I agree 100%. The argument that people use to try to compare NY to those mid western states is delusional, and the worst thing for the sport. Those people generally watch too much TV and buy into too much of the commercialized propaganda. They are the guys that push the big money leases, ARs, etc etc etc. NY is NOT and NEVER will be like Iowa, Illinois and the like. There are too many factors that people can never realistically change here that prevent it.

I dont keep mine in the fridge, it does fine on the shelf.

Ive done research, I see both sides, and I understand why you have the opinion that you do. Youve bought into the industry, why wouldnt you have the view that the business you are in is the end all be all? I also see organizations that are taking stances against parts of the high fence industry growing at a pretty rapid pace. Do I think that deer farms and high fence shooting will go away? No. But I dont think its going to become the norm either.
-
Why? They are instinctual animals, not logical thinkers.
-
Sorry FSW, I dont agree with it. You can put all of the industry rhetoric you want out there, but I dont buy it. I do not personally know anyone that does high fence hunts, but I do know many that would quit hunting before they laid out thousands of dollars to hunt behind a fence. I also know many non hunters that think shooting animals behind a fence is disgusting, and they dont care what size the fenced area is.

Ive seen trail cam pics of deer eating from and nosing through gut piles. They dont know what the pile is from. Also, think about it, you are leaving all kinds of scent from that deer in that spot, including the urine from the bladder. Maybe the other deer are almost treating it similar to a scrape.

I dont agree with the deer farm high fence theory. You may see some guys do it, but it will not become the norm. I think you will see the general public lash back at it once it gets to a certain point. It will always be a niche market. What I do agree with is the leasing issue. Finding good land to hunt is not easy, and keeping it is even harder. I spend alot of time maintaining the relationships with the landowner, farm manager, hunting buddies, etc in order to have access to the land that I hunt. Im not saying thats a bad thing, because I really enjoy spending time with them, but the days of gaining simple permission without the outlay of cash, time, etc are long gone. For me, its ok, but not everyone can afford the time or money to have access to land for an activity they participate in a few weekends a year.

NY DEC: Wild Boars No Longer "Fair Game"
WNYBuckHunter replied to burmjohn's topic in NYS DEC News and Annoucements
Just FYI, they dont use full autos for hunting pigs in texas, and night vision equipment is already legal to use in NY. -
As others have said, I would have taken the shot when it was broadside, but the shot he took was fine. Its tough to tell what he saw when the deer was broadside, it kind of looked like there were a bunch of branches in the way.
-
What would he need to watch the video for to comment on beaded barrels?
-
Wrong. The guy in the first video chose his shots carefully, even though they were quick. The other guys were just slinging lead. Whole different thing. I dont think anyone with any common sense would regard these videos as the same thing, except they are both deer hunting.
-
How am i playing devils advocate? A head on shot with a gun is a totally different thing than an intentional gut shot.

$200? No. Id rather buy a couple new stands. Beer and steaks, lets do it.

WNYBuckHunter replied to noodle one's topic in General Chit Chat
I used to frequent a deer camp in Belfast every year. I saw alot of scary things in the Still Water Inn and the Legion. A couple of them followed me back to camp. We also used to play this game called Swamp Cow....use your imaginations.... -

Whats the barrel twist on it? I have the SPS-V with the 26" barrel. It loves 55 grain V-max or Remington soft points. -

Shawn, Im not the only moderator here thats had enough of your nonsense. You were told that what goes on between the mods and members is between them, and its none of your business. What goes on behind the scenes, is also none of your business. All of this happened in a PM because it doesnt belong out in the forums, but youve got to make a spectacle of yourself, because everyone is out to get you, right? Im not unfair in warning people, and quite frankly, you have been let off with more warnings than anyone else on this forum ever has. And the warnings havent come just from me. But you still keep pushing things. This forum has been a success since before you showed up, and it will be a success after you are gone. You want to dictate a forum, then go start one. Nobody forces you to be here.
