I got mine before season last year at Dicks Sporting Goods. They were on sale, plus I had a coupon. I only spent 40 or 50 bucks on it. When they go on sale again Im going to grab another one or maybe two.

By the way, a part of this original post that got lost along the way is about the sale of Hemlock and Canadice Lakes to the state. For those not familiar with this area, this is a pretty big deal over here in the western finger lakes because both of these lakes are the only ones of the finger lakes that are not commercialized and ringed with cottages and basically sealed of from the public. They were formerly owned by the city of Rochester and have been (and still will be) used as a water reservoir. It's been a long fight, but these two lakes have been saved from development and will continue to provide excellent hunting and fishing opportunities. That was a pretty amazing and noteable achievement for a time when the state is pretty much in a financially busted situation. Doc I might actually try hunting down there this year. Its great country.

Exactly! It's not a system that you will find me defending. Gottcha. I actually have no problem with pistol permits, I just think they should be nationally recognized just like a drivers license, but thats a whole different thread lol.
-
Its a CYA move by the state to require a license of any kind to kill feral pigs. A stupid one at that. Those things are bad news and should be shot on sight by anyone that sees them.

Im pretty sure, from what Ive heard, that there is nothing they can really do to stop it once it hits an area. They are just trying to slow the spread of it and track it.

send letters for crossbows in NY
WNYBuckHunter replied to sits in trees's topic in NYS DEC News and Annoucements
We (not you and I, but people on this forum in this and a couple other threads) have already discussed many times over why a crossbow is not a gun, besides its completely obvious. All of the major archery sanctioning bodies consider the crossbow as a form of archery equipment. It shoots an arrow and broadhead powered by a string, what else needs to be said? You are just letting your emotions get the best of you. Its ok, it happens to alot of people. -
Yes, I believe that I said all that in the last paragraph of my reply. You did? Your whole reply sounded like you were blaming the govt for releasing the list on the internet or sponsoring the website or something similar. Maybe I was misunderstanding what you said.
-
So you dont think the Govt should have a list of people with pistol permits? How would they keep things straight if they didnt? What would be the point of having the permits at all?

send letters for crossbows in NY
WNYBuckHunter replied to sits in trees's topic in NYS DEC News and Annoucements
Oh I know, I was just wondering with him. Those that think legalizing crossbows in archery season (where they belong, with archery equipment) would be anyone imposing anything on them is a perfect example of letting emotions blind yourself of the facts. In reality, that person is imposing their emotionally charged opinion on others that would like to have the choice to use a little easier archery equipment. Its ok, crossbows will end up in archery season soon enough. -

Yeah, its about 5 mins from my house. We like to go to the flea market over there once in a while too, havent gone this year yet though, been too busy. The date always falls on the same weekend as the Naples Grape Festival if I remember correctly. This year Im pretty sure the dates will be Sept 25th and 26th. -

send letters for crossbows in NY
WNYBuckHunter replied to sits in trees's topic in NYS DEC News and Annoucements
So say NY says crossbows are fine in bow season and someone leases the land from you, youre going to tell them that they cant use a legal hunting implement on the land? BTW, if you read the bill, which it sounds like you didnt, it is only allowing crossbows into any season that a muzzle loader is allowed in (regular gun and late ML). : -

I go every year, it sucked last year. Noticeably less vendors, I think we were out of there in less than 2 hours. -
I like my string loop, its simple and I have no issues with it.
-
Ok Doc, first off, if you look deeper into it, the government did not post this, its not on a government website, its a private site. The conspiracy theory angle doesnt hold up. Most likely it was posted by someone that requested the info by way of the freedom of information act.

I clean my guns after each time they are fired. My hunting guns get wiped down after each hunt. I also break them all out 2 other times per year and give them a good going over. When I clean my guns I spend as much time on each as it takes to break each one down completely.

I have heard they are great, though Ive never used one.

What to plant on a large trail?
WNYBuckHunter replied to burmjohn's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Yep, The first year I planted my honeyhole plot it was with Secret Spot and I used absolutely no lime or fertilizer and it grew like crazy. Its cheap too, a $15 bag will do about 1/8 of an acre. all you have to do is rake it in -
My honeyhole plot 2010 edition...
WNYBuckHunter replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
No biggie. ;D My plot is in, it was pretty muddy but not too bad. When I got there today, most of the apples that had fallen were gone and there were tracks everywhere. Also some of the peas and beans from last year were sprouting up again, so there might be a few of those in there with the rest. Im going to stop over tomorrow and put the trail cam up. -

Secret Spot would work great as well, gives you a good mix of rape, oats, ryes, clover and chickory -
My honeyhole plot 2010 edition...
WNYBuckHunter replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Back to my honeyhole plot....LOL I picked up seed today, I am going with a mix of Whitetail Institute Secret Spot and Evolved Harvest Shot Plot rape and turnips. I may have a tough time re-tilling tomorrow though with the soaking rains we have had for the last week, but there is plenty of moisture in the ground to get the seed germinating. Once the seed goes in tomorrow, Ill put the trail cam up. I went over today and scoped it out, bunch of apples falling already because of the dry spell we had. That will probably slow down till they are ripe now though.
