Could be someone did it, but I have all kinds of goofy things happen to our hoist ropes from the wind. Every year when we check our stands, we find them wrapped up, looped on things, etc. We dont generally just let ropes dangle, we will clip them to rungs on ladders or something else, just so the wind doesnt get them all tangled up during the season.

2015 Shed Hunting Thread - Post your finds!
WNYBuckHunter replied to burmjohn's topic in General Hunting
If youd like advice on shed hunting, I suggest you start a thread for it, instead of hijacking this one. -
I moved it. I did so because it headed in an almost immediate political direction, and I felt thats where it belongs. Sorry if you dont like it, but the political forum is only a "wasteland" because certain people have made it that way.

My son has been begging for a couple of years. Ill have him out this year. Started both of my kids at 4, but I dont do much small game hunting, so I waited until they were old enough to keep quiet in the ground blind for a bit. You should be fine at leat for a bit with your son. Ear protection is a must.

Single ladders are easy to move alone, provided they arent really top heavy.
-
Its all about the weight. I prefer stands that have foot rests that go all the way to the tree, and a flip up seat so I can stand up against the tree. If you are just looking to sit down, then you dont need to worry about that. The other reason I like the foot platform to go all the way back, is the rock solid feel of the stand attached at multiple points.

Its not about having the extra room yet. Its about ease of moving it. Believe me, 2 man stands are a pain in the backside to put up and take down because of the amount of weight at the top. I wouldnt even get one of the stands with all the bells and whistles at this point, just a basic one man ladder with a foot platform that goes all the way to the tree. Like these http://www.sportsmansguide.com/product/index/big-dog-16-blue-tick-ladder-tree-stand-bdl-300?a=1837163 http://www.sportsmansguide.com/product/index/guide-gear-16-archers-ladder-tree-stand?a=1333064 You can use a prusik with a ladder stand if you like. I dont though, I just attach when I get up there.

Careful, he might call you racist for such a statement.

I must have missed that when I typed in huntingny.com to get here.

I just spit coffee on my desk.

All of my spots are in the Doe only zone. I can wait another couple of weeks, no biggie.
-
Not if it was shot where I heard it was. 8H and 8N are in the doe only zone. 8J is not, and part of Livonia is in 8J. Where I heard was near the North end of town, kind of near the South Lima area.
-
Its been pinned since it was created lol.
-
I actually heard of someone that dropped a nice 9 in Livonia yesterday. Yep, thats 8H. I dont know the person, or if its true, but I dont doubt it.
-
You didnt? What about this? Now, if you had said that it wasnt worth the risk to you, then I wouldnt have pointed it out. Saying it isnt worth the risk is the same as saying its wrong. Of course not everyone shoots the same setup as in the article. Feeling comfortable taking the shot and regularly practicing it would mean that the person is more than likely shooting a setup capable of making it.

I havent seen one single post promoting shooting at 100 yards in the woods. Please, if I missed it, point it out.

Ill let you know what my opening day goofs are on October 15th.

In the old version, to get any info on the stand you were looking at, besides the scent cone, you had to go t the edit function. That was horrible. I use the notes section for each one to keep track of when we hung the stand, changed straps, etc. This version, its all right there. I didnt like it at first until I played around and figured it out. Once you get used to it, its a ton better.
