  1. I did that a couple of months ago, but I'm waiting for the supporter icon thing. I figured John was hunting hard and will get to it now that the season is winding down.
  2. Same exact situation here. I have the Gatco and have had it for years, but the Worksharp is just a quick no fuss sharpener. My Buck folding hunter sharpens up like a scalpel in minutes!
  3. Hmm, and in my limited interactions with Uptown, I thought he (or she) was a hunter that just had a liberal leaning mindset of which I'm tolerant of as I respect most people's opinions even if it doesn't match my own. So just a troll to rile people up after all...
  4. Thanks, I thought murder and homicide were the same thing.
  5. The shooter needs to be held accountable. I am not a lawyer nor do I play one on TV, but homicide? Which means murder, right? I wonder if that gets reduced to manslaughter?
  6. Congrats and nice deer! Stomach bugs knock me for a loop, I probably would have stayed on the couch if I had that. Even more impressive that you got him while you were under the weather!
  7. Buckmaster, I'm so sorry for your loss. Your Dad went the way he wanted to, something we can all only hope to do.
  8. Well, even though Oct 1 seems like a long time ago, the 2016 season so far sure seemed to fly by pretty fast. I passed on a lot of bucks through the bow and early rifle season, but my wife took a 5 pointer, only her second buck in about 10 years and her best. My youngest daughter took a nice eight, and my son in law took a wide 8, his best deer to date. The known big boys had fallen by the second day of rifle, so I was pretty much resigned to not shooting a buck as my target bucks were down. I did score one of my best trophies to date; I took my 9 year-old grandson for a couple of days to sit with me, and we connected on a doe 10 minutes into our first sit. A 185 yard (he ranged it after the shot) poke directly into her heart. He was also there (but with me on the other side of our property) for my wife's buck, the same buck that we watched together only a half hour earlier. My time with him was the highlight of my season. So I may go for a doe this weekend with the smoke pole, but even if I don't 2016 was a memorable year! Hope you all made memories, big or small, and I wish everyone luck for muzzleloader season!!
  9. Congrats to your friend - that's a real nice buck!
  10. Sorry for your loss. Like BigVal, I like those too and have watched for them on Craigslist. Nice, wide beam on those things. Makes for a good lake boat. I'm assuming it's a Spectrum? I'd agree with the $1500-$2500 range depending on condition. Got pictures of it?
  11. I've heard no fat ladies singing in the Southern Tier yet. I'm still in it with a buck tag and am hoping some of the drives going on in properties down the road push a few neighbor bucks my way Saturday or Sunday. Might take a doe if I can with the smoke pole after this weekend. Just checked the "concert schedule" - Fat Lady scheduled to sing at dusk on December 20th at a southern tier woodlot near you!
  12. Just curious Uptown, and not trying to stir the pot, but what's your complaint with the NRA?
  13. Man, he's sure got a lot of potential!
  14. Welcome to the forum, lots of good people and info sharing here!
  15. Congrats on the spur of the moment hunt!
  16. Just checked. Doesn't say pending anymore. Just waiting for that little badge thing I guess.
  17. I'm trying to thicken parts of my woods up by selective cutting to thin out the canopy. The only experience I have with thinning is I cleared up an area around my house about 100 yds into the woods, just for a more pleasing "out the window" view. Prior to that, the deer were moving regularly through the thick stuff, just a few yards from my lawn. Now they travel where the thick stuff is, and I don't see them much from the house anymore. I'm going to let that brush up again. ps, when I saw your first picture, I thought that it looked very "deery".
  18. Pygmy, I know! And I learned a while ago to tiptoe around that subject. I'm a lover, not much of a fighter! I don't get in there too often, but drive by it twice a day. One of these days we'll meet up for a cold one!
  19. A mountain lion has been discovered road killed in NY before, with all of the trail cams deployed in the state I'm surprised that one didn't get a selfie taken. That said, our cat gets on our trail cams near the house frequently (she's a bit of a ham). These pics look like those. DanielT, no worries, a thicker epidermis seems to be needed when discussing this subject online.
  20. He got fired for that?! Must've been messing with his bosses wife or something. I see nothing close to resembling a fireable offense in that article. I like NFA's suggestion!
  21. Just give me five minutes alone with that guy!
