The finisher gets the whole animal, according to the hunters ed class. But when I recently took the bow class, they said the first leathal shot takes the animal.
I find hunting on state land has it's benefits, hunters KNOW other hunters are out there, so hopefully they'll be on the look out. but private land, hmmm, no one should be out there, so blast anything. brown, orange, yellow, don't matter.
I'm out of the woods long before dark, and won't walk in till I'm feeling comfortable.
I'm not tracking a deer into the dark, or gutting it, or dragging it out after dark.
Me personally, I won't bow hunt, cause I know I suck at it. and I'm not tracking a wounded deer 4 miles.
I will cross bow hunt when the time comes, but regular bow, I'm not qualified, and I know it.
.243 will do the distance, and nice and flat. And with the velocity, it leaves a nice exit wound. I have a 7mm-08, that I wish I went with .243.
The .30-06 sits in the safe.
Next season I will get a .243 semi. talk about light recoil for deer.
28-30 feet is actually pretty high, like a 3 story building.
When I took the bow hunting class, the guy talked about harnesses for 1 hour, and repeated harnesses 30 times after that. Then he proceeded to talk about heights, and why there is no good reason to go above 10-12 feet.
My last time out, my heart started pounding out of my chest. I couldn't believe it. I thought I would be cool calm, and collected. WRONG, I twitched, bambi heard me, and look directly at me. then bolted. Hopefully as the season gets on, I'll be more relaxed.
