You can't play G-D with wild life. If it's cold and raining, do you give them shelter too ? It's not a farm animal.
-
Deer (and most wildlife) have been living without food supplements for 10 zillion years; and they will continue to live for another 10 zillion years without free handouts.

why not just bait with a salt block? (illegal as well)
-
How is the kick? Is it more than a 9mm pistol ? they make a reduced load in 7mm-08. I wonder how that would work ? Remington 140grain reduced recoil.

my wife cooks a mean chicken & veal cutlet. Fried with bread crumbs. What is the cut of venison I would need for her to do this ?

why isn't there a spring season? and should we start one?
the blur replied to G-Man's topic in Bear Hunting
They do AUG bear hunts up in Canada..... over bait. Mixed reviews on eating the meat. Some say make it all sauage. -
I would not get any where near a cub, that is just asking for death.

I'm still wondering what would happen if I shot one with my .243; or my 7mm-08 with reduced recoil ammo. Would they run the other way, or maul me to death ??? They can see orange rather well according to my research. There is a bear guide in Canada who says you can hunt them with a .243. I have to wonder....

I have seen bear tracks in the snow, and mud. They are BIG. So big in fact, it looks like another hunter was walking barefoot. SCARY !!! only 5 rounds in the rifle. The weekend after that I carried my side arm. They say bears have perfect color vision. They can clearly see orange.

That was jackie the jokeman from years ago. The joke continues: what do you call a deer with no eyes, and no d!ck ??

So travel up there with your band saw, and all your butchering tools, and everything else you need. And 2 guys packing out a moose may require many trips, many miles, while the moose is rotting out. Then go find ice in the remote wilderness, and make it all happen. Yes, you are obviously experienced and done this many times before.
-
you need an outfitter who is familiar with the area. They scout, they have butchers, they have ATV's, they drag it out, they have hotels, etc, etc. You really think your driving 20 hours up into a strange area, and finding a good location .... and doing that by yourself. Best of luck.

VT has a moose population, and getting one is rather difficult. $5000 in Canada is the way to go; if you want it bad enough.

I'm done with recoil too. Downsized all my rifles to smaller calibers. Gave the big stuff to my son, including the 12 ga. Let the young guys shred their shoulders. and I brought some managed recoil ammo just to play with. they say the .30-06 MR ammo is lighter to shoot than a .243 and I brought reduced recoil slugs.

I have various different motorola models. 2 watt - 5 watt. and they all have very limited range. They claim 5 miles. maybe from mountain top to mountain top, but any obstruction severly cuts down on range. fair reception on ski slope. poor reception in cruise ship.
-
You need a licensed guide, and you need a proper tag. Then a butcher, and a 20 hour drive home. And transporting rifles into Canada. About $5000 by the time your done. I know someone who did it.

You guys started in with the personal attacks, all because I voiced my opinion. And now you don't like it when it gets ugly. you only like 1 sided arguments, sorry.. that is not how life works.

you are a complete Hypocrite. Maybe you should go for head shots, this way when you miss, it's a complete miss. Or better yet, put your gun down, turn in your hunting license, and find another hobby.

I took a good shot opportunity, unfortunately its not a perfect world and I hit low. The deer survived. Im sure you have never made a bad shot right? You have hit every deer with every shot you have ever took at one? If you say yes, I say you are a flat out liar. We all know what you are anyway. Your deer didn't survive, it died a slow painfull unethical death, and was probably ravaged by coyotte's while it was still alive. Me, I never shot a deer. But we know what you are. Your a poor shot, who never recovered an animal. Then you type away how ethical you are. He was out walking in the field last week. You dont read very well, do you? Im done with you. Please, if you have never shot a deer, keep it that way, we dont need you in this sport. So your proud to say your injured deer is walking the field? You should NOT be in this sport. you should be at the range practicing, and practicing so YOU don't give hunters a bad name by injuring animals, and not harvesting them ethically.

The way you guys are crying above, y'all sound like PETA member's.

1/2 these "ethical" hunters complaing here probably go for head shots :-\ . Then they get up on their soap box talking about love and respect for the deer they just shot in the head, blew out 1/2 it's teeth, and the deer starves to death 3 weeks later. In the mean time they call deer search, then post "deer search" called them back 4 days later, when it was too late. All because they took a poor shot.

I've read conflicting reports on the meat. Some say it's good, Some says it's nasty and greasy. Talking to an outfitter in Canada, he turns a 200lb bear into all sausage. The rug would be nice, but 200 lbs of sausage, I wouldn't know what to do with it. and dragging it out would be miserable. havn't decided if I would shoot one yet.
