  1. If it takes them it is always nice to have a couple of plugs
  2. You silly silly man. The government would only find ways to spend more money. Relieving the tax burden especially on NY residents is not on anyone's agenda...now or in the future.
  3. Seems like all these "gadgets" are nothing more than excuses not to practice. Practice and more practice will do more for accuracy than any of these devices. Just one opinion.
  4. Not completely sure why it is our mission instead of a UN mission especially when they all applaud it...but if we are going to do it we should do it right.
  5. Rule of thumb is: At least 36 to 48 hours of feeding is required for a tick to have fed and then transmit the bacterium that causes Lyme disease. Bad News is: There is no benefit of blood testing for Lyme disease at the time of the tick bite; even people who become infected will not have a positive blood test until approximately two to six weeks after the infection develops (post-tick bite).
  6. To all that have served: History of Army Day World War II was in full swing when Franklin D. Roosevelt sat the American Presidency. He held an unenviable position at the time, leading the American nation into a war that followed on the heels of what had been called “The War to End All Wars”. Little did they know the war to follow would be the most devastating and destructive war in history, and more lives would be lost during it than could they possibly could have imagined in their worst horror-driven nightmares. Vital to the efforts of every member of the Allies was their military, and most importantly those men and women who crossed foreign ground on foot to defend, recover, and take enemy positions that would alter the flow of the war. Army Day was established to commemorate all members of all armed forces and the civilians that support them. It was clear he truly understood the function of our military men and women when he cited them as “A Mighty Arm of the Tree of Liberty”, knowing that they were all that stood between the safety, security, and peace of those who fought against tyranny and the cruel and dominating forces of the Axis of Evil that sought to destroy it all. Army Day serves as a reminder that everything that we hold dear is thanks to the efforts of these men and women, and the blood they spill in the name of our freedoms.
  7. Seems like good stuff but it isn't 100%. Last deer season sprayed EVERYTHING. Pack, hats, gloves, boots, camo, etc. And still found a couple on me. For some reason they seem to be most persistent in the southern part of the state like south of I-90. The end of March I was in Schuyler county and our dog (who is treated) picked up two in no time. Luckily she is white and it was easy to see them crawling. One of my nieces that lives in Chemung county got diagnosed with Lyme the first part of March and she hardly ever plays outside in the winter. Like Turkeyfeather says I have no doubt they are going to worse than ever this year and Turkey season would be a prime time to get them. The main thing is finding them and removing them before they dig in. You can never be to careful!!!!

    Hooks

With nails as clean as that it has to be a "rubber" worm . Try threading the hook down the worm as far as it will go with the barb only sticking out a touch...like so
  9. Because they are a "sanctuary city" and it is nothing but the best for their illegal immigrants. Surprised they were in a public school instead of a private school. I would like to know why they even get a trial.
  10. Stay home...muddy/ fast water/ & trout do not make a good combination. With 4lb test you will be losing more lures on snags & hang ups than catching fish.

    Hooks

Pretty much depends on the size/of the trout you are fishing. With brook and stream brown trout a small hook like #6 or smaller is common size. You can go bigger for steelheads and lake browns but as rule use the smallest possible. Have had Lake Ontario browns hit a pretty good sized lure but for streams I try to keep it small.
  12. They are just killing me! weathermen Only job in the world you can be wrong everyday and still get paid.

  14. Interesting read from a year ago: Following a multi-year study, the state Department of Environmental Conservation has concluded that the state's deer hunters "prefer" to hunt older bucks and that further "expansion of mandatory antler restrictions" is not warranted at this time. Instead, the DEC will encourage hunters to "voluntarily pass up" shots on younger bucks as a management method to best serve the interests of deer hunters across the state. "Through this study, DEC engaged with the hunting community to determine the best deer herd management practices to benefit both the deer population and our state's wildlife enthusiasts," said Basil Seggos, acting DEC commissioner. "DEC staff concluded that promoting voluntary restraint was appropriate given the high level of hunter support for increased availability of older bucks. Using a sound scientific approach to wildlife management is an essential strategy to expand hunting opportunities and growing the hunting economy in New York." 18. Updated 3/28/17: DEC Establishes Oak Wilt Protective Zones in Greenwood Heights, Canandaigua and Suffolk County 03/28/2017 DEC Establishes Oak Wilt Protective Zones in Greenwood Heights, Canandaigua and Suffolk County Protective Zones will help prevent spread of deadly oak wilt tree disease The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) today announced that Oak Wilt Protective Zones have been established in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Greenwood Heights, Kings County; the Town of Canandaigua, Ontario County; and all of Suffolk County. These zones are the first line of defense in preventing the spread of oak wilt, a deadly tree disease. Previously, DEC established Oak Wilt Protective Zones in the towns of Glenville, Schenectady County, and Central Islip, Suffolk County. The county-wide Protective Zone for Suffolk County replaces the zone for Central Islip. Protective zone order signed.... signed 3/23/17 http://www.dec.ny.gov/docs/lands_forests_pdf/owordercanandaigua.pdf http://www.dec.ny.gov/lands/46919.html
  19. I will probably get crucified for this but here goes just one opinion: I owned one and while it was a great shooting rifle and very accurate I found it very loud and to much recoil for my liking.
  20. Agree with Grampy & the others..that is a great and rare shot.
  21. Pygmy Haven't talked to anyone about a smelt run anywhere. What I was saying was we use to time our perch fishing on Seneca around the smelt run which give or take is about the same time everywhere in the state. I haven't fished Seneca in quite some time and when we did we would smelt on the Hector side. When we perch fished it would be primarily on the Dresden side. Since I sold my boat (one of the dumbest things I ever did.) I haven't fished much at all. Haven't done any smelting lately either and didn't realize it was that bad in Seneca. We use to hit them there and Canandaigua pretty good. I don't know anyone smelting anymore and can't get any of the "younger" generation interested so I have been sitting it out. It really isn't something you want to do alone with all that "can" go wrong.
