. Just trolling blind in the fog. Well, it must have been the end of the trolling day because we hear engines throttling up and getting closer. I'm thinking WTF, they can't see us! Pulling back into Oak Orchard Creek Iater I could see they had radar on the bridges, but I wasn't thinking that at the time. You couldn't see 30 ft in front of you and 30+ foot boats are zooming around, racing all around us toward port. Every five minutes or so, it would sound like one was bearing down right at us. We just kept trolling and told each other to be ready to jump overboard at any second. We must've said 3000 words to each other in 30 seconds. Obviously nothing at all happened, no close calls, nothing at all to talk about except what stupid puzzys we were. To this day I'm a wuss going on the water if there's fog involved. -
Dicks sporting goods/field and stream

That's a good idea! An anonymous poll would probably get better data. I'd be interested in seeing that. As long as we keep China from posting in it overnight. -

Steuben Jerry replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in General Chit Chat
I agree with you. But... I don't have any handguns. Just never been bit by the bug to get one yet. But as part of the gun enthusiast fraternity, I would never say go ahead and take handguns as it doesn't affect me. After all, who hunts with a handgun? Probably the minority. -
I got the same situation on the field of which I border two sides. He last had corn over 5 years ago, and the activity was high, especially for bears. He's had oats and alfalfa for the last few years but is going back to corn this year. Whoo-hoo!!

Sounds like a Hillary statement. Why, so some legislators feel good? It doesn't solve anything. Why should I have to give up my civil liberties, I didn't do anything wrong. Why not secure the schools like a bank, and address the mental health issue? You think banning an inanimate object fixes the problem? Murder is illegal too. Lawbreakers don't follow laws. I want kids safe. Banning AR's doesn't do it. -

I didn't mind when I heard they stopped sales of AR's. It's a free country, they can sell what they want. But to lobby for a ban? Ive been a pretty good customer over the years, but now they sound like an enemy. I've never really boycotted anything before. Good time to start. -
Good on you reeltime! Good karma should be coming your way!
