I'm at least 7,690 days away from retirement so no its never to early to start counting!
-
First off Congratulations on the future retirement! Second holy crap that's a long commute. I have a 17 mile one way trip that takes 35 min. I don't think I could handle much more than that.

I completely forgot that you did this mount yourself and that you are only in your second year of taxidermy. I'm no expert when it comes to judging mounts but if you told me this was done by someone that was only in there second year of taxidermy I'd be shocked because the quality of it looks really good.

Kids can make winter suck a lot less. With the February break just happening we took them ice skating and sledding. Then this weekend we went up to camp Friday afternoon to Sunday morning. Pulled them behind the snowmobile on an old truck hood through the open field, played in the snow and sat around the fire inside playing cards.

Days like today I wish I worked from home. Cold, snowy and windy. That's the worse winter combination you can have.

I just had to click on it. It's like a train wreck you don't want to look but you just can't help yourself!

Imagine my shock as I read the Topic Title as generator questions. Holy cow was I as confused as the Fox Girl

Personally I went (3)12’s @6” on center so I didn’t have to worry when my friends son practiced his Karate in the stand. And yes the happened. The karate not the 6” on center. That was an epic text I got from him. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sounds like you need to build yourself a Taj Mahal! I know that where I'll be if I make it out.

I might just have to get into the muzzle loader game so I can take my daughters out over Xmas break!

The house I'm currently in came with a generac generator. It runs almost the entire house except the 2 bedrooms upstairs for some reason. It's been pretty maintenance free in the 6 years I have lived there. I have only changed the oil, replaced the battery and just this fall replaced the starter solenoid. I did it all myself so the cost was very minimum. Of course we hardly ever lose power and when we do it's only been for a short period of time like 1-2 hours max but I like the peace of mind knowing that if I'm not home I have nothing to worry about. The first house my wife and I purchased did not have a back up generator and I did not have a portable one either. We where young and had no kids so losing power was not a big deal. When the October snow storm hit and we lost power for a few days I kept the food good by putting it in coolers packed with snow, stayed warm during the day by staying by the wood burning fireplace and cooked dinner with flashlights. It was something to remember.

I have just the larger of the 2 Gerber knives. I think last year was my second year using it so its maybe used on 4 deer. I must say its sharp and makes quick work of field dressing. I did have the blade crack sometime in between putting it away from the year and taking it back out to pack it up for the new season. Strangest thing ever as it was just sitting on the shelf in a gun safe. Gerber replaced it no questions asked but it did cost me $7 to send it back and I ended up not having it for the entire season.

I’d turn that 2k into 2 guns. A left handed 270 bolt gun with nice glass for my daughter for when she gets old enough to hunt deer in a couple of years. Then for myself a hunting revolver with scope. Maybe a Ruger Redhawk as they seem to be popular here amongst the members. I’d have to do some research to get more specific details. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I remember reading about it in the news earlier this year. This is the first time I have seen the Field and Stream article on it. Well written and the guy seems to be pretty down to earth just your regular joe hunter not out for trophies but got lucky.

I never tried the bullet style ones and never had much success with the ones that slide into the end of the barrel either. Friend of mine has the arbor and reticle style and I have always had the best luck with it. What he does for a new scope is zero's it in to the center of the reticle to get on paper then shoots to zero in the scope at 100 yards. Once he has it zeroed in with ammo he puts the arbor back on it and takes notes of where the cross hairs are now on the arbor and reticle. This way if the scope get bumped he can get zeroed in even faster. Hopefully my rambling makes sense.

DD's Ranch in Alden just got a shipment of various ammo 9mm, .380 auto, 22LR, 45 etc. 9mm was $38.50 for 50 rounds. I picked up 2 boxes this time instead of not picking up 2 boxes. Supply probably wont last long as there is no limit and a line out the door.
