  1. We started at the grandstand and moved to the Seneca around the halfway point. I was disappointed at the lack of fly-by too. I was talking to one of the security guys and he was saying all the concessions were all at other places for labor day as they all plan months in advance. It was probably to late to get the fly-by too. There was very little food or drink available without long waits. He said it would be much better next year, but I thought the Glen really did a great job with a surprise jam-in to the schedule. We'll be back in '17 and '18!
  2. Yamaha 3000 inverter. I've had mine since 2002. Never a problem and whisper quiet.
  3. Nice shots! We must've been sitting within 50 yards of you.
  4. I've got 4 2-man stands, and added this one a month or two ago. Much more rigid than the other "bargain" ones I've bought. http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=45869916&cp=4406646.70516396.4413993.4414427&categoryId=70860906 You don't need to use the blind, but it comes with it. The blind is 2 piece (upper and lower). You don't have to have the upper attached.
  5. All this squirrel talk makes we want to take a morning walk tomorrow! Maybe if I leave the shotgun in the safe and take my .17, I can shoot the warbles off! Going to Canadice or Hemlock this weekend for some fishing, maybe the warbles are a double secret killer bait! That'll change my thinking!
  6. Hah, I've got one of those running around too. One spike on the opposite side of this one.
  7. Am I understanding this correctly? If questioned by law enforcement, the tag owner lies by saying he pulled the trigger when he really didn't? Sorry in advance if I'm misunderstanding it.
  8. I'm with the consensus, it's a bear. Watch that cam, usually when I get such close head shots like that, it's right before the bear beats the crap out of the camera!
  9. Yeah, you're right. There's not too much that bothers me, but that's one of them. I certainly won't throw them away if I kill one with a warble, but I don't necessarily want a bunch of them either. ps, yet I'll eat snails, raw shellfish, etc...
  10. What a cute pup! I'd be guilty of spoiling that little guy!
  11. I'll be out for a few early walks with a .410 or a 20 ga., then a bit more serious about it once the first frost hits, and I'll be taking the /17 cal for a walk (head shots only). Not a big fan of the bot fly experience, and I've never encountered them after the first few frosty mornings.
  12. How do you keep that quad so sparkling clean? Looks good!
  13. So sorry for your loss, my condolences.
  14. I still have a Loc-on in the garage. It hasn't been hung on a tree in 15 years or more. As I've gotten older and wiser (the latter is debatable), I've evolved into only ladder stands or built in stands made of pressure treated wood. I'm not a big fan of heights..
  15. Lol, why should I run? You liberals don't bother me a bit. I'm fairly tolerant of overbearing, holier than thou, left leaning whiners. The real estate taxes will run me off in a few years when I retire though. Then you can pay the share I used to pay.
  16. Nothing really except being semi-auto it's a soft shooter, and it's very accurate. It's cheaper than some of the alternatives (like a BAR or M-1), and way more accurate than a mini-14. I like the "barbie doll" aspect of decking it out with accessories. Also, I was a machinist by trade for many years, so to me it's not ugly, it looks "techy" Heavy as heck though. It's not better, just different.
  17. LOL, not free states that follow the constitution. Hillary, is that you?
  18. Really? My scary looking evil M&P shoots holes in nickels at 200 yds. Holes in coyotes too. That's pretty legit to me. If it was chambered in 7.62mm, I'd use it for deer. Who says I shouldn't be able to have it? Andy, is that you?
  19. The only problem is that it's illegal. Help to get the law changed instead. FWIW, I'd like to be able to feed them off season too, especially to attract them to a camera, but it's a no-go in NY.
  20. From the Q and A sections on the NYSDEC page that explains the law; Can other wildlife, like songbirds, still be fed? Yes, if deer and moose are not attracted to the food, or it is inaccessible to them. Call it what you will, but the ENCON in my area would write you a ticket. It can't be accessible.
  21. Just remember, when your "home" bucks wander off looking for love in Oct/Nov, other bucks can come wandering in. In 2013, 14, and 15, I was watching nice bucks on camera each year, but they were never to be seen during the season. However, those three years netted me two 9-pointers and a 10-pointer. None of those three deer were ever picked up on my cameras, and I'm running 10 cams on 90 acres.
  22. The first cool night or frosty morning. Always makes me want to skip work. So much better than the muggy, hot weather we have now. Fall is my favorite season for a lot of things. (hunting, football, holidays, leaves, etc) That said, I hate what Fall turns into!
  23. We've lost three blinds over the last few years to bears. They seem to be sending me a message - lol. I try to not leave them up any longer than I have to just to minimize my losses. There's nothing like arriving to your spot in the early morning darkness and finding your blind trashed. One of those times, there was a big pile of scat left on it. Like I said, a message.
