Looks like a sow. Ears are rather tall on the head and no sag to the belly. Great fur though. Seems real thick and full. I'd guess currently 200 or so pounds at the moment. But it's hard to say without something in the pics as a size reference.

That show "The View" is bad. But even they should have enough sense not to have this stooge on there.

New stock - ugly or nice?
Rattler replied to Steuben Jerry's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
I will be honest with you Jerry, I think it is hideous. Maybe it would grow on me after a while too, but I would hope not. I also like a hunting stock to be free of frills. I really hate the fore end with the under rail. Won't all of those adjustable pieces on the butt fill with dirt in the field? I can appreciate laminates, but most have fine layers. This one seems to have thick layers, giving it a gaudy look. I can find beauty in a target rifle that is ugly when it shoots well, but I like hunting rifles to be a thing of beauty. That being said, I sacrifice looks for durability and hunt with a Kimber Montana. She is a plain Jane that looks good to me, because I love the way it hunts. Anyway, just giving you my honest opinion since you asked. To each his own. I hope you enjoy it in good health for many years to come. -
The "Boy Crisis" in America
Rattler replied to Rattler's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
And that's the way our leftist elected hacks like them Greg. -
That's the measurement of the inside diameter of the lens cap, which should correspond to the outside diameter of the scope's front end. Can you measure it with a dial caliber to see what the OD on the front of the scope is?

If you think the problems the government creates are bad, wait until you see their solutions. https://patriotpost.us/articles/57260-video-how-government-caused-the-boy-crisis

He certainly didn't support "Limited" 2nd Amendment rights either. He said the right could be regulated, but on a very limited basis that conforms to the individual liberties the founders intended. He was not a supporter of bans on handguns, concealed carry, ANY semi-auto firearm or ANY large capacity magazines. No right is unlimited. But no right is currently more restricted then those defined by the 2nd Amendment. Scalia was very much opposed to the majority of those restrictions. About the only restrictions he ever verbalized supporting, were on true military only type weapons, such as full auto and explosive devices. Even those he felt should only require a permit to possess.

Took one down with a high brass 7 1/2 using a Mossberg 835 with the backbored barrel and modified choke that was a good 70 yards out. Really impressed my buddy with that lucky shot.

Just curious about the loads people use when hunting pigeons. I always use a 12 gauge with 2 3/4 in Hi Brass 7 1/2 shot. I prefer a modified choke as it does well on long shots, but can still be aimed well enough for anything close.

Learned my wing shooting skills as a boy in the 1960's shooting pigeons out of a barn in Matamoras, PA. We used to send a boy into the barn to flush them out and blast away at them as they flew out. It was usually a one time thing for the day, but the birds would be back in there a little later and we could do it again. It was some of the best wing shooting I ever experienced and it was a lot of fun. Best of all, it really taught me how to wing shoot!

As a pre-teen in the 1960's, visiting relatives in Matamoras, PA just across the Delaware river from Port Jervis, NY, I was often taken to the local dump outside of town just before dusk, to be properly instructed in moving target marksmanship. Just as the sun set, the rats would begin to come out and the owner of the dump encouraged people to come up and shoot them. We used .22 rifles, .22 pistols, pellet rifles, pellet pistols and a single shot 12 gauge with target loads. All of the firearms were utilizing iron sights too. (One of my uncles used the 12 gauge the most, as he wasn't a very good shot with anything else.) This is where I learned real world gun safety too. I must have killed a thousand rats in my many trips to that dump, and it improved my shooting skills, as well as hunting skills, tremendously. Long shots, moving shots, multiple shots, low light condition shots, shots through small openings and tiny target shots were all common, giving me lots of practice, improving my live target shooting skills beyond the level of most other boys my age. These rat hunting expeditions probably instilled in me the greatest part of my desire to go hunting as soon as I was old enough to legally go. My wing shooting skills were also perfected not far from that dump, at an old barn that had too many pigeons in it. However, that is a subject best saved for another thread. I think it is a shame that such experiences are not available to young people today, because I believe they offer a chance to learn a positive skill set in firearm safety, resourcefulness, patience, discipline, bonding and responsible fun, that should be part of every child's upbringing. Today, the closest thing one could hope for, is sending your child off to kill terrorists in the military. However, lots of earlier experience shooting rats at the dump, would help when they got there.

SC Justice Kennedy is RETIRING!
Rattler replied to Rattler's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
A very good pro 2nd Amendment choice. Anti-gun billionaire Michael Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety is essentially writhing in agony, declaring in an email blast: “Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s extreme outlier approach to the Second Amendment would elevate gun rights above public safety and put in jeopardy the full range of gun safety laws — including assault weapons and large-capacity magazine prohibitions, minimum age requirements, safe storage requirements, and other common-sense gun safety laws.” Judge Kavanaugh wrote a dissent in a case that banned possession of most semi-auto rifles in the District of Columbia. In his dissent, he observed, “It follows from Heller’s protection of semi-automatic handguns that semi-automatic rifles are also constitutionally protected and that D.C.’s ban on them is unconstitutional. (By contrast, fully automatic weapons, also known as machine guns, have traditionally been banned and may continue to be banned after Heller.) “D.C.’s registration requirement,” Kavanaugh added, “which is significantly more stringent than any other federal or state gun law in the United States, is likewise unconstitutional…” The angst from anti-gunners is countered by enthusiasm from Second Amendment groups. Chris Cox, executive director of the National Rifle Association’s Institute for Legislative Action, released a statement in which he hoped the Senate swiftly confirms Kavanaugh. “President Trump has made another outstanding choice in nominating Brett Kavanaugh for the U.S. Supreme Court,” Cox stated. “He has an impressive record that demonstrates his strong support for the Second Amendment. “Judge Kavanaugh has demonstrated his clear belief that the Constitution should be applied as the Framers intended,” Cox added. “To that end, he has supported the fundamental, individual right to self-defense embraced by Justice (Antonin) Scalia in the historic Heller decision. ” -

SC Justice Kennedy is RETIRING!
Rattler replied to Rattler's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
The Left isn't sleeping, they're plotting. They desire a fundamental change in America that would put big government in control of everything, at huge expense to all of it's productive taxpayers. One can only imagine where the US would be now if Hillarity had won the election. The Left's opposition to all of the above only proves they would have destroyed the country in short order. They're currently losing their minds because their dream of a New World Order, under one world government, with them at the helm, is no longer possible in the near future. However, they are not quitting. They will never stop trying. -
New Gun Control Law in Massachusetts
Rattler replied to ADK Native's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
It should be called "Responsible Gun Owner Control", because it won't prevent crimes or suicides. Someone wants to kill themself, so the state comes and takes their guns, then leaves them alone to figure out how to do the deed without a gun. Stupid. Someone with a grudge, or just a psychotic hatred of guns, flags you for no reason and you go through hell and all your money, trying to prove you are innocent. No penalty for the person who maliciously harassed you, which is a crime. Stupid. Ignoring the Constitution's protections by not using due process to disarm someone, and taking private property without compensation. Stupid. People who support such tyranny and oppression.......STUPID!! This one really needs to go before the SCOTUS, and soon. These idiotic anti-gun leftists need to be smacked hard for passing these laws in the first place. -
"While it is true that the Declaration was a statement of revolt by men of privilege against those with even more privilege, that is hardly the full story, and it elides why we still mark the occasion annually. The argument that the signers made to justify their revolution was an argument against all forms of governmental privilege. And in this way, the Declaration is more radical than the individual men who wrote it or signed it, for it let loose upon the world a new way of ordering society itself." —Jay Cost Happy 4th of July everyone.
