    Elk in 3H

You can't shoot Elk or Moose in NY, unless on a private canned hunt. You will lose you hunting license for a very long time. Hogs are listed as small game, open season, with a small game license.
  2. I'm looking to treat my new Danner boots, but I don't want to make them unbreathable with a thick coating. any good products out there that will waterproof and not suffocate my feet?
  3. I'm not a bow hunter, but I read bow hunters should not track a deer for 4-6 hours, to avoid pushing the deer deeper into the woods. So you take a risky shot, you may have to wait 20 hours before tracking....

    Bear Hunting

The national parks where I hunt have bear, but they don't allow taking bear. It states WHITE TAIL DEER ONLY. no bear.

    3M

I've seen some by RT 52, with about 10 cars there. not too bad for state land.

    DMP

3C NO I know some areas are blocked out from DMP's, are there no does there ??
  7. I quit my hunting lease in 4O cause of that. and I just got rejected in 3C !!

    First Rubs

Could you send me the GPS Coordinates of that rub please
  9. I brought a pair of DANNER hunting boots at the Middletown Gander Mtn. $199.00. I go home, go online to Gander Mtn and Danner. $189.00 !!!! Gander charges more in stores, than online !! and I can order direct from the manufacturer for even less !!!! So I took the boot back, and ordered them from DICKs.

    DMP

I'm willing to trade a 3M for another 3_ like a 3C would be nice...

    3C

anyone hunt 3C ? I'm looking for some new areas, and see some public land up there? any experience up there ?
  12. The areas with NO DMP's, is the population that low, that they are trying to rebound the does ?
  13. You would shoot it, and probably wound it with a gut shoot , and it would die a slow painful death. me personally, I'd rather see them running around than on my dinner table.
  14. I wouldn't shoot that. too special. and I wouldn't shoot a pie bald or albino either. I'd rather see them run free, and possibly increase the rarer population.
  15. Recently I've noticed if I see a deer on the side of a back country road, they are not to fearful of me and my truck. I usually stop, and look at them for a while. I toot the horn, talk to them ; and they don't go running off. they just stand there staring back at me. today I got within 15 feet of a doe, and she stood her ground. I was ready to get out of the truck and smack her on her head. last week I saw a doe with 2 fawns, she was a little more cautious. stayed about 50 feet from me, and watched me while the fawns were eating. but not really fearful. now, if it were the middle of hunting season, we know they would have BOLTED immediately
  16. I brought a venison sausage, and it was good. but isn't is illegal to sell venison in NYS ? I had the buffalo burger too.
  17. This is appearently staged, but still pretty impressive.
  18. Most of it is BS, because I saw a guy dragging out a spike in 3J, on public land. He said opps, "my bad". And he bragged about it when loading it on his truck. I have a theory (not proven), single deers are most likely bucks, so look real carefully before shooting. 2 or 3 in a group, I know my doe permit is coming out.
  19. I didn't know they hunt fawns. Figured they were too big....... http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2011/06/17/mt.deer.causes.power.outage.kpax?hpt=hp_t2
  20. I think the woodchuck is cute. They have a nice display of them at the bronx zoo.
  21. I disagree with that. If you shot it, you must do something constructive with it. eat em, or mount em, or have a good reason to shoot it. Coyotes, pigs, and rats are an exception to that rule. The video was very skillful. your skills are fine. I'd go target shooting paper, rather than wood chucks. (flame suit on)
  22. I tried it tonight with a back strap. came out pretty good, except the pieces that were really bloody. the blood was ozzing through the bread crumbs. The pieces of meat that were not bloody came out great. I know for next time that the blood embedded pieces can't be fried....
  23. but what if the deer drops a load from being shot? then it just falls over.
  24. Deer season is over, so I loose 95% interest in reading hunting forums. Other hobbies take precedence..................
