I hurt 3M & 3J. I have a big EMPTY freezer. Saw 2 deer opening day, and that was it. They give out nusiance permits too. Just for the asking. I feel they are trying to knock off all deer in the area, due to us city folk building houses up there, and commuting to the city every day.
I brought a distressed rabbit call. and I was trying it out last weekend. nothing worked. is it a series of bleets, or blahs you have to do to make it sound natural ?
Usually, if they run, or jump, or do anything, they've been hit. A clean miss, they would not flinch at all. Keep on munching acorns. assuming the shot is 100 yards or better.
After a clean miss, check your scope at that distance. I bet it's off.
I hunted over 2 piles of droppings, and deer tracks. Looked pretty fresh, maybe a few days old at most. Natually I saw NOTHING, except sh!t. At least I know they survived the season for next year.
I saw 2 does on the side of the thruway, munching on some grass, 8am this morning. within 10 feet of the highway. Like they knew they were safe there. around exit 15.
I hunt state land, and I thought I had 100 acres to myself. Then when morning with snow on the ground, I saw about 30 other foot prints. So I certainly wouldn't leave anything in the woods overnight.
The forecast keeps changing. an hour ago it was rain all day. now the rain is ending in the morning. So I'm still not sure if I'm driving 2 hours to sit in the rain. I'll check the forecast again later.
and to all your hard core guys. while I enjoy hunting, I do NOT enjoy sitting in the rain. I'd rather order some venison over the internet !!
Friday, freezing rain.
Sat & sun, warm and rainy.
Terrible way to end the SZ season. I'm not that hard core to sit in the rain.
and I was going to go up Friday morning, but it's a steep mountain, and the freezing rain forecast is not good.
2 years ago, opening day, driving up, 4 or 5 does ran out in front of me. I slam on the brakes, and the last one just caught the edge of the front bumper. Nothing happened, but she limped off, then bounced away. If I hit the gas, rather than the brake, I would have hit all 4.
see, that is exactly my experience. They get so used to gun fire after a week, it echos off the mountains, and it doesn't bother them at all. If gun fire bothered deer, after every shot, you would see deer running everywhere.
you shoot at 2 deer. you hit 1, that 1 will jump, and take off. the other one doesn't jump, it just follows the 1st one.
If you shoot over a deers head, they are not running, when they are used to gun shots all season long.
There is a notable difference with the reduced recoil ammo. makes the 7mm-08 feel like a .243. However, past 100 yards, it's off paper. way too low. and I can't get it to group well at 100 yards in my BAR. Maybe it's the gun. But I would not recommend the RRA.
I was going to bring my distressed rabbit call the next time out hunting. Now I'm thinking twice !!!
doing a google, those pictures are on some island, where the moose is the only source of food for the wolves.
